I remember these times very well. As I remember, the Westside Sharps survived in Melbourne into the eighties. The Journal should prove to be a great cultural volume and I look forward to finding it and reading it. Peace.
my cousin was in the thomastown sharps back in the days i remeber going to the acdc concert at the bowl wen we get there travlling in the red rattler TRAIN we reach the city we all get of (150) of us walkint down the streets the poeple would look and stare O_O one guy that looked at one of us got a belting ALL I CAN SAY IS WE FKN RULED peace to thoise that are no longer alive RIP.
Hey I really love all these images and footage online about Ozi Sharps. Can I ask a question to the more enlightened peeps on here? With Australia's chapter of Sharpies culture, does SHARP stand for SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice? After watching a movie called This is England I am really interested to learn more.
Great to see someone wrote a book on that time in Melbourne, good one Julie. I now live in N.Z. and will getting the Library at Uni to get it so I can read it, if you were around at that time in the 70's it was a interesting decade to say the least. Good on you Julie for writing the book.
Sorry Jimistixxx, We were non political. The Sharp name is hinted in the frame of the jumpers. Connies was the brand. Like the Mods before us, we dressed "Sharp". Julie I enjoyed your book, I will allow for licence and your time frame only had a slight overlap. I kicked on 75-78. You might remember me as Bayside Bowie
sharpies had their own special culture, not really connected with skinhead movement in uk,but they dressed like british bootboys and listen some simillar music (glitter-rock for example)
Black dragon were way after the sharpies. They didn’t exist until after the new subdivision was built west of Pascoe vale rd coolaroo. So in 1974 they did exist.
