I have been requested to make all of her era ranges woohoo :P This is dedicated to my hoes: mcpsp12, MrsGaGax, monraydayalwayz, IloveArethaFranklin (clearly the biggest hoe of all - the name says it all xD) And tons of thanks to bconsitt & MCLAMB4LiFE for supplying me with many videos/notes. PEACE lambtings xD
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Collecting all of her performances from throughout 1990 to 1991, I have successfully compiled a collection of notes that reflect the vocal range of my guhll Mimi (from this era). Mariah was barely in her 20's here, coming out of teens and regular life she embarked on becoming the most successful female artist of a generation! Despite breaking records and having 4 #1s in this short space of time she was still a genuine, down-to-earth person, and regardless of her success she managed to stay 'grounded'. I have recaptured her modesty in this video like a time capsule. I think it's interesting to see this now confident lady, when she was just debuting a shy singer. Overall this was the era when everything musically began for Mariah Carey and the world saw the birth of a star! That was like some grammys intro lmao.

4:24 is Eb5-F5
5:13 SOOO! SOOO! SOOO! SOOO! SOOO! SO! faithfully, so faithfully..
I remember u r missing one more 'SO' ...u edit it already?
5:21 *YEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!* - r.i.p mic, so powerful
Yes. She SANG 😱
7:20 during her vanishing on SNL rehearsal was her best, most vibrant, ringing, pure whistle shes ever done
Dan O'Connor i agree that's one my favorites
It was, but I think 7:26 was her best
Chris Coyne child she went from a belted repeated run strait to whistle. That was definitely her best transition live in any era
best vocal transition ive heard
Needaaaaaad!
4:53-5:01
I love the fact that her chest voice had so much color and character here! Her whistles were also pretty awesome.
She wasnt yet as refined in this era. both vocally and image wise and it kind of makes me love it. She was shy, young, immensely gifted and was ready to show it off. It does show however in her upper belts that her technique wasnt yet perfected or maybe it was just the nerves of live performances that cause some of that. Nevertheless, wonderful video.
I love the way she sang,her technique and her vibrato was just unique and amazing. For example when she sang at 5:22 on her grammy performance.
@DanielAvilaAGT Yeah in a lot of Xtina's old interviews she cited Mariah as an influence and said she created her vocal style by listening to her and other female singers.
Trust me when you hear clips over and over again and you have the knowledge to determine notes you realise their complexity-her G5 in Hero was mixed very little compared to her F#5s in Vanishing and the F5s (so) in VOL. She mixed a lot here listen to those heady F5 and F#5s although when she wanted she could make her F5s full like that VOL grammy F5. She was just a novice here and was expirementing. In the DD era her tone became higher and she could reach those upper belts more easily.
Wow her vocal range was so limited during this range. I mean yeas C#3-Eb7 is still over 4 octaves. But idk its weird she only belted up to F#5 and descended down to C#3. Still a great ear tho, probably my overall favorite album from her.
kpoptastic Yea she continued to improve each album
kpoptastic even after this era, this remained her supported range to be honest. None if her 2nd octave notes are supported or anything above F#5 really...not consistently anyway.
I like how Mariah's voice is so extraordinary that we call over 4 octaves a "limited range" lol. But like another commentator said, she started to belt higher during Daydream, her whistles got higher during Emotions and Music Box, and her low notes got lower during Butterfly and Rainbow. So her range was constantly expanding throughout the '90s.
Never in my life did I think someone would call four octaves a limited vocal range 😂 Even the two and a half octaves of chest range is impressive, let alone adding head voice and whistle notes into the mix!
range isn't matter
debut era : more powerful vocal , beautiful tone , not nasal like daydream era and music box era, not thin sound like daydream and music box era and resonance
I love this era. Her voice here was so rough and powerful, with this kind of black and blowin' texture.
@LoboAscuridad Mariah's whistles became her trademark so she didn't stop. Her voice 'changed' after 1996/97 it became lower in tonality this could've been because it was overused (and some say abused), the whistling could've also contributed to it, we'll never know exactly.
@TheHololo LOL! That was a very stupid notion. Mariah had the same boobs all throughout the 90's. Her voice changing had a lot to do with her overusing her voice over her entire career. Her voice during the Music Box & Daydream era is a bit different from the Mariah Carey (Debut) & Emotions era.
WOW!!! This Video is fantastic!!! It shows Mariah when she debuted her first album. She was absolutely AMAZING then (in the Early 1990's) - and, she STILL is now. I have always loved her voice - it's one of the greatest voices (from one of the best vocalists) of ALL time.Thank you for uploading, and posting, this Video. You did a great job. Keep posting more of them.
2:47 - 2:51 Ohhh dahhhhling that vibrato is so powerful
Never heard better E5’s. Of course at this point in her career she only really CONSISTENTLY supported up to E5. But they were some amazing E5’s
Brandon Hall nope she consistently supported F5s and often supported F#5s.
@Erick Freiria "high larynx" lmao. The larynx has to be physiologically high to be belting in your upper range but she didn't bring it up to a crazy high place. Some F#5s were too pushed though
LOVING THESE VOCAL ERA VIDEOS!!! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT :') PLEASE DONT STOP!!!
Watching this video amazes me. To think how far this phenomenal woman/singer has come is truly inspiring. Seeming almost timid and careful compared to the way she performs now. This vid also makes me realise how she's improved as a singer despite people claiming or assuming she lost her voice simply because it's too hard for them to believe she could still be as great as ever or better...
One of my favorite mariah era's ever!
I wish she would have sung "Prisoner" during this era...she would have killed it on the F5!!!
It’s very clear here that she’s ALWAYS had rasp behind her voice it just wasn’t as present in her early career
I can't believe there are no live G5s in this era! Even in the E=MC2 era (potentially her worst vocal era) she hit a few G5s
no she did actually hit one during love story i think
NlCOAND9ERS
Child she did not hit no G5 in this era nor Emotions, or Music Box and a lot of them were dubbed in Daydream F#5//G5 is like the tip of her belting range
if you wanna talk G5s she did hit most of them during daydream, yes, there are peaks during emotions era if i recall but that's about it if i forgot any. there is one G5 in e=mc era during love story that is debated over being live which i do believe is live. let me try to find the link for it.
ruclips.net/video/a8zpD1HPmBo/видео.html couldn't find only the performance itself but there's the link at about 2:39
She hitted only one live G5 in Love Story 2008, & also one live G5 in When Christmas Comes 2014.
I think she was amazing in this era! Having said that, i think she is amazing in every era lol however she's done better in every other era. The way she sings now is such an improvement which i wouldn't have thought was possible at the time seeing as how amazing she was but every aspect of her voice and vocal range has improved and not deteriorated like some foolishly claim.
In general 1990-2006 her voice was on top. The whole 90's decade was pretty much perfection in terms of her vocals, Only the Rainbow tour was a little weak, 2001-2002 was amazing then she truly started taking risks again in 2003 and slayed the Charmbracelet era and the TEOM era was good. After that her performances have been on/off, her voice got raspy and scratchy after 2006 :/ 2008/2009 had some nice moments, 2010 was really good though. And now lets see :)
Her actual vocal range during this era was C#3-F#5-C6-D7. C6 was from SNL rehearsal last 1990.
@Chimier
Haha, this is the only time you will see me like this, exams are over and the man came and fixed the air condition.
I was not happy these past few days.
Still one of my favourite CD's ever, bought it when it came out and she hasnt made a better CD since
W o w !
Love her from this Era!
I'm an aspiring recording artiste and your video is very inspiring, love the collection. Mariah's technique has always inspired me to perfect mine as much as i can :D.
@Chimier
Haha, I am a peaceful person if you haven't noticed.
:)
WOW it's widescreen HD Nice! :)
My fav LOW notes are from the T. Club.
@3:12 to 3:22 & 3:50 to 4:00 are my fav upper register note
@3:38 Place?
@5:57 LOL
@7:54 My fav whistle
I love this video!
@TheDeathsAdvocate The reason she didn't hit any Gs was not because she didn't mix - because she clearly did, it is because Mariah was told to match the exact notes live that she did in the studio and in VOL, Vanishing, Someday, LTT and all of her singles from that time, there were no songs which had the G5 note included (with the exception of bg vocals).
@DanielAvilaAGT Thanks I'm not sure when she recorded Can't Let Go probably at age 20/21 but that was for the emotions album not the debut btw lol @ xtuna.
wow, this is like so ancient MARIAH. more than a great video and great compilations, you did a very very god job! A++
She was just a teen here. Awww.... i consider. Her freaked debut album was released 2 months after her 20th bday. she did record her debut album at 19. just like Xtuna. Lol. I mean xtina. xD
With the exception of Loves Takes time or Cant let go which was done when she was 20. (correct me of im wrong)
Great video sentfromupabove! A+++
@calvin999999999 It's a diminutive 'Eb' it is hit at the pinnacle of the note, generally the note is a 'D' but she ascends a semitone for a moment.
Yay another video. That means Exams are OVER!!! xD
I like the EB3 @0:40
Best upper register : 4:25 Power
Whistle Register : 7:48 Why doesn't Mariah Whistle in vision of love anymore?
Does it hurt to whistle register?
Mariah is a songbird Queen!
what was the song with the sustained B4
Vanishing
0:40
Low note slays all
Great video
Jenaya is pleased!
@Chimier
:O
Friends don't wish that upon friends.
Plus I have been busy very busy, and have been working on this long video on the side, I hope it is a success.
Great video! LOL 2:28 - "Go ahead"
Go 'head MC!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU, AND THIS VID IS BEAUTIFUL....I MISS THE 90'S VOICE RANGE THO
nice job mate...like how you used a collection of the same notes on the F5's/F#5's..whch are personally my favourite by her in any era :)
@Chimier
Haha, I am just not in the mood. I have so many exams and she keeps popping up on videos talking that ying yang bull.
@sentfromupabove ever noticed how Mariah's B6's always sound so sharp? And then her C7's sound like a bell, so rich? Agree? Go check those notes out.
it makes me laugh when people wonder Mariah's voice has changed, its evident how much she used it and this is only the first year in her 20 year career!!!
OK Lads!
here's what Im thinkin
we have about 1 million diva belting videos, and about 1 billiob comments about em. so I would love it if one of you made one about the truly strongest voice, Mahalia, Linda Eder, Shirley Bassey, Ronstadt, Whitney...pure volume
and lets see what it do?
aiight?
@StarpeemReturns Aw thanks lool I wont stop dw I have started making the DD era vid (briefly). Although I'll make different vids in between like atm I'm making her range in the Shining Through The Rain special :) Thanks for watching :D
@LoboWarriorForever 3:38 - Sondastoppet (dunno the exact sp. lol)
lol this video is so cute! "yewww might say!!"
데뷔시절은 진짜 레전드ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
@LoboAscuridad That means I am on midterm break lol I still have 10 more fking exams :/ But I will upload one more video. I'll try to upload one every week. Mariah did whistle at 7:48 lol. Yes it does damage your vocal chords to whistle.
Classic mariah doing her thing
@superx57 True about her voice, i think thats because she started singing more nasally in 1993, but i think also the vocal nodules had something to do with her probably having vocal nodules, but alot if it has to do with rest.
@TheDeathsAdvocate Oh really, thats fair enough, im not too botherd about mixing cause everyone does it, and as longas its more chest driven im not botherd.
I defiantly agree that 93/94 were her glory years vocally. Thats what i mean though, she was new, bit scratchy and it just took a couple of years for her to really know her voice and control it pitch/belting wise, cause she started developing that 'boom' when she belting during 93 which i love ad glided even easier to the F5/G5
Haven't seen this one. Well put together, laminator. ;)
@Chimier
Is this shootforthemoon89, trick always like this ?
Child, has made me act out of character.
smh
@ImperfectAng3lz She can't every note on the piano lol. The piano is from an A0 to a C8, which is more than 7 octaves, Mariah's total range is 5 octaves and 2 notes.
i love this one of your best mate
wow these are old videos, good job on the video, very creative can't wait to see the rest!
@sentfromupabove well, now i'm the second. lol.
hey, i strongly believe that MARIAH's E5s are what influenced Cristina Aguilera high voice part a lot. you can totally tell.
her best vocal tone era imo!
@calvin999999999
Calvin you are wrong.
I guess I will say this in your language
" It PEAKED at Eb7."
:)
4:50-5:00 CLEAR
@Chimier
Haha, no I don't do that. I am a pacifist.
Plus yall have enough members.
:)
@mcdamian17 True, but I don't think that she can go much lower than an E2. She may have been able to higher - her coach said she went beyond the piano (C8). So if that is true her range at it's minimum could be from an E2-C#8 - 5 octaves, 4 notes and semi-tone. Also recently JD (or someone who worked with her) said the World doesn't know how many octaves Mariah really has. I hope she shows us soon :P
The Greatest Star of all time! :)
Her whole debut era is more impressive than any successor's career
@Jared95C its her placement. she placed them correctly where as if she did them in her throat they would have a scratchy forced sound.
@musicguy713 Yay me too :P Wish we had the files in HD when I made this lmao they all appeared in 2011, but we still need soultrain 1991!
Has anyone noticed that whenever Mariah's voice started changing (in a bad way) was when she got her boobs done in 1997 or 1998? May be that had something to do with her voice decline? idk
@DanielAvilaAGT Hahaha that made me laugh I am working on it just need to refine it and pick a picture. But first I am gonna make another vid before that, I was supposed to make it like 3 months ago as a request lol.
@crazy2hazy I know she doesn't mix (overall) but in this era her Fs and F#s are evidently heady.
@EbieApple After a Bb6 the whistle register tends to have a 'sharper' much higher screamish sound. Although, yes her C7s sound nice especially the IWTKWLI ones.
After whatching this video, I realize that Mariah Carey in her debut era is like a refined version of Christina Aguilera in her debut era...
Great video :)
Can't wait for all the other era's.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!
@sentfromupabove
Mariah doesn't really mix anyway. She just has really good placement.
I'm not even trying to compare her to Beyoncé but I swear at 2:37 she does not sound like Mariah, I can hear a hint of Beyoncé 😯
And at 2:48
Beyonce wasnt there in the industry yet
this is 1990
Animals Documentary they're being hypothetical
julo Compare Beyonce to Xtina, Jhud or Kelly clarkson. Not with the Great Mariah. So different.
The Serial Yup here you are again, being delusional.
Great video.
I like how pitch perfect her notes were. She always managed to hit the same notes in her songs, unlike so many other "singers"
Soah!
5:12-5:17
@wimpytx93 True. Mariah has a stunning voice and range.
nice compilation! like it!
@sentfromupabove great job as always! You are almost as good at making videos as Mariah is at singing LOL
@shootforthemoon89
Can you come to a video and not talk about mixing for once ?
Please and thank you.
Mariahdaily 20 year retrospective collection
BUY MARIAH'S NEW SONG ALMOST HOME!
It's on MDJournal in the 20 retrospective year thingy it's a rehearsal of VOL SNL.
This is an awsome video good job
Great Video!
@TheDeathsAdvocate and that is what i mean about her vocals here, such ease and whether the technique or great and she isnt mixing is besides the point because she just doesnt sound as polished....as in control, even though her melismas have such control, she sounds new to singing almost...i think im explaining myself wrong lol, i hope you understand
Hi friend. I used some notes from this video to make a video called "Mariah Carey vs Celine Dion belting battle (debut eras) + low notes". I hope you don't mind I used some notes from your video. 😉
That's ok 👍
@comedymania999
smh, internet thugs
tragic

@shootforthemoon89
I asked a simple question, and being a stan you are, you tried to prove me wrong. Your first comment under your new account was about mixing on the Celin vs. Ree video. So you cannot say that you don't do it, and you were having a conversation with Chimier about mixing and mixing technique.
Stop the ignorance please

@shootforthemoon89
My lord, I think this needs to be broken down mathmatically.
Judging by your Average CPM (Comments Per Hour) you spend most of your day on youtube.
I am assuming you watch 90 videos per day.
25% Commedy
10% Miscellaneous
65% Music (Including VR videos)
Out of that 65%, you comment on every 5-7th one. Essentially that is 10%.
10% percent of the time you are leaving pointless meaningless comments about a singer's technique.
Again you're WRONG....
@sentfromupabove her C7's everything above and below is amazing but yes i do love the ones in IWTKWLI. Those are some 'blow you away' notes!
