  • Multi-instrumental artist CAM FORRESTER performs an authentic cover version of the unfinished raunchy-rock song 'Guess I'm Falling In Love' by The Velvet Underground (a track which the band performed often throughout 1967-8, but never officially released on a studio album), in a video recreation of a 1967-era Velvet Underground concert at the Boston Tea Party, by using a backdrop collage made from several period photos of the original venue, as well as authentic music equipment, stage presentation, lighting effects, and intense Andy Warhol-style zooming & panning.
    This cover is based the version recorded live at The Gymnasium in 1967, as well as the brief excerpts showing the song being played during Andy Warhol's film of the band performing at the Boston Tea Party in 1967.
    As always, I transcribed and interpreted each part as faithfully to the original performances as I reasonably could, while making conservative use of tasteful improvements in keeping with the integrity of the music. I also did my best to replicate the overall mix and stereo image of the original, just with added clarity gained from recording each instrument part individually.

    A little Velvet video before the release of the magnoficent documentary of Sterling Morrison. From one Velvets fan to another, great job, and I hope you do more covers!

    These kinds of performances were especially what I liked about VU at that time. Raw. Mo Tucker's innovating drumming was spot on.

    I was utterly blown away by this track when it surfaced on the Peel Slowly And See box-set - and SO jealous of the audience who heard that performance. I've always thought this must be the funnest Velvets song to play, so thanks for the flawless demonstration!

    The Velvets did two very different versions of Ride into the Sun. I like both and have for years thought about trying to create a hybrid that includes elements from both. I’m sure it’s possible - I’m less sure I’m the person to do it. If only there was someone out there with the knowledge and skills…

    Was the how to play vid of this song deleted?

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah I'm afraid so - I was never quite happy with that recording; the tempo was too slow and there were various syncing issues in it. This one is much better, and the playing can be seen throughout the song!

      @@CAMFORRESTER This is really great. Although I wouldn't have deleted your original. Anyhow please consider a new version of "What Goes On" although the album version is what turned me on to the track the live versions for me represent the very peak of the band and they are so different to the album version. I also have to mention your advocacy of the badly recorded "White Light White Heat" album has been most thing for me. "I Heard Her Call My Name" being now one of my all time favourites now I can hear what's going on due to your breakdown cover.

      @@markcrowther6953 Apologies, it's just there was also an inaccuracy in the guitar tutorial (I got part of the interplay between the guitars backwards)...and it was bugging me!
      A live version of 'What Goes On' will certainly be in the tribute band set list!
      And that's really great to hear that I've helped make IHHCMN a bit more comprehensible!
