I live in Scottsdale AZ and my plants go in the garage in front of a east window for the winter. I do not water from November to late February but when the temps are above 60 during the day I put them out in the sun and bring them in at night. I have them on a rolling restaurant table. Once the growth starts I remove nay shriveled branches and do my spring shaping and repot if necessary. This has been my routine for 6 years and it has been successful. Thanks for the other tips i will use them.
I have loved and grown plants since I was a little girl. Since retiring in Florida I discovered a new love: Adeniums. I Have read everything I can about adeniums. Your program today is the best I have acquired in the three years I have been growing them. Thank you!!
Great info, good sir. Exactly what I’ve been researching. I’m figuring out I should NOT have a desert rose in Alaska. Summers aren’t consistently warm enough
I never really liked them until I saw that first one growing towards its side. So you made me want to get one to add in my personal collection. Thank you very much!
GREAT species profile! I did not understand the part about deciduous or evergreen. So is the Desert Rose a deciduous species or evergreen? And, which pesticides do you recommend rotating each month?
This was the best instructive video , thank you 👍🏻👍🏻 I was lucky enough to find a large desert rose for sale , and it has just started to bud. I didn’t know what or how to feed it , so this really helped.
On the topic of preventing pests; how do you go about spraying the desert rose? Do you spray early in the morning in the shade? Letting it dry before putting it back out into the sun? My Adenium has been pretty touchy with pesticides/insecticides. Usually drops all of its leaves afterwards.
Great video. Have a desert sose. Never knew it is poisoning. I've never fertilized it and it has blossomed beautifully. Thanks for information I have learned
I have been battling mites for over 6 months now. I have been using alcohol but that doesn't seem to be cutting it. You mention that you spray using two products alternating every month. Please share with me what you use to spray them? I love your tips and will apply them.
Question for you. When you are first growing your plant and trying to get its size closer to where you want it for Bonsai, what kind of pot do you use? I have a desert rose that is maybe 4 or 5 years old at this point and would like to potentially try bonsai with it, when it is ready. Thanks!
Hello, just watched your video, very informative, thank you. I have an issue with mine tho, the little buds are turning dark brown n falling off. It has been very dry n warm this month n it's been flowering like crazy....maybe I'm just not watering enough while trying to flower?? Or is it a pest or fungus?
Thanks for the great video. Curious if you have worked with baobabs. If so I would love to see you share what you have learned. I have a few seedlings and am a bonsai hobbyist wondering how to develop them.
When a desert rose is starting to produce a seed pod does this affect how much to water it, fertilize it or is the regualr care fine. Just don't want the seed pod to fail.
So what is better soil your Bonsai soil or the Desert Rose soil with the sand, etc? I enjoy your videos, they are very helpful. From Carol in Frankfort, KY (I do have indoor grow lights to help out.)
@@carolficorilli9768 hi there 👋🏻 I would always choose our soil mix for everything bonsai related. I’m not a big fan of the sand, I feel like it doesn’t percolate, nor dry out evenly enough.
Question I can’t find an answer. I have one that throws out pink curled pointed leaves that eventually grow into a full green leaf that is narrower than my other plants. It’s mature now and doesn’t flower yet all the other plants are going crazy with flowers. Thoughts?
Hi, we love your channel, very informative. I have a question. We live in Darwin in tropical Northern Australia. It is a great climate for desert roses and we have a lot of success with them but our wet season has very heavy rain and in a monsoon, we can have a month of solid rain. Should we be concerned about the plants being exposed to this much rain? It doesn't seem to affect them too much but if we can make the conditions better for them by covering them, would this help in any way or should we not be too worried? I look forward to your reply. Keep on making quality videos and I wish you every success in your business doing something that you love and that you are very passionate and proud of. 👊
Thank you so much for your kind words🙏🌳 That is a lot of rain! If they are in good bonsai soil you might get away with it. Otherwise I would move them undercover after two weeks of rain.
Please advise how to deal with oleander caterpillars in desert roses. I feel they ignore any spray I tried and they eat the leaves leaving my plants looking miserable. I live in Florida. Appreciate your help.
I used to have the same problem, they don’t respond to anything so I picked them off with gloves and tossed them over to a neighbors yard. They never came back 😂
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply I tried this method but probably failed to remove all larva, so they returned hungrier then ever. I took more drastic measures and trimmed all branches and leaves. I hope it will survive.
I live in Sweden and here it seems impossible to get them to flower even in the hottest of summer :( beautiful plant anyway but would be fun with flower :) great video
Probably not enough direct sunlight, mine get about 6-8 hours of full sun each day, I gave a plant that was flowering like crazy to someone but it only gets about 4-5 hours of full sun each day at their house. Once the flowers on the plant dropped it never got another bud, she's had it over a year now.
You talk about bringing them in when it gets under 50F, a couple times you've said 45F, are you talking about the daytime temps or nighttime temps? And are you talking about avoiding prolonged exposure to low temps or just a single day/night? I've got about 75 adeniums, half of them are large, in gallon pots, and those I'm not worried about, the rest are in 8 inch pots and about 6 inches tall. I have the small ones in a cold frame/hoop house but we're going to have several nights in the next 2 weeks when it will get into the 40's at night. Should I bring those indoors on the cold nights or should they be OK in the cold frame? I'm in Clearwater Beach, FL By the way, I just found your channel about 2 weeks ago, thanks for all the good information :)
Just as a follow up, we had 5 nights this week where the low temps were between 37F and 45F and everything survived, just a little browning on the leaf tips of some of the mature plants. It'll be in the upper 70's this week so the plants will get a chance to warm up and for the soil to dry out some before the next round of cold hits. I'd still love to get Jerome's input on this :)

Yes, that is a bit difficult in Alaska. Unless, you have a greenhouse or grow lights inside your house
Are all leaves waxy n shinny? Mine is not.

Excellent!!

@@RackCrossStudio they can be either depending on the climate. If they are in a dry climate they are deciduous. I use Talstar and lucid
I love adeniums. Thanks. Cheers from Ojai California

Early morning before sunrise or after sunset. Use Talstar, and lucid monthly and just rotate though the sprays

To water them do you use tap water or water that has been brita's Purified.

I’m in Florida too and had the same problem. I sprayed with a common bug spray, it killed the worms and didn’t harm the DR.
When is the best time to prune?
Summer time, I have several videos on my channel showing the process if you are interested.
which ones are evergreen and which are the other type? How do you know/
@@carolficorilli9768 so it depends a lot on the climate too. If it is a drier climate they tend to go dormant sometimes even more than once.

How do you get it to grow to the side, Like yours?
I will explain that in next weeks video in detail.:)
I have a video on my channel showing the process of growing a semi cascade desert rose bonsai like his if you are interested.
Do you have a video about the Desert Rose seedlings ?
so, I use the succulent and cactus soil plus perlite for my Desert roses. That I was told to use. Is the Bonsai soil better than the cactus?
Waiting for the answer to this question too!
Do you use rooting hormone for the cuttings?
@@carolficorilli9768 not for desert roses, otherwise yes
I use a systemic insecticide in early spring and again in late summer and so far no bugs.
