Chinos are the perfect middle ground between jeans and dress pants, and they’re essential in an interchangeable wardrobe

My pick: a medium gray pair of chinos.
I'm in college and my gray chinos have been a workhorse for over a year. They match with any color (except more gray IMO) and I've worn them with anything from sneakers and a t-shirt to Chelsea boots and a navy blazer. I also own navy, olive and a pair of khaki jeans and blue jeans

I bought two pairs of chinos( khaki and olive green) and they completely changed my style to way better. Everyone noticed in the office. I will buy navy chino this week. I definitely recommend it

I’ve lost 100 lbs over the past 14 months. I started with 46 and now wear a 36 skinny fit! To keep my clothing budget from exploding I tried Amazon Goodthreads as I’ve sized down. They fit me well, no complaints. I can’t say how well they will hold up as I haven’t kept a pair for more than 3 months.

Favorite brand of chinos are easily the RSQ brand you get from Tilly’s, specifically the skinny fit. I skateboard regularly, so they have a good amount of stretch to them, I think like 3% spandex. I typically wear them for casual outfits, but I used to work in an office setting that was business casual. For that, I always wore a nice button shirt with a tie and paired them with some cole haan oxfords that would be suede or leather. They are also more of a high rise pant, so for someone like myself who is shorter, I feel it looks better and if you have to tuck in the button shirt, you’ll look taller too. Such versatile pants.

If you're trying to make chinos the main staple of your wardrobe, I think Banana Republic is the way to go because they have so much variety in their dyes while keeping it thoughtful and not too flashy. Various trims and fittings as well. Can be a bit long so you might need to get them altered, but you should be doing that for most of your pants anyway.

Honestly, I only have one pair and it's a navy blue pair I got from Old Navy for 15 bucks. They fit great, look great, and honestly the quality is pretty nice. Nothing premium for sure, but for a cheap starter pair (I've had mine since January) they work great.

Luigi Borrelli, because they come in all shades, have Italian flair and a ton of hand work. Also, their fit is sublime, fairly slim, but plenty of room to move. Also the hand sewn, skirted waist band they do is the most comfortable I've ever worn!
I also love the stretch chinos by Brunello Cucinelli. Great fit and style.

I think chinos work well only in lighter colours like: khaki, tan, beige, off-white, light to medium browns, light to medium olive, light-stone-grey and light blue. The navy, medium to dark greys, black, dark blue and other very dark colours do not look good on chinos because dark colour means more formal/dressy and chinos are not. This is where dress formal wool trousers win, particularly in navy and medium-to-dark greys. Interesting that dark colours like black and dark indigo blue look much better on jeans than they do on chinos (provided there is no or minimum distressing/fade on jeans).

I like the slim fit chinos at Express, I normally don’t shop there because I feel it’s overpriced but their Large fits me like a glove. How do you make that neat kuff Brock?
