    Just getting my CDL, so I been watching these trucking vids for a couple weeks. Learned more from this one than most of the others combined. THANKS! And I agree; starting the day with a good poop is a good thing.
    Stay, up brother!

  • @Thasgonna

    I started at Schneider as OTR as my first job with a fresh CDL. I found out fast it wasn't for me so I was only there for 2 months. I found a flatbed job that I really liked where I was home 2-3 nights a week but the guy I was working for ended up selling that truck. fortunately, the job I have now is a dedicated Target account that pays .48 cpm starting out with 400-550 miles per day and I'm home every night (day cab)... January 3rd will be 1 year that ive had my CDL.. it's been a good year =)

      Spooby Schneider has a sign on contract? You can break that without repercussions?

    • @Thasgonna
      @Thasgonna 6 лет назад +1

      nah i didnt have a contract with Schneider I had my CDL already when I went there. most companies only make you sign a contract if they put you through school to get your CDL and I don't think Schneider even does that.

    • @animelife2136
      @animelife2136 6 лет назад

      I have my CDL's but no experience but when I look on their website I see "sign on bonus". I should talk to a recruiter but I know they'll tell me anything.

    • @Thasgonna
      @Thasgonna 6 лет назад +1

      those sign on bonuses are paid to you over time. there's no contract.. the longer you stay the more of the bonus you get is all

    You are a straight shooter. But the truth is the trucking industry is a total scam period. 70 hrs week w zero overtime. Minimum wage and sleep at work for weeks or even months

    The problem I have with this video is that a normal average day person has to say it and not the companies that know their post false advertising..and at best deceptive.... there's a reason these companies are not posting what their average new driver makes....

    Making about half what I expected so far. If it doesn't get better I'll be looking at other options. I'm trying to stick it out for now because I learns something new every day and backing skills are improving and that's the most stressful thing for me right now. I'm driving regional and like you say, every stop is unique and some of them are a real challenge. OTR appeals to me because I'd like to get up and just drive all day and not deal with all the other crap that feels like wasted time.

    I am lucky to have landed a local gig straight out of driving school. I don't think I could handle OTR. I'm 2 days in and I'm already having doubts, hahaha. Gotta develop that trucker butt.. keep up the good work bud.

    Even as a local LTL Driver, home every night, you miss out on a lot of things, you work long hours most of the time, until the slow season comes along, especially in the summer..

    I'd agree about the regional and not getting home to see the kids and missing out on the growing up part BUT... lol. The school year has started and my girlfriends kids are back and annoying as ever so it's time for me to hit the road. Go intermodal 3am Monday and return sometime Friday and get home just after the kids get picked up by there dad. ( who by the way is a total drunk.) Lol. I'll hang with my bitch over the weekend and only see the brats briefly. A win win.

  • @jeffwalker1329

    That's good advice. To piggy back....And then you wonder is having a million mile award or worse two million mile award really worth the pain, sacrifice, loss of life, diabetes, and fat belly really, really worth it? Is it really worth it? Get out there make your money as quick as humanly possible and invest wisely. Get the hell out before you die of fat gut and diabetes. There is no good food OTR. Every restaurant is trying to kill you with shit food. This man probably ate the steak and eggs for a week and couldn't poop, until finally, it come through. I suppose I could go on. Driving is fun though. It gets a little better once you figure out how to take care of yourself. But it is easy to get in the bad routines and sometimes because of time, you have to skip eating or taking shower.
    People don't realize what we go through. Its harder than it looks.

  • @angrywhitemale6653
    @angrywhitemale6653 6 лет назад +1

    @ the 6:00 mark or so: as you list the hardships of OTR, do not forget about the EATS! One cannot just whip up a salad and a plate of spaghetti with Italian Bread and a glass of wine at the end of the day-at least not inexpensively. How about roasting a brisket? BBQ ribs?
    I hate where I live (Chicago area) in more ways than I can list-but one thing I love about this area is the food establishments. Also, part of the lifestyle of OTR is that the truck stops sell that juice, that soda, that candy, at almost double of what a grocery store does. This burns through the $800.00 very quickly; no "per diem" for a truck driver's travel.
    @ 7:00 mark or so: It is non-negotiable-I either get at least 48 consecutive hours off during the seven-day week or I find another company. It takes me 12 of the 48 hours just to get good rest on a real mattress with real HVAC.
    Heh-I read the recruitment cards on the shelves in the truck stop: "Nine days out, two days off" and the like. This is basically working six days out of seven! I would go out of my mind if I had to stay in a sleeper berth 34 consecutive hours and not making any money; can't do it especially with the minimal Ben Franklins I make each week. The only way I could live in a tractor is if I were homeless or if I were clearing 18 Ben Franks per week.

    • @Maoud2
      @Maoud2 4 года назад

      Angry White Male, BINGO!!! You hit the nail on the head young man. This job is definitely starting to feel like its just a last ditch effort for people attempting to have a place to live rather than be homeless.
