For those syrups that are (in my opinion) just that touch too much effort to make yourself (passionfruit, orgeat, ginger, etc) I recommend going with Liber and Co. I tried them after a recommendation from Anders YT channel and they're shelf stable for at least a year due to the high sugar content if you keep it in the fridge and have been a bar staple for us for the past 2 years
It’s great! Thanks for sharing - only ‘problem’ is that now I have to make a Jungle Bird to compare :-) It’s definitely not the same - it’s more complex, but they’re closely related. Especially if you make your Jungle Birds with Coruba. The zombie connection is a bit harder to taste, but of course the Pernod gives a hint. Love all the great content - thanks!!
There’s a lot more going on here compared to a Jungle Bird with 2x the Campari and 2x the rum. It’s like a Zombie with an Italian riff… an Italian Zombie.
I managed to get my hands on a bottle of Hamilton Pot Stilled Jamaican Gold, which should be as the Black but without color. And this bottle is just sooo strange to me, with very high esters, to the point that I’m not sure if it really is what it is supposed to be. What is your opinion on the Pot Stilled Jamaican? Is it extreme? Is there any other rum you’d say is similar?
Drink sounds great, however I'm not fan of the name really. The zombie to me is like at least 3 1/2 + ounces of rum. If its gonna be a zombie variation i feel like it needs to hold true to that amount of 40+ proof liquor in the drink otherwise its just another tiki cocktail. Thoughts?
There were many variations and adaptations to the Zombie over time and not all had 3+ oz of rum. Beachbum has a simplified version with 1 1/2 oz of rum. This is plenty of boozy with the addition of Campari and the Apricot Liqueur that bump up the ABV. Plus Marie King says it’s a Zombie, so it’s a Zombie.
The drink is great don't get me wrong but this is really just a Jungle Bird with Apricot (the PS syrup is totally lost). Fantastic drink just has the wrong name.
Good morning. This cocktail must be very good, I'm going to try it now but using Aperol instead of Campari. I use it in Mai Tai to replace Curaçao and for variety, I find it makes the cocktail more exotic. Cheers
Heck yes!!! I’m developing my menu for my home tiki bar/room and I’m a huge fan of Campari in tiki drinks. I love this twist on a zombie and a jungle bird. The pineapple and Campari play off each other so well. Can’t wait to try this one!!!
Just made this and it’s delicious also really should try liber &co passion fruit syrup it does make a big difference it’s a big change love it in my chief lapu lapu
Another great video! One thing I do to preserve my passion fruit (and other seasonal or hard to get fruit juices/puree) is freeze them. I have a ice cube tray that holds roughly one oz so whenever I need some I just reach in and grab one. Also allows me to sugar adjust large batches.
This music is a lot better than the last couple videos. Thank you for the change
I’ll be going back to the other music… just for you!
"this quality is too good for RUclips". Uh, Derek, you know that's what they say about your channel, don't you?

I agree on everything but the orgeat. Check out this channel's 60 second orgeat recipe. It is delicious, easy to make, and cheap!
@@brettbly4571 Ill give it a look next time im out thanks for the recommendation
The horror movie fan in me thinks this ought to be called The Fulci
Zombi 2
@@johnolmos8670 perfect!
REAL brand passion fruit puree is my vote. A lot of the others don't real fruit. It tastes amazing
Thanks for the introduction to The Tiki Show. It's outstanding. Really engaging and so much to watch.

I was going to say, this is essentially a Jungle Bird/ Zombie mashup (Jungle Zombie??)

@@makeanddrink Most JB recipes are 3/4 oz Campari and 1.5 oz of rum though? That’s not too far off from this drink.
@slimpunk this drink has 4 ingredients that the Jungle Bird does not have. 4.
And the original Jungle Bird is 1/2 oz Campari 1 oz of rum.
Man - that was good.
Nice! I have all the ingredients for this one and will give it a try this weekend!

Interesting version!
Can you give some guidance on rums? More of a “category” vs an exact rum?
If you like tiki drinks buy a copy of smuggler's cove and it'll have exactly what you're looking for plus much more. You'll be glad you did
You can also make your own passion fruit syrup
He talks about making his own in the video.

Not everything with Campari is a Jungle Bird. Live a little.
I have to agree. Tastes great...but then so does a Jungle Bird. :)
Make me one when we meet up again.
I substituted Goslings Black Seal and Appleton 12. Are those good choices?
Great choices!
I find Campari too bitter, do you think a less bitter substitute like Aperol would get lost? Or should I just dial back on the Campari?

Just a note that I've kept Real passionfruit syrup in a cold part of the fridge for months with no noticeable loss of quality.

Will this drink be thrown way off if you sub Aperol or another bitter amaro instead of Campari?

I've made this one a few times since the Tiki Show video and it is great to see you feature it here. Great video!
I just had a Zombie last night, from your "5 Real Tiki Cocktails" video from last week. I guess im having another Zombie tonight.
Looks good! I love Jungle Birds and this looks quite similar, so will be fun to try them side by side.
