    The audio bug that you mention at the beginning I had experienced under other circumstances, with another RE Engine game; in my case DMC5.
    More specifically, when a friend Screen Shared the PC version of DMC5 to me through Discord, the audio on my end sounded just like what was heard in this video, but it was perfectly fine on my Friend's side.
    We never found a fix, but it hasn't come up for anything else since. So it sounds like a bug inherent to the RE Engine.
    To me it sounds like the game is for some reason trying to send the audio in a Surround Sound format, but it's being received in Stereo.
    If you pay attention, you'll notice that the audio you *can* hear is audio that's played from the side of the screen. So for example, a character who's talking from the left side of the frame. Where as audio that's being played from the centre of the screen, or is otherwise directionless doesn't come through at all. Such as when a speaker is the camera's focal point, or with radio chatter.

  • @luciusliu9417
    @luciusliu9417 7 месяцев назад +30

    My main issue, and I'm not completely like against it, but even so, is the homogenization the the RE franchise with RE7-onwards. I suppose Capcom is going for a Final Fantasy approach where each RE title (brand) going forward will be instantly recognizable like every FF is.
    Also, you've hit the nail on the head at about 7:25- I've never found the words for it. Also, *best RE4R review* I've seen.
    I think the OG Resident Evils were gameplay focused first, and everything else second; the new ones are very much 'narrative/plot' focused (despite the writing being.. what it is). It's probably why the OG ones are so replayable and the newer ones not so much. Like, it makes me think of The Evil Within 2 actually, I *adore* that game, but dread playing through it because I have to sit through set-pieces and cutscenes and whatever nonsense that is between the fun and the story. Something I think, funnily, RE4 OG actually already fixed.
    (Which reminds me of the ending section of RE4r where you have to drag yourself and Ashley to the cure room by moving manually instead of it just being a cutscene. Why did they waste my time? There's nothing lost if this was just a cutscene)

    I think the shooting gallery is straight up awful in the remake. I love the pirate theme, and using the original game's theme for the bonus round is very satisfying. The need to get all of the tokens to complete each challenges checklist is ATROCIOUSLY strict, even with mouse aiming, and with a shotgun or a TMP where the spread is pretty wide, makes it feel unfair with how often you'd accidentally hit the target, but not the token you wanted to hit. And the little key chains being locked behind the coins you mainly get from the gallery checklists is just bullshit.

    It's good, but nothing revolutionary like the original was back in 2005. Feels like pretty much every AAA 3rd person game.

    I like how Capcom's RE Engine titles have been mostly pretty well optimized and configurable, specially on PC ("mostly" because we still get stuff like Village and DRM ruining performance). Still, I wish RE Engine's SSR wasn't so goddamn horrible and Raytracing was actually worth shit. That and having no DLSS sucks.
    About having a hard time hitting enemies: gunplay in RE4R is a mess thanks to the stupid fucking bloom and random bullet deviation. It worked "fine" in RE2R/RE3R, but for RE4R it's just a pain in the ass. The shooting gallery is a chore to get through because more often than not you're relying on luck to hit your target. Having RNG dictate the combat in a game where you're supposed to always be on the move and switching things up is the worst possible design.

I would go as far as saying it’s the greatest remake of any iconic game ever. Now if you wanna say atmospherically the OG is better than I can understand. But the gameplay is an upgrade in every sense.

    A small thought about the RE5 remake: Part of me doubts why they might remake it, especially introducing a new version of Wesker when it's his last appearance. But another part of me that's curious about the potential shot they have at utilizing a past interpretation of Re5 from the early concept trailer back in the day.

    Honestly, the main issue I have that they still refuse to fix is how gyro aiming feels.
    Now I would say that I find it fantastic that they even included the option. Not a lot of 3rd party devs would include it in sony ports cause the xbox versions won't have it. Though it is better than aiming with the thumbstick, it still doesnt feel as good as it should.
    How the quake games gyro aiming feels or using 3rd party software like using steam to bind the gyro in a playstation or switch controller to a mouse cursor feels so much better cause it's just the raw input. Gyro aiming really doesn't need extra systems to make it feel better. In fact the "assists" makes it worse feeling

    Regardless of if its success is due to having a cheat sheet, this game made me realize that modern AAA gaming can still be incredibly fun.
    That they can use all the new hardware and options to make gameplay that is tight and amazing but expanded past what was available back in the day.
    I still love the original and replay it but the remake could do things it just couldn't. Most game companies just choose not to make these types of games and instead be bloated and boring slogs to pad game time.

    Good review, although I have to interject at 21:00 when you say Ada's DLC felt 'stitched together', or a 'greatest hits'; you gotta go back and play the original Separate Ways again. Cuz her campaign was always a bunch of stitched together setpieces from the base game, with even less narrative to guide her actions.
    What Capcom have instead done here is given her some of Leon's iconic moments from the OG, to craft her own actual adventure where she feels like she is actually involved, and has motives. She gets to be a more direct participant in the story, and thus makes the game feel more whole, rather than Ada feeling 'stapled on' like she was in Separate Ways / Assignment Ada.

      To me it was much more fun to speedrun the original. The game design was consistent so if you got good at the game and learned the steps to take you can execute things with extreme precision. The laser sight sucked in this game. It actually made it harder to aim in a lot of circumstances because it was hard to see the dot. The way the original game handled the laser sight is by having a solid red line from the gun to the dot you aim at. The remake has a "realistic" laser that doesn't have a solid line throughout, mostly just the dot on target. The game in general just has a lack of visual clarity in the attempt of chasing "realism"
      Also, the laser is only available on like 3 guns, not even all handguns

    Facts about remakes, man. I'm getting sick and tired of it.
    People keep saying "Capcom should remake DMC 1, 2, 3 and 4" and I don't understand where the fuck that mindset is coming from.
    Literally what would you gain out of trying to turn DMC2 into a good game, as opposed to just making an all new one?
    The fact that they could reuse Arius?
    Yeah that's certainly an impeccable character the fans couldn't get enough of

    • @angellara7040
      @angellara7040 7 месяцев назад

      What a weird thought process, remakes have a habit of expanding characters and motivations, hell re4make actually has lore on the enemies. Dmc 1 is practically a different genre than the rest of the series and people have been wanting a dmc 3 remaster or remake for years now with rumors and hearsay being around before the re2 make

    • @DestinySpider
      @DestinySpider 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@angellara7040 Yes, but again tho. What would they gain from taking DMC2, and remaking it? All that would result in is that they are making an all new game, which instead of giving them as much creative freedom as they like, had to constrain itself to including all the stuff that's really bad. Sure, they could make the infected chopper a more compelling bossfight.
      But would you really want that?
      Or wouldn't it just be cooler to make a new game which has some kinda other boss that is somehow tech-related and shoots missiles?
      DMC1's mechanics being practically unrecognizable compared to 3 onward is true, and there definitely is a case to be made for DMC1's story being a big nothing burger, which has the potential to be turned into something a bit more compelling (Like the part where Vergil dies is very important "to the narrative of this series", but the game barely even has Dante react.
      Also Kamiya Dante is just nothing like Itsuno Dante.
      And yet still. I don't see a reason for why it would be needed or how the benefits of a remake would outclass an all new DMC game. If it's the vibes you're missing for example, they could still totally just... have said new game feature one or a few levels set in a spooky castle, and playing up the horror elements a bit.
      idk, if I wasn't a lazy bum I'd make a youtube vid pitching the idea for a DMC that's just random disconnected jobs Dante did over the years. Endless fun possibilities
