the fact that the room wasnt packed shows how many people missed out on one of the best drummers there, how lucky to watch frost give lessons on how he drums then to chill and talk with him afterword..
Frosts playing really embellish the guitars. He plays for the music. People who don't listen to his bands probably can't hear it but I hear the guitar going along with it in my head
Some comments here are laughable. People criticising his technique or saying his blast beats are weak (which is not true) Frost's greatest virtue as a drummer is not his speed or his endurance. If you listen closely Frost is a drummer who despite the extreme nature of the music he plays, has a very soulful playing, full of originality and finesse (yes, finesse), he's very creative and is always adding different stuff to his style. He also plays with a lot of detail and is a master of controlling the dynamics of the songs he plays in. He's more than the relentless drummer we all know he is. Listen with attention to those Satyricon albums and you'll find yourselves respecting him even more. Cheers
I have no idea where you're getting all of these unique characteristics from lol. I am a fan first and foremost. So don't get me wrong. His endurance is unbelievable and he does have an identifiable playing style. But to call him creative or soulful or groovy or even technical, is just completely untrue. He is just fucking fast, brutal, simplistic and militant. Which is perfect for Black Metal. But his cymbal work is really terrible and his fills are totally remedial. You can really hear it when he plays the slow stuff. I love him and his intensity. But he is no god. Not even close.
jamdwhi from listening to Satyricon's records. Listen I know it sounds crazy, he's obviously not a super refined drummer I know it, but I'm talking about his feel for the songs, the way we builds stuff, the way he changes the dynamics, how he's a song first type of drummer. We can sit here and talk about how incredible is Minneman or Mangini or Baard Kolstad, etc, but that's not the point what I'm saying is that Frost is not as simplistic as it seems. He's more than just a fast brutal drummer.
It's actually a real physical thing though, having a shirt on kinda adds friction to your arm movements, most drummers wear a loose singlet or not shirt at all.
He's one of my favorite drummer, together with Nils 'the Dominator Fjellstrom from Dark Funeral, and of course Hellhammer from Mayhem. Hail Black Metal
Frost makes it look easy. Any pro makes it look easy. I hear drummers who play for this many years build up muscle groups different to non drummers because it's downward energy focus as opposed to lifting against gravity. His core strength would be outrageous. But I'm certain his technique is on point also. He seems like a pretty chilled guy also. Only by what one sees in interviews. I don't know him. But I'm a huge fan of his works.
I saw 1349 live in NYC a few years back, I was lucky enough to be backstage and saw the show 4 feet behind Frost's drumset. After that experience I completely stop reading a/o reacting to any a-hole hating comments, doubts or opinions on how bad this dude plays. He is in the top 5 Black Metal drummers of all time for a reason.
Not a fan of the music of this genre. But this guy can certainly play. The combination of notes is not hard, it's the endurance to play at these speeds with conviction that takes a long time to develop. Whatever style of music a drummer plays, this style of extreme speed should be in his/hers arsenal. Great job, Frost!
Without the context of the music, his pedal work is even more impressive. I cant fathom how much practise and self discipline this requires to get right.
Why that obsession on comparing drummers? Kollias? Paoli? of course they are awesome metal drummers. I think it´s stupid when people believe this a fucking competition, it´s art, it´s music, and I have a great relationship with all drumers that I know, and when we jam together we are not saying stupid things like: I´m faster than you, I´m better than you, my technique is better than yours... fuck that shit.
LC Yannick Campuzano I love frost,s drumming, Hellhammers drumming, Phil rud drumming, Tommy Lee, Mickey dee, Nick Menza, Bill ward, and many more, i totaly agre with you.
The difference is that Kollias and Paoli uses triggers and Frost doesn't. The only one that can match Frost in terms of stamina and precision is Nils "Dominator" Fjellström (seen live in the backline during a concert - jazz tecnique on black metal patterns). There are lots of drummers good as Hell in the world, but Frost is a perfect mix between tecnique and genetic attitude for the instrument hardly replicable. He's like the Buddy Rich of the extreme metal.
Frost uses triggers live same as any other drummer who hits those BPMs in a huge live setting. Kollias, Roddy, Mounier, Axenrot...all these dudes can play without triggers if they need to, they're all at the pinnacle of speed and stamina.
This is surreal. There at, like, a Courtyard Marriott. Every drummer in the audience's dreams are both coming true and being totally crushed watching this other-worldy display of insane talent. Did they cart in some brownies for the afternoon break?
This man is a fucking machine gun at the drum. Your hand style/technique is really very awesome for the genre. The best drummer in the black metal, actually.
Dark side from mgla is bringing some interesting stuff to the table. Check out the "exercises in futility V" drum cam footage that's floating around. His cymbal work is on another level.
*Dumbest "drum clinic" ever* *It's ok being a "Black Metal" drummer..but...? any explanations?, theory?, musical rudiments? or just beating the drums as a nonsense?* *BTW he is doing exactly what Pete Sandoval did 30 years ago.*
+jay edwards well, you can't argue that watching a dude hammering blasts without hearing the musical context might not appeal to everyone. you don't need to be a black metal hater for that.
Frost is an excellent extreme metal drummer, no doubt about that. But you're talking about Kollias. HE is the one that can't be matched in terms of endurance, volume and precision in the extreme metal scene.
What do you mean his blast technique is bullshit? He uses moeller which is wrist blasting. Id also say his hand stamina is pretty epic as well as Frosts.
Are you referring to his usage of Bomb Blasts rather than single footed traditional blast beat? If so, he probably prefers to use that technique for better sound since he is using double bass drums.
What most people fail to get with Frost is that, like Gene Hoglan, he's an extreme metal drummer with an actual sense of groove. That's why he was able to still be interesting in Satyricon once Satyr decided it wasn't going to be metal anymore but more like rock. However I still prefer his metal albums, especially Rebel Extravaganza, the perfect balance between technical and groovy. At times it's just pure apocalypse, but sometimes it's pure headbanging groove. On Volcano, there was a lot of groove too, like on Fuel for Hatred, or Repined Bastard Nation. After that it was mostly rock/metal rather than black metal and it just didn't do it for me. 1349 is still good, but it's old school, it doesn't do anything new. I listen to it once in a while, like Tsjuder, but I'm still looking for the next Deathspell Omega.
Drums must be one of the hardest instruments to play since you gotta have an insane amount of feeling for rythm and do lots of movements at different speeds with at the same time with both of your hands/arms and your feets.
@@rupe82 that's a fact. I play drums (pretty well), bass (average) and guitar (begginer/intermediate) and all of them have un different ways as phisically demanding. Forearms also heart when downpicking at 220 BPM lol
the fact that the room wasnt packed shows how many people missed out on one of the best drummers there, how lucky to watch frost give lessons on how he drums then to chill and talk with him afterword..
Totally unplugged, no triggers. Impressive👏
Frosts playing really embellish the guitars. He plays for the music. People who don't listen to his bands probably can't hear it but I hear the guitar going along with it in my head
Is he playing actual songs? I thought its impro

Struggling to hear it... ;(
this comment makes me cringe so hard... he's not that unique how you think he is, and your descriptions fits some balazs pandi lel

If you want to hear groove, personality and character go listen to Marco Minnemann!
jamdwhi from listening to Satyricon's records. brilliant! if he puts a shirt on he losses his superpowers i've heard
It's actually a real physical thing though, having a shirt on kinda adds friction to your arm movements, most drummers wear a loose singlet or not shirt at all.
Frost feels more comfortable without a shirt, let him do what he wants
...and with Patronbelt he is 10bpm faster.
Only Americans make these comments thank you
Dudes got the physique. Let em sort it.
This is only a 6 minutes video and the guy is capable to do a whole concert ... Amazing
He did the same blast beat the entire time
what a savage, makes me tired and old feeling just watching him, he is basically an extreme athlete
Have you tried crack
He's one of my favorite drummer, together with Nils 'the Dominator Fjellstrom from Dark Funeral, and of course Hellhammer from Mayhem. Hail Black Metal
Yessir! And dont forget Inferno from Behemoth and the legendary dumming on "Storm of the Lights Bane" done by Ole Öman!
wait.... why the fuck are there empty seats?!
few are worthy
fuckyeah!
THAAAAAAAAANK YOU!!!!
It was too cold that day for venturing out the house.

Wherever that show was I was probably there \m/
Was that at the Nokia theater with aborted, necrophagist, suffocation and carcass show?
Who tf says he's a bad drummer, hes a brilliant drummer
Saw him recently on Satyricons final tour out here in Australia and he is one hell of a drummer.
I am so glad I got to see him live. Not an easy thing for him to enter the US, given his past record.
No one is perfect, but curious what is on his record....drumming too damn good?
I was wondering about that. Who did he assault?
He can walk off after a full show with 1349 without even breaking a sweat, I'm out of breath just looking at him on here.!!
One of the best drummers for sure. A total beast.
Wow that speed increase from between 3:14 to 3:16, jeez and for the record his blasts aren't weak, you can hear the power behind them
Sounds like when i accidentally put my toolkit in the clothes dryer. Fukn awesome that is🤘
Frost sounds like an automatic rifle 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Hail to the true Norweigian Black Metal
1 of the best drummers in black metal ! That show drum lesson is unique
Pure Machine just a pleasure to watch.
Love his drumming in the song Atomic Chapel
one of my favorite drummers. In live he is perfect
When he is blasting like crazy and playing those fills I think he is playing "manifest" by 1349. Insane energy.
Deeeooooo 😱😱😵 he's a monster! and I had the pleasure to hearing him live in concert few years ago 😊😁🤘
Frost is a beast.
Dominator is better
+Enoc Jordison
Dominator is a beast as well.
***** Dominator is a fucking monster
+Enoc Jordison yeah especially in Myrkskog. I like them both equally. Trym as well.
3:01 to 3:17 transition speed is super epic !!! Still in 2020. In fact it’s timeless.
Absolutely... still in 2023 🤘🤘
Frost & Hellhammer are my favorite BM drummers, both are not human.
They are the best
also Nick Barker
+ Trym
Aggressor is by far the best bm drummer ever listen to the dodheimsgard demos with him in it insane.
Don’t forget Horgh from Immortal
He has such a nice sounding voice

I heard he took lessons from Lars himself.
@@doubledare84527 lol, as a fan of his I`d like to make a snarky comeback, but that was a good one xD
The power of black metal❤
Practise and focus. Just keep going.

Always gotta respect the talent these black metal guys have.
@B. Schmidt depends really, it's a lot of speed and endurance but you can play very basic stiff. Mainly all chords and switches between em
I mean, this is fucking mind blowing
It's amazing how control perfect the tempo when the speed is soo fast
how awesome for the future of black metal drummers..hes definitely a grandfather of the Black Metal world..so ETERNAL HAILZ!
awesome. all of it was bad ass. thank you
3:15 is precisely what I worship about his playing
I love the speed increase, when I first saw this video I was HOLY SHIT hahahaha WTF
He is a machine
que suerte la tuya de poder verlo en vivo.buen video
Daaaamn, dude's a machine🤘

Nils Dominator Fjellstrom ☝️

Frost just teaching how to drum at a normal speed

True black metal drummer of all time
Great video thank you
How on earth does this have a single Dislike, much less 9 of them?? What is wrong with you weirdos?
it's exactly what I thought..
probably just black metal haters..
fuck'em
+jay edwards
well, you can't argue that watching a dude hammering blasts without hearing the musical context might not appeal to everyone. you don't need to be a black metal hater for that.
Justin Bieber fans.
None can match this guy at what he does. Blasting all wrist at 250 bpm with this endurance and volume is inhuman.
Nils Dominator Fjellstrom is a monster as well..

Eye candy for us ladies lol.

Frost's feet are a natural metronome.
The king of drumming

Must admit he is a true fucking beast of a drummer once in a lifetime. I respect him loads but he is a truly strange man when you meet him.
More cowbell!

Some empty negative comments here, The man is a fuckin monster behind a set, he excels in what he does.

OLD SCHOOL BLACK METAL 1994-1995 !!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Ferocious
Great drummer
Are the people in the audience supposed to be learning, or just in awe...
Spencer Miller i think they payed just to see him play
If you look closely - he has a similar Shoulder motion to Flo Mounier and Mike Mangini when blasting at speed.
Beast
No one can blast like him!! Insane speed!!!
Dominator blasts faster.
Gran resistencia!!
Anybody knows what kind of technic is he using by double bass drum patterns? It looks very interesting ;)
Damn...
Number one is Frost

+ILuciferi Nile is way better than that shit...
No way

1:05 is that Chasing Dragons? Fantastic drumming..
Frost is in my top 3 drummers of all time.
1. Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan (Avenged Sevenfold)

dónde fue esta clínica y en qué año?
Cool video but I was hoping he would play some blast beats
With 2xspeed this is too funny.
