The color, the petals, everything about the plant is beautiful. I feel like in the US, people in the south west portion of the country (New Mexico, Arizona) could enjoy this plant.

They are really easy to grow from seed, it's great fun to watch them grow. Takes just a few days for them to germinate, so perfect for impatient people like me, lol.

I have never seen or heard of this plant before, so this was super interesting! Lots of great info on it. Since it likes so much direct sun, I'm guessing it may not do well for me, at least not bloom. But I really enjoyed learning about this plant, thank you! 😊🌸

They do need plenty of fertilizer, I agree. Mine bloom beautifully, despite having to endure a temperate climate. I have them outside in full sun from May/June through to October. I hardly ever repot them, but when I do, it's very exciting - the most interesting growth happens below the soil, and on re-potting a nice new chunk of gnarly caudex gets exposed, giving the plant soooo much character.

@@TheMillennialPlantDad It's not all that impressive, I'm afraid... I only have three reliably flowering plants grown from seed, and another 25 still very small ones also grown from seed.

@@Suadade1983 Do it! It's very easy. Soak the seeds, which look like long grains of rice in a husk, in lukewarm water for at least 3 hours (or overnight). That speeds up the process. Then place them horizontally in moist, water-retaining soil (normal potting soil will do). The seeds need to be just covered, don't press them into the soil too deeply). Keep them in a warm place around 25 degrees C (around 80F). They will germinate within 2-10 days, and already look like mini desert roses :)

Hi Ebuka, I love the color of the flowers of yours, mine is a plain red. I’ve had it at least 25 years, and I’ve finally realized its growth rhythm. I live in east central NJ/USA. During the winter it is indoors in an east window, and seems rather dormant with a few leaves and no growth. I then put it outdoors in semi shade, it wakes up and flowers all summer from the new growth. I’m debating whether to prune some of the longer stems…the trunk is nice and fat. It is not grafted, many on the market are, There is a yellow flowered one that has pink edges,absolutely gorgeous… saw it on Logee’s website a couple years ago. Enjoyed this video a lot! 🤗🌸🌱

Ooooo if only I lived in a warmer climate!!!! I must admit I am a caudex girlie but only tentatively so. My dioscorea elephantipes seedlings are very slowly caudexing! Before I was inspired to buy real caudex plant seeds, I've had this Amaryllis bulb that I've grown so big it looks like a caudex, and the silly little ficus with a stubby gnarled trunk that also looks like a caudex, which I saved from stem rot. I just moved to a new place with more than 2 windows (finally!) so I might even grow some ponytail palms, from seed of course. (There are several things wrong with me, and growing my houseplants from seed does not cure all my ills but helps with most).
CAUDICIFORM!!! That's the word I was thinking of. They're such fun plants, and IG models want to be them soooooo bad. ✨️It girls✨️ all of them, if you ask me.

Hi Maggie . I have no idea how the caudex or trunk aspect of this plant works . Lol I have been told it gets a fatter trunk as it matures, and there are ways you can manipulate and prune to achieve that, I don’t know much about that , I just grow mine for it’s flowers and leaves, chunky trunk or not ☺️

Technically you can propagate from cuttings but I’ve had zero luck doing so . The cutting always always rot. Propagating from seed has the better success rate I’ve been told
