    if your WiFi is dead, there is a good chance that the card is replaceable. You might even look in there and find the antenna wires not fully seated. The antenna wires are thin coaxial cables so if you accidentally pull the connector off good luck getting them back on and working. If it does happen there are internally installable WiFi antennas cheap. There are 2 or 3 different size connectors for those and they all look the same so take a picture of the card and have the model number of it on hand if you have any doubts which one they are. These are tricky to connect to the card so if you have any condition that makes you shake at all or even bad eyesight, take it to a computer shop or get someone better suited to help you. These connectors might be as small as one or two millimeters and can be frustrating to connect so if you are impatient or get frustrated easily you may want to get someone to help you.

      Many have M.2 slot for WiFi. I recommend using Intel WiFi card as they are the most reliable. Given that your laptop have regular m.2 slot, you can put in an Intel BE200 otherwise if your m.2 slot have extra notch then Intel AX210 is the max you can put in. They're not expensive either

    My plan was 800mbps (free upgrade from 100mbps) but was only able to use 100mbps as the modem is the main issue. Replaced it but only managed to get it up to 100mbps on my laptop via ethernet port as that's the maximum that my laptop can support plus, my laptop modem is maxed out at 72.2mbps. I tried windows 10 on a brand new Acer Swift 1 and the driver for the Bluetooth was causing issue of cutting out - as soon as I switched to linux mint no more cutting out which tells me that Microsoft is not doing a proper job in testing as I heard the testing they do is in virtual mode not in real time physical mode

Unfortunately the problem is the pc ... in particular the cpu very weak. I have to buy something better. I have discovered this site www.cpubenchmark.net/
      It is impressive how different are cpu performances ... the last cpus are out of this world indeed. This is the cpu in my laptop ... very low score

      @@gino3286 CPU speed has little to no bearing on ethernet speed. The port on your laptop probably only supports 100mbit connection, where as a 3.0 ethernet adapter like this is capable of 1000 mbit. If you only have USB 2.0 ports on your laptop, then you wouldn't be able to take advantage of this adapter.
      But all that has little to do with the CPU.

      @@RavenWindrunner Hi ! thank you very much for your kind and very helpful reply.
      My laptop is an old Lenovo Flex 2-14d ... the laptop has indeed a usb 3.0 port. Could it be a usb ports driver issue maybe ?
      how can i check that ? I will check also this question before switch to a better laptop. From what i understand this one is at the very bottom performance wise. I am sorry because i like its look very very much. And also its touch screen. Thanks a lot again, gino

    • @RavenWindrunner
      @RavenWindrunner 4 года назад

      @@gino3286 I just looked up the specs on your laptop, first off it appears your processor is the AMD E1-2100, not 1200, while it's still fairly low end it is a bit better.
      In regards to your question about the USB ports, your laptop has 2x USB 2.0 ports and 1x USB 3.0, you would need to ensure that the adapter is plugged into the 3.0 to get maximum capabilities.
      There are many possible bottlenecks, if your router or modem has 100Mbit rated ethernet ports, it will be limited by those, if you are using old cat 5 cables (cat 5e and cat 6 are capable of 1000Mbits but anything older is not) it will be limited to 100Mbits max potential. Also these are all ideal circumstances so you will rarely if ever see that level of performance, there will most likely be loss in speed somewhere in the system.
      What internet connection speed do you pay for with your internet provider? Also what speeds are you experiencing when plugged into your laptops built in port?
      If its below 100Mbits, then you will not see any improvement using a gigabit capable ethernet port, the only benefit you would see would be transferring files over the network.

    I would like to get a pair of something to extend USB. I wonder if one coverts it to coaxial similar to MoCA. If you looked into powerline adapters and stuff you may have discovered MoCA would be more likely to give you your full internet speed or close at least. That leads me to wonder if something similar exists to extend a USB connection. That would be for people like me who have coaxial cables already in the wall but not ethernet.

  • @harmony318

    Hey bro, I faced the exact same problem as you faced with the ethernet speed. I researched but couldn't get a concrete understanding of why this is happening. I got two laptops, one with a dedicated ethernet port and the other doesn't have one. When I connected lan to the laptop with a dedicated ethernet port, I got up to 95% of the internet speed which is really good. But when I connected my other laptop with the ethernet to USB adapter, I just got 3% of the internet speed. I used USB 2.0 ethernet to USB adaptor which supports up to 100mbps and connected to ss USB 3.0 port on my laptop. This concluded that the problem is either the ethernet to USB adapter or its compatibility with the USB port. Please let me know if you were able to solve the speed issue. I don't think it has anything to do with a router.

    • @Econoballer
      @Econoballer  3 года назад

      thanks for the thorough description! I think it has a lot to do with USB port compatibility. If you got a usb to ethernet adaptor that was usb 3.0 compatible, then I believe you would see faster speed. you could most likely return the adapter.

      If you want to play via lan with just one friend, you can buy a "crossover" ethernet cable which is designed to be able to talk back and forth between devices. I'm not sure if crossover cables work for regular internet connection.
      If you want to connect more than 2 devices, you need to buy a network switch, and an ethernet cable for each device, all you need to do is power the network switch, and plug in an ethernet cable for each device, then you will be all linked up via LAN. If you want each device to connect to the internet as well, you need to connect the switch to your modem or router.
