Best I did over the past few years was a 2 month abstinence from alcohol. Was pretty happy about that, definitely felt better. But yep, one day I picked up 'just one beer' from the market, and from there on it was downhill again. I do take breaks still but for me total abstinence is the goal because alcohol is not my friend.

Thanks Kevin! I quit for three years but started drinking again November 2019 I never really get drunk but I tend to drink anywhere from two to six beers almost everyday. Right back where I started before I quit. Looking forward to being alcohol-free again. On day 4 for right now but I think the experience I had from the last time I quit will help me. Adding in a fitness schedule and feeling confident overall. Alcohol sucks!

I gave up New Years eve. We are now into February and I could not agree more with the points raised here. I sleep better and think clearer and am slowly getting energy back. I should be really fed up because I am out of work at the moment due to redundancy but I am not. I am very hopeful and like he sadi thinking clearer about what the possibilities are. I cannot believe how much alcohol held me back and never want to touch another drop. 39 years a functioning alcoholic but I honestly feel those days are done. I am still going to listen to these vlogs though because you can never really say never and I will take all teh encouragement and wisdom I can to stay sober. Thanks for your work

Great video mate. I'm into my 6th week alcohol free. In the past I have gone without for weeks/months, but it was always my intention to return to drinking, and so I did, with no real gain. And now, I really don't want it to be part of my life anymore. I'm going through difficulties at work and not being able to sleep much due to my young family, (up in the night, responsibilities in the morning etc), and although this is dragging me down, I know it won't last forever. I keep telling myself 'thank god I'm not dealing with hangovers and drink related anxiety whilst dealing with this!'. Things will change. I am proud of the new direction I have taken. And I am strong enough to be myself, to find new ways, to manage friendships traditionally centred around alcohol at social events, and most importantly to really back myself that this is what I want to do with my life.

I am a recovering alcoholic 315 days. I noticed that after 2 weeks in treatment I was able to start to feel feelings of happiness and clarity for the first time. After 30 days of treatment upon coming out it was difficult to set a new routine, especially not drinking when I got off of work. I ridiculously believed for a long time that drinking after work was actually what kept me sane because "it decompressed me." I actually found out that it was a lie, come to find out that my general anxiety was massively reduced absent alcohol. There were a lot of tools that I used to get stable such as the medication vivitrol, anti depressant and anti anxiety medication especially Trazadone which helps me sleep well at night. AA, Big Book study, and therapy. I noticed that putting all those tools to work and spending my first 30 days in treatment made me be able to not white nuckel it. The previous 2 times I went to treatment I immediately started drinking again because I had not set up a plan to keep those tools after I was out.

Rachel, it was everything you mentioned. Two days ago I was in AA meeting in Rīga. I had so much discomfort(both physical and mental) that I didn't even stay till the end of the meeting. It seemed to me that I NEED SOME DRINK. It was cravings and self delusional thoughts together. I thought- I can drink this one more time. It ended with 1,5 litres of vodka in my throat, my girlfriend wants to dump me(because she hates seeing me drunk, although I was never aggressive or unfaithful). I love her and for this moment the only thing that can keep me from drinking is the thought that I can still save this relationship:(
