      よよかさん、素晴らしいコラボですね。 ドラムパートは作曲したんですか? グルーヴが深くて、本当に「振れる」んです。 華麗で味わい深いドラムソロも。 EPの曲は少し「ジャジー」スティーリー・ダンに似ているように感じます。補完という意味です。私は40年以上経った今でもスティーリー・ダンの音楽が大好きですが、「ザ・ダン」では業界で最高のセッション・ドラマーのみを起用しました。 . 岡田健さん、ベン・トーレスさん、フリスト・ヴィチェフさん、アキさん、ご冥福をお祈りします。 ☮
      Yoyoka, this is a great collaboration. Did you compose the drum part? It has a deep groove, and you really "swing it". Glorious, tasteful drum solo too. The songs in the EP feel a little like 'Jazzy" Steely Dan. I mean that as a complement. I still love Steely Dan's music more than 40 years later, and "The 'Dan" only used the very best session drummers in the business. Best Wishes, to You, Ken Okada, Ben Torres , Hristo Vitchev and Aki. ☮

    this group is flirting with Brubeck proportions and man, that right hand of Yoyoka's on her solo is otherworldly. The saxophonist is smokin'--it's beautiful and fluid musicianship all the way 'round.

      @@Rob-Yule Just to be clear, I believe some of the best musicians learned to play music by ear and have never learned to read or write sheet music. I don't know if or how much it would help her. IMO Yoyoka is incredibly talented & skilled. I hope no one misinterprets my question. :)

    • @Rob-Yule
      @Rob-Yule Год назад +2

      @@Richard.Cabeza Actually, you are the first I have seen that asked the question rather than assuming! During the Patreon Zoom call in March, I asked the question: Can you read music (drum charts) well enough to play at speed? YOYOKA said not yet. Sometimes (most of the time LOL) she underestimates her skill so it might be like her saying I can play the drums a bit! I intend to pursue this topic in the call in August.

    • @gbulmer
      @gbulmer Год назад +2

      @@Rob-Yule I'll play devil's advocate.
      Maybe Yoyoka does *_not_* underestimate her skill on *_her_* metrics.
      Lots of people cite the "Dunning-Kruger effect" when people at one end of the range, with poor knowledge or skills, overestimate their capabilities. They don't understand enough to know better.
      At the other end of the range, people with huge talent and ability, understand and appreciate how much more there is to know or achieve. So they might _seem_ to under estimate their ability, however their perspective includes more than "mere mortals". There appears to be evidence, not just speculation.
      Maybe Yoyoka's standard of "good enough" site reading is a perspective from the high end of the range?
      Maybe when she can read any drum chart once for any song she wants or needs to play, and then play and "nail it", that'll be "OK" for her?
      I should add, that seems a good metric to me too. She wouldn't need to be any better than that. 😀
      There are session musicians who are claimed able to operate continuously at that level every time.
      For example, Tony Levin, bassist, reputedly turned up to a session, listened once making a few notes, composed and played his bass part once, then left for the next session. It was on a King Crimson song. King Crimson's manager saw him do it. He says some time later, he talked to Levin about it. Levin had forgotten about the session, and forgotten he'd composed the bass line. It was just one of several sessions on a busy day, in a busy week. Effortless, *_and_* he didn't need to be any better! 😀
      Another example is Larnell Lewis composing the drum parts for 6 Snarky Puppy songs for the "We Like It Here" album on a 7½ hour transatlantic flight, without access to a drum kit. He explains in the first minute of _Larnell Lewis Hears A Song Once And Plays It Perfectly_ ruclips.net/video/vIW72VXMPHo/видео.html
      There will likely be work in music for musicians who can do that for some time to come. I won't be around, but it's nice to imagine Yoyoka enjoying playing music with other musicians in 2100, like an old Dorothea Taylor. 😀
      Best Wishes. ☮
      Edit: Added link to Larnell Lewis video, deleted spurious blank lines, corrected a spelling mistake.

      @@Rob-Yule Great job Rob. Yoyoka is amazing, and learning quickly. So there is no need to exaggerate, or possibly risk creating extra pressure for her.
      I am very happy, even relieved, that she is exploring jazz. Her ability to create and maintain a pocket, improvise, even explode, fit very well. Plus Ken Okada has composed some great music.
      Also jazz has a culture of supporting live music. That makes sense as every performance is expected to be different and unique. Performing jazz is a potential way to make a living.
      She has far more talent than covering others songs. Also, I'm concerned 'covers' don't ensure she has enough scope to express herself. I feel she needs different types of challenge, specifically composing music, to help her grow, and develop her potential.
      In the long term, Yoyoka needs to find a path which makes her happy. I'd like her to find a way to make a living making music, but that is partly my selfishness, and partly her talent enhances music and hence life, for anyone who cares to listen.
      Keep on doing what you're doing. 👍👍👏
      Best Wishes. ☮
