I’m glad I’m not the only one mesmerized , he makes it look so easy and love the sewing angles! I’ve watched tons of sewing videos and I taught myself watching videos and these are great
A little tip to make the tops of your zips look better. When you make the zip locks, cut the zip about 1/4" above them. Use a pair of needle nosed pliers or something pointy to remove the zipper teeth above the stops. When you sew, turn this extra bit of tape under before you get to the end so that it gets caught between the zip and the fabric. This will neaten it up and it won't unravel. I've been sewing 40 years but I still like to get new ideas. Great job.
I'm an experienced seamstress, but I still learn great tips from your videos. Thank you for being a thorough and explanatory teacher. My last comment is that you have an amazing tone to your voice. As a Primary Children's singing time leader, I would love to hear you sing.

I love how you make "how to" videos that are extremely detailed and are over and hour long, I hate seeing these "how to " videos for beginners but they are speed sewing and only eight minutes. Splendid work, Tock! At the age of 79 I am returning to sewing. My mother sewed and my great aunt was a professional seamstress in the Toronto garment district. I learned to sew as a given for what women could do -- a nice case of gender profiling! I put myself through college by working full time in theatrical costume and design along with other production and stage work. Then, my work was "noticed" and I spent a season at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival (Ontario) as a design assistant. I left theatre for publishing but until our four children hit their teens I still sewed (and made and taught ceramics). Then, I had other problems to solve. With six grandkids next door and the pandemic turning the economy upside down I am determined to make a practical contribution to the situation, starting with masks, repairs and refits instead of new purchases, etc. It's amazing how much you can forget in thirty years. :-( Thank you for bringing it all back and for updating my memory files. I bought a great old Kenmore sewing machine and a Euro Pro serger I haven't tried yet. You have solved the threading mysteries so I'm off and running. Grateful thanks!

@@TockCustom Hey, Tock! I've spent significant time trying to follow your perfectly good directions for threading a serger. Perhaps I should be posting this comment on that thread? I certainly have memorized your video! A bit more light and a white thread might have made it easier to follow. But I was going to have figure out my own machine regardless. Your description of the groove the thread must move through is a big improvement over the printed directions on the machine. I finally had to MacGyver a tool to push that bottom, front thread far enough to the left to catch in the "left-to-right" groove of the needle. The hook Is almost impossible to see, even standing on my head, so to speak. After failing with various sizes of crochet hooks, my tool was a slightly rough-ended, one-inch length of a round toothpick stuck into the open end of a short ballpoint pen refill cartridge. By holding the thread in my left hand to vary the tension on it, the rough end of the toothpick could hold the thread while I maneuvered the strand around the hidden hook with my magic tool in my right hand. What sadistic engineer designed this thing???? If the pressure foot plate could be removed easily, the threading would be a cinch. But I tried that and failed again. I would have needed a right-angled screwdriver to remove the back screw. Just to let you know that your laid-back style helped me to keep my sanity through the sweltering heat while I promised myself through gritted teeth, "You. Can. Do. This." And on the third day, I ran a lovely chain. It's working fine. Huge thanks!
Great tutorial with the detailed but clear and concise instruction. Terrific camera work. Easy to see what you are demonstrating at the machine. Like that you have the picture in picture with your work area and also being able to see you. Makes the video very personal.

any tutorial worth making is worth making right. Don't cut short a good tutorial just because it takes time. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. I watched the first one in its entirety. I might even watch this one to see if I can spot the changes. I've only been sewing less then two years and recently completed a hoodie of my own (before your tutorial). You almost make me want to do another hoodie and see how much I can improve on the one I already did. cheers

as someone who's been sewing since I was a kid but never actually had a sewing machine that worked for more than five minutes, these videos are so satisfying to watch
I wanted/needed to sew some hoodies for winter. (In Minnesota, they're a necessary layer!) Your video got me to order the exact Burda pattern online. It came from Germany, and the instructions page has 7 different languages, none of 'em English. Lol! So YOUR instructions saved the project. Thanks!

I love your tutorials. I suggestion , after you insert the zipper, change presser foot back to previous foot. When the get to the bulk at the waistband, press in the black button on the presser foot to allow the foot to raise a little and prevent stitch jumping

I used this as a replacement tutorial for the really bad included directions for a hoodie I was making. My hoodie came out flawlessly and I am extremely happy with my result. Definitely one of my favourite pieces of clothes now

Where’ve you been all my life, this is awesome thank you! If you have to shorten a zip, you can leave a bit extra length at the top and fold it behind on an angle then stitch into place, you won’t have the zip stopper stitches showing then 😊

It gets cold where I live so I always enjoy seeing anything with a hood. Been constantly interrupted making my second hooded outerwear. However, my new Brother st150hdh will be delivered tomorrow so the incentive to finally finish this one is huge. Especially after a short walk today wearing a store bought hoodie was too tight in the sleeves and had pockets too small. I make up my patterns as I go, but I finally started buying patterns. I think I may have a hoodie pattern in my stash. Thanks for making a sewing tutorial of the proper length to enjoy. And I love all the top stitching. I love topstitching everything because I guess that's my style. It takes a bit longer but trying to do without makes my stuff look incomplete to me.

Your videos are great! I have been thinking about getting into sewing as a hobby now that I am retired. Glad to see other men getting involved. Not sure yet what discipline I prefer. I've been watching videos on quilting and embroidery so far, but you are the first person I've run across that does actual garments using some of the other work too. Keep up the good work. Thanks a ton Kevin, there are a lot of avenues to take with needlework - all of which are very rewarding. I really enjoy the application of making custom men's wear and messenger bags, but there's really no limit to what you can create with just one or two machines 😊
Well I finally found one needlework type that is never going to fit me. I just won’t live long enough to learn it and finish a piece. I’m talking about Brandenburg lace. Beautiful stuff, but my Lord is that stuff intricate! My Mom used to do Tatting and fine Crochet for Church Alters. Even watched her do candle wick and Irish lace, but the lady on the video I watched lost me before she even finished the ribbons they use to make their designs. She had the nerve to finish off a six month piece of work with ONE ARTIFICIAL PEARL at the neckline of a full collar and breast flap. If I did all that work, that would have had a very large and very real pearl at the least. I barely made it through the jeans you made!
I really enjoyed your tutorial, It helped me immensely, I was able to make my first jacket for my little granddaughter, I am new to sewing something I took up when COVID first arrived, and I am enjoying every spare minute 😊
Funny...I bought a video from a tutorial on sewing with knits and making a hoodie...while I learned a lot from her it was so boring I’ve never finished it..I don’t want a history lesson or a book of stitches...I just want to sew! Great video and tutorial, awesome to see you break down all of the steps. I noticed that you didn't serge the cuffs like you did the other seams, so I was wondering if that's something that can be done and if it might impact the stretch for that area.

These steps should apply to pretty much any similar zip-up hoodie pattern. Hopefully you're able to find the one I recommended. Hope you end up making some great hoodies soon :D

I sew bags and quilts and keep on looking at sewing some of my own outer wear... Im a big guy who bike all year around even as cold as -40 and its hard to find good fitting gear.. I think I will start with this but leave out the zipper and add the material back in to make a solid front with pockets great video....
Oh If you bought this pattern, one of the styles has a pull-over style hoodie - with pockets. So you wouldn't need a zipper at all. I'm from up north too! Ride on buddy!

any tutorial worth making is worth making right. Don't cut short a good tutorial just because it takes time. If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

I've only been sewing less then two years and recently completed a hoodie of my own (before your tutorial). You almost make me want to do another hoodie and see how much I can improve on the one I already did.

I love your tutorials. I suggestion , after you insert the zipper, change presser foot back to previous foot. When the get to the bulk at the waistband, press in the black button on the presser foot to allow the foot to raise a little and prevent stitch jumping

I used this as a replacement tutorial for the really bad included directions for a hoodie I was making. My hoodie came out flawlessly and I am extremely happy with my result. Definitely one of my favourite pieces of clothes now

Where’ve you been all my life, this is awesome thank you! If you have to shorten a zip, you can leave a bit extra length at the top and fold it behind on an angle then stitch into place, you won’t have the zip stopper stitches showing then 😊

She could sew (with or without patterns), take off, put on and/or replace anything when it came to sewing. I am not that way. I'm just starting out and so far, trying to not sew my fingers together. It gets cold where I live so I always enjoy seeing anything with a hood.
Been constantly interrupted making my second hooded outerwear. However, my new Brother st150hdh will be delivered tomorrow so the incentive to finally finish this one is huge. Especially after a short walk today wearing a store bought hoodie was too tight in the sleeves and had pockets too small.
I make up my patterns as I go, but I finally started buying patterns. I think I may have a hoodie pattern in my stash.
Thanks for making a sewing tutorial of the proper length to enjoy. And I love all the top stitching. I love topstitching everything because I guess that's my style. It takes a bit longer but trying to do without makes my stuff look incomplete to me.

Your videos are great! I have been thinking about getting into sewing as a hobby now that I am retired. Glad to see other men getting involved. Not sure yet what discipline I prefer. I've been watching videos on quilting and embroidery so far, but you are the first person I've run across that does actual garments using some of the other work too. Keep up the good work. Your stuff looks great and shows real imagination.
Thanks a ton Kevin, there are a lot of avenues to take with needlework - all of which are very rewarding. I really enjoy the application of making custom men's wear and messenger bags, but there's really no limit to what you can create with just one or two machines 😊
Well I finally found one needlework type that is never going to fit me. I just won’t live long enough to learn it and finish a piece. I’m talking about Brandenburg lace. Beautiful stuff, but my Lord is that stuff intricate! My Mom used to do Tatting and fine Crochet for Church Alters. Even watched her do candle wick and Irish lace, but the lady on the video I watched lost me before she even finished the ribbons they use to make their designs. She had the nerve to finish off a six month piece of work with ONE ARTIFICIAL PEARL at the neckline of a full collar and breast flap. If I did all that work, that would have had a very large and very real pearl at the least. I barely made it through the jeans you made!

Great video and tutorial, awesome to see you break down all of the steps. I noticed that you didn't serge the cuffs like you did the other seams, so I was wondering if that's something that can be done and if it might impact the stretch for that area.

These steps should apply to pretty much any similar zip-up hoodie pattern. Hopefully you're able to find the one I recommended. Hope you end up making some great hoodies soon :D

I sew bags and quilts and keep on looking at sewing some of my own outer wear... Im a big guy who bike all year around even as cold as -40 and its hard to find good fitting gear.. I think I will start with this but leave out the zipper and add the material back in to make a solid front with pockets great video....
Oh If you bought this pattern, one of the styles has a pull-over style hoodie - with pockets. So you wouldn't need a zipper at all.

I make totes, masks, pj bottoms thats pretty much it for now. but working on bigger things hopefully by Xmas
