  • Half a million of us Brits change our bed linen just three times a year. Yet there is a group of Britons who wage a constant war on dirt and order. This brand new series follows Brits who - by their own admission - are so obsessed with cleaning they can't relax if there is a spot on a tap or a rain mark on the windows.
Meet 52-year-old germaphobe Michele Murray from Borehamwood, a single mum who cleans up to eight hours every day. Michele has a particular obsession with cleaning windows. She will clean her windows twice a day minimum and even more times if it rains...

There's a slight difference between being a clean freak and ocd. It's more complusion for the OCDers(also how they were raised to view what is clean and habits of cleaning) and germs for the clean freaks. Like for me I'm a weird combo of sometimes being a neat freak and not and when I am, gloves never touch my face, every area is spotless and everything is straightened up when the cleaning mood hits

Cleaning is an acquired taste. Having a satisfactory appreciation for a nice environment for him will probably help. Then he can make a start on decor. (The yellow bathroom must go. That can't be pleasing to him, no matter how clean. He should probably just do it white, as a wild guess.) His childhood cat, and his current cat, are purrrfectly beautiful. He needs another. A Bombay/black. if he gets atop his cleanin' he could have another. And Christopher -- that gray/peach alternating tile pattern; that is hideous. The tile needs re-doing. I think this was why he tried to cover it up. I think the feng-shui calculator would never sum indicators up to THAT. Gray, only, maybe. IDK. But definitely not gray-and-salmon. I don't think coral pink should ever be used for decor.

You can’t be a professional cleaner if your going to judge your clients, you won’t be asked back, they have a mental illness. They don’t want a scolding. Rule number two; go in, do the job, don't speak your opinions till you are away from the client, and it stays private, we do not judge our clients else they won't recommend us. Final rule; DO NOT MIX PRODUCTS UP, ITS HAZARDOUS.
We also have a laugh, it's how we get through difficult jobs that nobody else will do. We just don't behave the way these people do, so please don't think all pros judge and procrastinate. Nobody is perfect, and we are pleased to help and always enjoy the finished product and the happiness that we bring to our clients, who, by the way, find it difficult and shameful to admit a lot of the time......

I have OCD and it’s important that people realise that OCD doesn’t only cover obsessive cleaning. It can cover pretty much anything. I knew someone who had an OCD compulsion regarding her coathangers and how they had to be hung up in a specific way that only made sense to her. My OCD revolves around tapping things (considered ritualistic behaviour) and the negative reprocussions that pop into my head regarding it (magical thinking).
Please, if you’re just a clean person and enjoy tidiness, do not say “omg I’m soooo OCD!”. OCD is not a word that should be used as a descriptive word just to reference cleanliness. OCD ruined my childhood to a large extent, a cloud of guilt followed me around no despite that fact that I wasn’t an evil person.

I have OCD. I inherited it from my mother. My husbands mother never clean unless company was coming over so he's very messy and I follow him around like a puppy cleaning up after him. I bitch at him constantly. I don't clean 7 or 8hrs a day but I clean everyday and vacuum and dust 2 to 3 times a week. I am a organize freak. All my closets and drawers are Immaculate. Things on living room tables and dresser and night stands and shelves have to be sitting a certain way or I just go crazy. I go to friends house and find myself rearranging their things on their shelves and tables...lol they love me and just let me get on with it. My clothes are arranged in my closet by what they are. All like items are together. It drives my kids and husband crazy. My kids are married but one and all live on their own. My youngest is like me I'm afraid. My oldest son and his wife have 3 cats and the cat hair in their house drives me around the bend. I guess being a hoarder is to far one way and OCD is far the other way, but a choice of the two I will take OCD Everytime. I also tend to face things on the shelves in the grocery store...lol😉 my food pantry is all organized by boxed items, can goods and bags items and then I break it down even further by what the item is within boxed, can, and bag items. Lol I can't help it. I just go insane if it's not perfection. I said to my brother just the other day, I guess I'm to much like mom and he said, no u are mom! Lol

interestingly hoarding is considered a compulsive disorder as well, so being ‘messy’ (to put it nicely) is just as OCD as being clean is. people just don’t realise it because of the heavy connotation toward only cleanliness being OCD.

That was one extremely satisfying episode. I don't have OCD, I'm not a germophobe, but I do insist on keeping my apartment clean and shining. Living alone (with a cat) makes that an easy thing to do, particularly with routines in place, but it doesn't take me hours to accomplish. I do feel that the young man with depression is going to find himself feeling much better if he keeps things clean and tidy. As someone who's had depression all her life, one thing I've noticed is that fewer things feel worse than the total lack of control that depression causes. Keeping your environment in good shape is one way to take control back.

If I tried that with the dog i used to have (RIP Foxy) I would have either had a dog so traumatized she would need therapy or meds, or I would have came close to getting bit....That is not a normal way to treat an animal. If you feel that strong a need to do that either set aside daily time to brush your dog (they will love the attention once they get used to it, and its a great bonding activity). Or if you cant do that, just dont have a pet. Animals dont need to live by humans standards.

When Richard cleaned his son's room perhaps the son would rather have the figurines on his desk not where Richard put them. Like I want to help, but they literally get angry if it's not up to their standards. My parent has literally insulted me to my face for forgetting to buy trash bags at the grocery store. At a certain point you just give up on helping them and you get tired of the constant criticism.
I think the kids will be fine in the end, like I was a slob for bit in college but eventually I got tired of it and cleaned up, but thankfully I'm not obsessive about it. like sometimes your parents will be your example of how NOT to live and thats fine, you can still love eachother and have a good relationship.
I feel bad about the trophy thing too :( My parent doesn't mind that stuff but they tries to tell me how to dress still lol. I can’t help but think this “OCD Cleaner vs Hoarder” combo isn’t working.
You take someone who doesn’t clean, and pair them with someone who spends on average 56 HOURS A WEEK cleaning AND uses chemical combos that aren’t recommended by the companies/brands themselves and frankly do rituals that just aren’t necessary (I.e. hoovering twice a day).
What lesson is that teaching the hoarder? Apart from showing them that cleaning is even more the opposite of what they want to do. They aren’t learning the basic importance, just the absolute extreme of cleaning.
And watching the OCD cleaners in this episode raised questions even for me and made me want to stop myself. And I wouldn’t say I’m dirty...

i don’t think it’s so much of the a lesson but a sence of helping someone have a cleaner space.. it teaches the people with OCD that they don’t have to clean all day.. that a little bit of bacteria wouldn’t harm.. and as for the people with the mess they take a clean space out of it and also they learn different ways they could KEEP the clean space and that a little of tidy doesn’t harm.. it works both ways yk

This guy Richard is fantastic, using common sense and practical solutions whilst being empathetic and considered in his approach, making it manageable for the white haired guy.
The dark haired lady seems to be good also with the young guy who had/has depression - understanding yet practical. Hopefully they'll both either ease up or tighten up on their routines

I have two sets of sheets. I change them once a week and have always done so. The old ones go straight into the wash while I put the new ones on my bed. It doesn't make sense to me to do it any other way. But then, I'm old.

I do bedding change once every 10 days - 2 weeks and towel change every week (I use 3 different towels - 1 for body, 1 for hair and 1 for face). I think that is perfectly acceptable. People’s ideas about cleanliness are often based on how they grew up, and the ‘strangeness’ or ‘wrongness’ of that only becomes apparent when they live with other people or tell other people and they comment. In my opinion, changing bedding more than once a week is excessive and unnecessary unless you are having lots of sex! 😆

Christopher will never touch another room in his house. He had Richard there to do the cleaning and organizing "for him." Richard was right telling Christopher he needed to do the work and not act like a bystander. WOW! The level of disrespect Christopher had towards Richard; leaving the house to "take a break" and he laughed about it. Not for 20 minutes but 2 hours! I would have stopped all together and when Christopher finally returned, I would have sat back and watched Christopher tear up the carpet. Christopher would benefit with therapy to deal with his mother's passing. Her stuff was just dumped in his house instead of renting a garage to store temporarily not permanent. At least the kitchen is clean and a new fridge installed. However, it will not stay this way for long. Christopher has no desire to keep it clean.

The smell has to be breathtaking!! Its sad to see people live like this. I really hope they get the mental help they need just as much as the physical cleaning they get.
I think my only OCD thing would be, is i have to wash my hands EVERY time before i swap laundry or pull out of the dryer... i like a clean home, but i couldnt spend all day long every day just constantly cleaning. They should send michelle over to Christophers home!! Side Note: their accent is just too cute!! 😄

One of the common threads with people who let their houses get extremely dirty is they all have way too much stuff. It’s impossible to keep your home clean when you are also a hoarder. I think it would be good for these people to get some therapy to get to the root cause of their problems. They all seem so nice and they deserve to live a bette life where they can relax and enjoy their homes

I think the world would be a better place if we were all a bit more like minimlyst...dosnt have to be super extream but in genral money or not people just buy crap they don't need so I wish we would just stop building so many things in the world...if we don't need it don't make it...would be better for the environment too.

2 1/2 hours doesn't seem like a lot of time? Maybe it's because I'm a single parent and I spent lots of time daily/weekly, cleaning and tidying.
On the other hand, I suppose if a OCD person has an immaculate house and spends 2 1/2 per week cleaning, that's a lot of time spent on maintaining! Wow!

Making your bed as soon as you get up its a stupid thing to do. Let things breathe first. Crack a window.
Running the hoover 2x a day is not normal, piss off.
And getting rid of food by the sell by date is just wasteful. Just shows how little common sense that man has.

My Sister-in-law had OCD and cleaned the house twice a day, before and after work. She was diagnosed and one of her prescribed meds was Paxill. It really helped her. I could be the other half as I suffer from "slobosis" (aks bone idleness). Narragansett Bay
