- In this tutorial, our friend Maggie from Paisley and Glue teaches us (and me) the basics of smocking and fabric manipulation. This is a fantastic technique for adding a ton of depth and detail to your projects, and make something truly unique.
Since we filmed this, she has released her own book called 'Smocking Secrets' along with several smocking patterns included. You can find it here: amzn.to/3pLgONE
I plan to shoot a whole new video about her book soon to help celebrate her first published book!

Thank you so much for watching!
I can honestly say that I’ve never seen anyone do this before! Always good to have another tool in our sewing arsenal. So glad you’re back, we’ve missed you!
Yeah this is a great new technique! Very happy to be back making videos again
this is one very time consuming method. but you can do very nice things with it
@@TockCustomWhere did you go? If you were sick, I'm very sorry and I'm glad that you're better and back. It's just good to watch you.
It's always a pleasure to have a new Tock Custom video show up. I never miss one.
Much appreciated my friend! Looking forward to bringing lots of new techniques and artists on the channel :)
You're back thank goodness, I've been worried about you. I'm just a caring person.
Yep! Very happy to be back making new videos again this month! Lots to look forward to. I appreciate that folks like you care about me
@@TockCustom let me explain, I had to take care of my little sister's kids and it seems I've become everyone's aunt and since you had been a success story yourself and the pandemic hit I was worried about you know, but I was corrected and that my concerns were over stated, but with the crazy media hype who really knows.
Yup! Some of us watched all the way to the end. :) Great technique !! I have watched many of your tutorials. Sewing was my 'Pandemic skill'. I'm still a beginner , but continuing to learn almost exclusively through through RUclips tutorials. I have learned the most from you. So THANK YOU and welcome back!
Thanks for watching ALL of this lol, hopefully you're made some cool stuff since the pandemic. This is a wild technique I hope to include on some upcoming projects. Cheers!
What an awesome technique! Wondering how this would look on a bag 🤔 Thanks for posting!
Welcome back 🎉 I love learning from your videos even though my sewing machine hates me 🤦♀️😂🤣
It hasn't been used so much in years? That's funny.
You can get the elastic thread Saraflex from From Germany and wind in on the bobbin on slowly or you warp it. And you can use it with your sewing machine.
Oh my goodness! That is just beautiful. Just watched this and did a practice run on some scrap fabric and now I want to do this to a baby dress for my newest granddaughter. Wish me luck.
Glad to see you posting again, i was worried...
No reason to worry! But yes it is nice to be back making videos again :) Thanks for being patient!
Really threw you into the deep end finishing up all the lines on the arrow pattern and then making you stitch it while she finished hers in 2% of the time I love it 😂
Thank you so much for this vid. I was lucky and found Maggie's book at my library. I just finished my second piece of the braid pattern. I did it out of just a regular weight polyester material and then pressed it flat. My teen loves it and it will be turned into a simple corset for her soon . The first piece I did was out of a pleather material. Turned out amazing , but I will not be doing that thick of material again without having some type of punch tool. I'm tempted to frame the piece and then title it "insanity". Once again thank you, I really look forward to finding ways to incorporate this type of smocking into more projects.
Yay, you’re back. Absolutely love your tutorials. As a returning sewing you have helped me so much. For someone who looks like he could be in a rock band, your amazing. Thank you for your return and inspiration. Your uk fan 🥰
You are always up to the coolest stuff. These are my instant-click videos in my sub feed on RUclips. Big love to Maggie as well. ♥🤘
Aww thx! Hope to keep some fresh videos coming all year :) Maggie is the best!
Thank you for posting this now. There is plenty of time to work on a new project for Halloween!
I’ve done the one on the left. It’s very pretty. The grid for the one on the right looks like a herring bone design.
Yeah these were super cool, I'm looking forward to doing more since her book came out :)
I saw this and thought, smocking? That doesn't sound interesting. But Maggie and her smile was so beautiful I figured, what the heck, lets see what this is all about. THIS was cool. I have no idea how I would ever use this, but hey, knowledge is power. lol
Never even knew this was a thing. Excellent demo!
Thanks! All credit to Maggie for this one, super cool technique :)
IT WAS AMAZING TO MEET YOU AT C2E2! Always love your videos and how much they help me.
Yeah! It's always so fun and surprising to meet folks from RUclips at cons! Hope you're excited to make some new stuff soon. Hope to run into you again :)
This was so cool! I really enjoyed watching and trying this out! Managed to turn the sample into a 'dragons egg' bag for my daughter 😆
I tried to put a picture of it on here to shoe because I was kind of proud of it buuuut I don't think it worked.. hope I didn't mess anything up in my attempt 😅
So cool. Happy you’re back! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks a ton man! Appreciate you watching :)

So good to see you tock!!
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
I wonder how well this could work with quilting applications. I'm gonna have to share it with my mother and see what she thinks.
I was actually thinking about this while I was editing. Would be awesome to make quilt blocks with smocked squares :)
Omg, you are back 😀😀😀💕💕💕

It just takes a decent amount of time. Perfect project for binge watching a bunch of shows or something relaxing :)
I'm about to become the cool mom by trying this and then making a dice bag for my little D&D fiend.
So can flocking be done on 100% cotton?
