The fact that Fable 2 never got a PC port is nothing short of criminal.

I remember in Fable 1 there is a skill that allows you to replace your HP bar with your mana bar. So enemies can't damage you until they deplete your mana. As a result, I made a character that didn't level up any physical skills (thus was quite frail looking) and put everything into magic and archery. The result was an unkillable old man character that couldn't swing a hammer but could one shot everything in the game with a crossbow.
Speaking of bows, I also remember that bow damage in Fable 1 was based off of how long you held the button down. From what I recall, there is no cap, as I have fond memories of friends and I listening to songs on the radio while holding the button down the entire time, then releasing it after several minutes to deal massive bow damage. Good times.

I had a roommate that would buy fable (it was new at the time), play through it, and then sell it to gamestop. Then about a month later would buy a used copy, beat the game and resell it. It made no sense, but he wouldn't listen to me when I told him to just keep the game.

I've played Fable 1 about a hundred times over the long years probably, but I haven't played it in the last 6 or 7 years. It's one of my all time favourites and I was 11 when it released, got it from a friend as a christmas gift that year. Over the years, the more I played it the more I was convinced that the game was a Real Estate simulator with a story on the side & RPG elements. I spent so much more time planning murders in order to free up homes to buy and rent than I spent gearing up and powering up my character. If say you've spent 100 hours playing the game, you've probably spent 80 to 85 of those hours being a cutthroat real estate agent and the rest of the time finishing the story, because it wasn't long.

While 2 and (definitely) 3 don't hold up as well, I still enjoy revisiting them on occasion. But 1 is a game I'll always go back to.

I had quite a similar memory of the Fable trilogy (i.e. very fond memories of the first, not so much of the sequels), but was quite surprised upon replaying recently to find just how much more I preferred the second game when separating nostalgia.
The third was basically as I remembered, but with better music than I gave it credit for.

This was a childhood gem back in the day, it’s such a base (and I say that to mean…idk foundational?) experience for a child on the typical hero’s journey. I love that “hero” is more of a neutral job in this game, instead of a good guy title exclusively.

The Lost chapter was one of the game I replayed the most in my childhood so it will forever be in my heart, I still somewhat enjoyed 2 and 2 but I felt they lost too much in the variety I'd mechanics and the changing atmosphere compared to the weird whimsy of TLC.

I just replayed Fable 2 recently, like 2 months ago, and it was a lot worse than I remembered. You have infinite mana and no cooldown on skills, so you can just basically spam AoE stun attacks like Lightning and chain CC all enemies, making the game trivial. The exploration and quests were very meh, the interactions with NPC more like a chore. Honestly the third game wasn't much better in that regard. Just button mashing non-sense and a super simplified good vs. evil story. I still think the first game is the best, but even that one has issues.
Let's see if the new Fable is any good. I'm not holding my breath.

If they made an HD remake of Fable 2 I bet it would sell well today. It was such a fun short RPG that has a lot of sim things that are trending now. Buying and decorating your house, getting a wife and family and a kick ass funny story and side stories. Completing Fable 2 100% is actually fun and not a chore.

I remember hearing Fable was way too casual compared to the other RPGs I'd played at that point. But when I got into it a few years later it was actually quite solid. I didn't mind the simplicity of it.
Fable 2 and 3 I also had heard bad things about, but I had some free time a few years later and they appealed to me in quite a similar way. But then I found it more fun to get to buy houses than being worried about the game being too easy in any way.

F1 & 2 are solid and good fun. Cheeky British humor, a more classical English fairy-tale style fantasy compared to the more sprawling mythos that Heroic fantasy draws from. The series always had its warts, and 3 onward showed it was growing from the wrong fundamentals. Fable (PlayGround Games) looks to capture the quintessence but from a more mature and fully realized leap forward from the thematic roots of the early games. Pretty excited to visit this series a new, but not really wanting to return to the old titles.

Never played Fable as a kid. Interesting that it has so much depth to its systems! I remember that a friend who had it, used to praide it to the skies. I thought he might have exaggerated a little, but I might be wrong. The art style made it look more like an action adventure game.
If you need to fill a spot in your schedule with a short title,I'd recommend citizen sleeper. A short narrative rpg that I enjoyed, and I believe that you, and the audience might like.

I agree that XP orbs are probably too plentiful once you learn the system, but if you resist the urge to just spend everything and commit hard to a specific build or theme, each playthrough feels much more distinct and interesting.

and aside for differences between original and final edition (which i'm not going to list since i don't like to be dependant on wikis) there were few things that i never liked
    1. clothes and tattoos affecting your morality (crime against fashion is a horrible idea)
    2. after using cheats i have discovered that there are many tattoos in game that are not available for player and that many sets are not complete
    3. you can romance almost every random npc and get it's clone for marriage but among actual characters there is only ONE evil option and absolute ZERO of good
    4. one door set that to open is mandating evil romance choice (since there is no alternative)
    5. katana that looks like meat cleaver (that hurts)
    6. plate armor set without helmet
    7. some main story choices are completely meaningless because it the end they are all going to leave (one way or the other)
    8. ending don't give much in terms of satisfaction

Still, I haven't played Fable II since then and I've played III on the 360. F1 was pretty aces, but F2 remains the best of the 3 games so far. Just sucks it's so difficult to play in 2024.

I liked all three Fable games for different reasons. The first because it made you feel like a hero. The second because it really smacked that feeling right out of you. The third because I enjoyed the inventory change and it made the game feel like a bigger world. That said I kinda dropped off playing the DLC of the third because it turned into a grind fest which isn't really what the games have ever been about.

bought anneversery edition because I've heard a lot of good things about this game and then met with wobbly camera which gave me serious motion sickness for hours. I hope there is way to fix it

I love games where you decisions actually have consequences. I find that way more immersive than anything else.

One of the funier parts of the game is that bald haircut is coded as very atractive. Now take a wild guess how game main designer, Peter Molymeux looks like :P :D ....

Look at that. I was searching through some older rpgs I didn't play and I was thinking about Fable series. Funny thing this modern gaming which is all about sales will make younger generations to play old gems even before remakes and their greed will propel some indie studios as well. I enjoy a lot of modern games but all bs with microtransactions and pre- orders is tedious to watch.

if I recall correctly, the footage comes from Fable Anniversary? Are you also planning to also take a look at the original version of this game (The Lost Chapters)?

This made me want to play fable 2 on my series x. That ended quickly after I started playing it. Not sure why but it seems to be running the x box 360 settings. Feels like it's running at 15fps. I was getting dizzy no lie.

I used to play this ad nauseam with BG EE when I was a kid. I believe i even broke the CD (I had the Lost Chapters Edition BTW) making it unplayable.
Also yes Fable 2 and Fable 3 were pretty much dumbed down in many things, especially on the RPG side and the Alignment/Reputation/Outfit side. Pity I was really into it. Also yes, I bankrupted Albion too.

Loved fable 1, hated fable 2, felt like fable 3 was great all the way till the ending that you could trivialize with lute hero, Making me list it as a game with great potential that missed the mark.

Fable is probably the most British game thats ever been made. Thats what a worry about in the reboot. Will they stick to that humour or try open it up for other audiences. If they do can they do that successfully.
Personally the second game was my favourite but i know different people prefer the first. Nobody loves the second half of the third.
