My favourite ballet is Giselle. It was the first I saw and I love the two halves that hive you the best of both worlds- the story ballet first then the pure dance. I love swan lake and Fille too. I’ve seen the Royal ballet productions of all three and the clog dance always makes me laugh as does Alain. Thanks for another lovely video

I also wish I’d continued some musical instrument. I learned trumpet in school (super odd choice but we didn’t have a string option which is what I wanted to do). I can get the gist of the music notes still when I look at them, but I want to learn cello or something like that.
It’s not too late! Trumpet is awesome. We started back up on the piano and it has been SO fun and kinda relaxing 😌 Cello is one of our favorite instruments though never played it, so if you do end up learning it we’d love to hear what you think of it! ❤️

Serenade and Don Q are probably my favorite ballets. When I was young enough to have role I really wanted to dance it was Rubies. 🦆 Pet peeve… everyone saying all the Russian ballerinas are the best, when there are so many amazing ballerinas of other nationalities. I am not saying that the Russians are not wonderful but it is only one style and so limiting to only talk about them.

La Fille mal Gardee and The Firebird as your favorite ballets (besides Swan Lake, duh (:) says much about you as these are actually indeed underrated ballets, yet so far apart from each other in ballet history, but both very energetic - and there are birds again in all these three ballets - (;

@@balletreign Jumping on this, would absolutely love to see you two react to Princess Tutu owo It's a Japanese animated series that revolves around ballet, has some amazing dance animation (possibly some of the most accurate ballet portrayal in animation, in fact) and a heartrending story with lovable characters. Would especially love to hear your input on it as dancers!
Nice meeting you! I like Fille and Midsummer, too. I have a special feeling for Coppelia however. Another one I really like is Balanchine's Jewels, although I know it's not a story ballet. I'm a fan of Saint-Saens and Massanet. I just heard a Saint-Saens Opera Henry VIII. It has a nice little ballet in it, too. I'm sort of a fan of Raymonda also; although she is sort of a cold heroine. I like the music.
We have such similar taste! Coppelia is a joy, and Saint Saens and Massenet are amongst our fave composers too. Thanks for sharing, it is nice to meet you too! ❤️☺️

Oh oops the duck was from Beatrix Potter not La Fille Mal Gardee! Would like to see more on that! Also, do you two ever watch the Royal Ballet class videos from World Ballet Day? And if so, what do you think of them? I love Olga, the guest ballet mistress. I wonder what your teachers were like. My ballet teacher was terrifying and I find it so lovely to see how the teachers at the Royal Ballet give feedback but in such an affirming and positive way.

@@balletreign Yes please do talk about the World Ballet videos! I have also watched all the NYCB AOL online videos narrated by SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) and they have not really aged that well. What is intriguing to me is the quite startling contrast in different cultures between different ballet companies. Not to say any particular culture is right or wrong, but I do particularly admire some of the repetiteurs and coaches at RB which seem to challenge that idea that you have to be hard-nosed and brutal to improve. Also, I do find it interesting that although I have not done ballet for many years, because I was so passionate about it up to the age of 16 it has sort of formed who I am in many ways without me realising it. Psychologically, I mean, not having a good turn out. I am enjoying some of the recent books about ballet and its influence (Megan Fairchild's The Ballet Mindset was fascinating and I also enjoyed Mr B, the biography of Balanchine by Jennifer Homans which was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize this year). Thank you again for your lovely videos and sharing your ballet expertise with us all! :-)

My HUGE pet peeve is like people saying 'like' where it doesn't like belong, and I don't mean like every so often, but like all the time. Scream!! 9. Haha i am a lawyer though I don’t practice anymore. Good to do for a while since it really is good training but lifestyle and mental health wise not a forever career.
10. Don’t let that horrible former NYCB soloist teacher make you feel bad about your body. Quit her, but don’t quit ballet 😢 like, I wouldn’t have ever made it (don’t have the feet or the turn out or the body type) but I wish I had quit on my own terms, not hers.

I'm very new to everything ballet, so I don't have a favourite dance! I like dance with simple sets, if there's any set at all. I'm not sure what there is out there yet...
I'm a classical soprano and viola player (of the strictly amateur kind), coming at you from the world of music rather than dance. My playlist is also overwhelmingly classical and currently in the lead are a divertimento for viola and orchestra by Alessandro Rolla, a collection of Schubert lieder sung by Barbara Bonney, and Chopin's piano concerto no. 2 in F minor. This changes all the time. I recently saw a performance of the Petrushka suite by Stravinsky and I think I'm developing that love for his music...
My pet peeve is a bathroom thing too. It's people checking whether someone's in the bathroom by pressing the door handle down aggressively, perhaps even rattling it, making me inside terrified that the door will pop open and reveal my backside to the world. Shudder.
My top tip to my younger self, when it comes to making music, would be: no one is perfect. Mistakes aren't a sign that you're hopeless. They're a sign that you're learning. If you're not making mistakes, that's bad: it means you're not learning. Practice makes progress. Enjoy the process. Keep going and think of how far you've come already!

Fun fact: hmmmm none comes to mind
1) Cinderella, but specifically the Edward Liang version (he's the resident artistic director of BalletMet in Columbus Ohio). I have never seen a more beautiful ballet. Literally crying at the end of every act! My husband's favorite ballet is Firebird! We just watched that one again the other day! 2) I saw Swan Lake live earlier this spring and I've pretty much just been listening to that. 3) OMG, my absolute favorite thing to do is go to the ballet. My darling husband has been so generous these past two years or so and has gifted me season tickets to the ballet for my birthday! My favorite thing to do is get dressed up, drive a few hours into the city, have dinner and then go watch ballet in real life, knowing that I'm taking lessons and I'm at least on my way to not sucking XD... I know it's like dance adjacent so maybe it doesn't really answer your question, but that's definitely the thing I like to do most outside of taking ballet. 4) Dewdrop from the Nutcracker. Those attitude turns are just.. *Sigh... 5) Hmm... pretty gross maybe, but pretty interesting, I guess... I had half my face reconstructed after being kicked in the head by a mule when I was 2. We were taking care of my grandpa's farm when they were away on vacation once and I got into the pasture, I guess... But I look fine! The plastic surgeon actually did me some favors so it's fine. Other fun facts that may be worth knowing.. 3 songs have been written about me (no commissions! So these songs were totally unsolicited!), one fan club, also totally unsolicited, and I can solve a Rubix cube in under two minutes every time! 6) I also used to play instruments (piano, guitar, drums, the ukelele, the tin whistle...) but have pretty much taken on other hobbies.. like ballet! I've also been in real estate school for the last several weeks! So that's interesting I guess. I just don't have the time to dedicate to those other interests regularly right now and that's okay, I think... expanding my skillset isn't a bad thing! 7) Ugh, as much as I want to be accepting of people who have differences... it really bugs me when people don't like food with flavor.. You know who I'm talking about.. the macaroni-and-chicken-nuggets-only kinds of people. I think it bothers me because it's always directly affecting the food we can eat. We can't go have indian food if we are hanging out with even just one of these people because, even though there are things on the menu that would totally suit their palate, he/she is almost invariably unwilling to try it. Ya know what I mean? And I eat a very vegetable-heavy diet so I'm all about new and varied foods. 8) Introvert. I pretend to be an extrovert sometimes because I read once that introverts who pretend to be extroverts are happier. 9) I am many things and I will continue to grow and learn and be many more things! Right now I work for an educational research company out of New York, which doesn't really have a title.. I guess I'm sort of like a consultant... and I'm getting my real estate licensure.. and I'm a ballet dancer and I'm a photographer and... You know, I don't see a need to limit it. I just want to do a good job in whatever I do. 10) Advice to my younger ballet self.. Don't be so eager to go en pointe.. Ultimately, I think I went en pointe at exactly the right time in my training, but I think that pointe is such a level above that it really just helps to have all the additional strength and technique you can in order to stay safe once you get en pointe.

Agreed. I had a photo professor label me as an extrovert and after that, he questioned every photo I turned in that wasn't a portrait. Lol It really messed with my head at the time.
