Thank you for featuring Roger. Ive loved him since I was 13.Thats never changed. So glad he is more comfortable talking now as opposed to 1984.

Roger appears to be a refreshingly normal person, which one can’t say for all musicians unfortunately. Great interview of a world class drummer! Duran Duran are so damn good!

The Electro Set was so cool. Yeah, Siouxie and the Specials in the grand scheme of things, were not well known in the U.S. Unless, you had 92.7 WLIR. BOOM.

Just discovered your channel and I really enjoyed that! Roger seems to be lovely person. As a newbie Duranie, I feel so bad for previously dismissing them as just an 80's superficial pop band. I have come to realize just how talented they are as musicians, and Simon as a lyricist, and it all started last year with hearing the song DYBIS for the first time. That led me to diving into their catalogue of work. (This week I just discovered the gorgeous Box full o' Honey.)
It's interesting how long time fans have such diverse opinions on certain albums (and guitarists). I think the one benefit of discovering them so late, and not listening to the albums chronologically, is that I have no preconceived expectations and can evaluate their work objectively.
Although in some cases the producers haven't served DD's music as well as it deserves, there is still so much to love on every album (well except Medazzaland). 😊
My three wishes are that they would 1. Do something with the demo songs from astronaut & release Reportage. 2. do an intimate concert video with their deep cuts only and 3. that I'd get to see them in concert.

The popularity of bands like The Specials and Siouxsie and the Banshees depended on the crowd you were hanging out with in the 80s. For me and my friends, they were some of our favorite bands and, I in particular, tried to emulate Siouxsie in my personal style. I went to a Siouxsie concert instead of senior prom and I even got to meet her around 1990! But for the general public, yea, they probably wouldn't know them.

Roger will always be the most down to earth member of Duran Duran. My take from this interview is that Roger's very subtle drumming on their recent albums is due to John telling Roger to play basic drum patterns, which is a shame because Roger's grooves from his floor/kick drum are what inspired me on my style of drumming. Songs such as "Girls On Film", "New Religion", "Is There Something I Should Know?" and "The Reflex" has such great drum patterns but ever since the 2003 reunion tour, and studio albums thereafter, Roger's drumming has been very basic and boring. Roger no longer plays their original songs, in concert, as he used to. He changes the floor/kick drum pattern to a boring 4/4 pattern and it gives his concert performance a too laid back/boring sound. Perhaps Roger needs to re-listen to the original albums and remind himself how his drumming with John's bass grooves was the basis for Duran's rhythmic sound.

Give me a break. In 2003, Roger was 43-year-old, mate & not 23-year-old when he recorded "Is There Something I Should Know?" I didn't do things in my 40s like when I did when I was in my 20s. How about all of those athletes in their 40s doing what they did in their early to mid 20s? Good luck finding them. Even John Taylor, Duran Duran's bassist, stopped playing as if his hand were on fire in 1985, when he was 25-years-old. People's styles change as they get older & because you believe it is "boring" it does it make it reality, thank God. His drumming is solid especially on: Too Bad You're So Beautiful, Northern Lights, As Seen From A Distance, On Evil Beach, Runway Runaway, Being Followed, Anniversary, Girl Panic!, The Man Who Stole A Leopard, Other People's Lives, Pressure Off, Sunset Garage, Butterfly Girl, Only In Dreams, Cinderella Ride, Planet Roaring, Wing, Hammerhead, MORE JOY!, Danse Macabre, Psycho Killer & I can go on.
