As a Telugu speaker, I have never truly been able to enjoy Telugu cinema. Patriarchy is so deeply entrenched, that most movies make for difficult viewing. However, another common trope that runs hand in hand with the patriarchal representation in Tamil/Telugu cinema is the poor boy-rich girl one. Where the poor man who doesn't have much but his honour and charm is able to win over the girl with the rich father. And I think that's the central idea in a mass movie. However, I still am unable to understand the logic behind the persistent stalking.
Also, even in the newer movies like sarileru neekevaru and pushpa, the emphasis on the man's manhood (magatanam) is overpowering. I really think scriptwriters need to take more risks and movie away from these regressive ideas. I wonder why we are unable to make a mass movie that is super entertaining and yet forward thinking.
Film makers and the audience need to move away from the idea of the hero as the action hero+charming lover+perfect son+fearless frontrunner. This idea of a man is crazy and we as an audience need to stop expecting to see such a man on-screen
the actors in southern movies playing unemployed rowdies is because most of their fanbase is exactly that and by showing the rowdies having pure heart the fans can think they’re pure of heart as well
''Rowdies aka unemployed individuals who have nothing going on in their lives but their heart is at the right place'' GET EM ! I hate characters like this especially when the movie is trying to make you like the hero but you just can't
At this point i just gave up on telugu movies as a telugu audience. If there is any recent film that I liked it is only "mahanati". Don't even get me started on the male gaze of the RRR movie 😂 and the boys glorifying it.
I've ALWAYS hated Govinda movies and never understood why he has such a big following or what sort of appeal it has. Very cheap and nasty trash masquerading as 'humour'.
In Vivaah, Seema constantly pointing out her daughter's dark complexion is unfortunately what many in our societies do. But what was wrong was that the makers never made time to show Chutki's character move past her mom's insecurity and taunts and achieve something in life. Bollywood always just shows a problem and not the solution.
@@Harshavardhan-nc1dw I totally agree. There is absolutely nothing wrong in following sanskaars and values. And listening to parents or making them happy. My only issue with the movie was that Chutki deserved a good story
The central theme of chutki's character was about her complexion. Honestly her mother's reactions/comments are common (not normal though) but it shouldn't have stuck around it.

Body shaming of the little boy in bhool bhoolaiyaan 2 was horrible to watch! It's their regressive mindset ofcourse! Thank you for pointing out this one when everyone else laughed taking it as a joke!
Sadly, the sexual mistreatment and emasculation of men in Indian films is still seen as something comical. The consent of men is not considered a topic worth discussing.
Well that's true jammy. The ideology that the unemployed, rowdy, and sometimes sexist guys showcased as a hero in South Indian movies (predominantly tamil/telugu movies). Because that's what the audience have been fed with for years. The audience fancy such characters and what more can have a mass audience in theaters than a hero, who has obsolutely a reckless behavior, stalking a girl/doing anything offensive. It is often seen as "mass entertainer". I am not generalizing but Indians as audience need to improve. They are slowly improving. And it shouldn't stop
Stalking and forcing love until the other person falls in love in them is a go to concept of films. I must agree with your views on Nenu Local film, being a south Indian myself.
I think when it comes to Vivah, Choti's character was more of a reflection of how Indian mom's relate their child's complexion with matrimony prospects, rather then Barjatya selling racism.
You said it right. That's what I thought while watching the last segment. Barjatiya did not encourage racism he merely showed the audience what prevails in most of the Indian families. And he might have deliberately made choti's character so cheerful to emphasize on her inner personality even more. Just my opinion.
This is one of the best series of videos in RUclips IMO. I mean, these moments are such eye openers to me. So many scenes that we watched without knowing how horrible they were
Most film makers don't want to use their brains to create content as they know the mass is like that. The kind of people who watch and make cringe content on Tiktok are the target audience
@Morgan Stark 💙 I do write poems and short stories. My funda is simple I am not here to impress people or seek their validation. I write because I have stories in me which demands to be told. I simply act as a medium.
@@Mere_Lafz Isn't that excuse for writers and directors to create because mass is like that. Those films only reflect writers and directors intelligence. Sure we can say audience demands filmmakers supply, but filmmakers are the same as mass and unfortunately good writers are ignored.

Thank you for pointing out the cringe in Telugu commercial films. I know it's really trendy to watch South Indian films these days but as someone who has enjoyed them from a very young age, it pains me to see people glorifying men who are creepy af. I love these movies but people here in their sudden performative wokeness about regional cinema seem to ignore how we women have to look past and ignore a lot of bullshit if we wish to enjoy a commercial movie. One of the reasons I feel Indian men especially love hyping KGF, Pushpa, Arjun Reddy, etc. is because of how relatable these men look - they're not clean cut, white washed, dapper men like in most bollywood commercial pot boilers but they look like your everyday Indian men, which is a good thing in my book. BUT, the Indian men in the audience seem to really enjoy the female subjugation that most often than not comes with the package. The heroine will be light skinned, pretty with a mind of her own but then she will ofcourse submit to the hero's dashing arrogance sooner or later (exception being Bahubali, where even though Tamanna's makeover scene was disrespectful to women in general, Prabhas' character had some semblance of respect for her still, I don't know, he just didn't start out as arrogant as Pushpa). Even the female audience in general doesn't see the problem in having little kids emulate these men in reels and youtube shorts, and that's really disturbing. I know a lot of people, especially men are going to disagree with me. Some may even come up with "I am a woman and I disagree". It's okay, do it. My feelings are still valid.
Agree with you. I grew up watching Bollywood movies and seen it change in many aspects, and not change at all in others. Fiction won't be a problem if the public aren't so obsessed with emulating their favourite actors' behaviour in real life, or how it downplays serious issues like rape for comedy. Sadly that is not the case.
This is something new , i liked kgf 1 not 2 though because of his journey and the gripping screenplay and the over the top action sequences.... But never thought people like them because they are unclean lamao 😂
It's not just audience, director of arjun reddy for instance justifies his reason for his characters and the relationship. For him that is the way it is so that's the type of filmmakers are getting their projects greenlit in bollywood or telugu. If the filmmaker is fine with it the audience shouldn't have a problem and just accept it. The same movie given the issues that are universal could've been portrayed in a mature way but the onus is on the filmmaker at the end of the day.
Yaar but don't you feel that Vivah didn't really glorified fairness, rather highlighted the expectation of fair skin as a necessary evil because the Chhoti's mom who wanted her to be fair and all wasn't really shown as a positive character that one roots for... So the writers did know how they were incorporating these nuances.
i completely agree but lemme play the devil's advocate here ...i think the issue is when even after highlighting the society's evil...they pretty much do nothing about it. no realisation or growth of any sort.
@@froggywithaheart I think the take away from Vivaah and particularly the Shahid-Amrita post fire accident situation would be that only, that you could be with supposed flaws or not, or not fit in the society's Beauty standards, but true love would look beyond all those things. Yes, the makers could work on Chhoti's arc in a better way, but I don't think the film promoted fairness leading you to a partner or a successful career in anyway. And thankgod for that.
How dare you include Vijendra Varma in this series. It is the best comical film ever made by balakrishna. Honestly meme pages still refer to this movie when they are out of content. Pure gem 😂🤣
4:27 I am a teluguite.. And i also want to know 🤷♀️ How does stalking & harassing women be heroic (I hope i am using a right word ) And when I ask people be like "Oh common it's just a movie why do you have to be this serious?"
I think that is the reaction we all get when we point out something nonsensical cringeworthy scenes to others. But, what we as audience has to understand is that, We have to be serious since its a Movie, showcasing such things to every age and gender which have power to stimulate thought process. Its actually very serious!
The fact is that Hindi audience rejected stalking and harassment a long time back whereas Telugu/Tamil/Kannada audience laps it up. The day the audience starts rejecting these movies, film-makers will be forced to change
In 'Main hoon na' how Amruta Rao's skin color changes after her transformation from Jhalli to desirable. The creators thus portray the wrong message of attractiveness as a result of a lighter skin tone and ignore the personality of an individual.
On the movie Vivaah, I think the story was conveying a very particular thing through the dark complexion of chhoti - her mother's jealousy. No other character treats chhoti poorly because of her color except her own mother. They all treat Chhoti with love and affection and enjoy her company because she's an interesting character. It's only one person who treats her badly. In fact, I would argue that Seema Biswas' character is the main character of the movie and it is her insecurity based on her own definition of what's beauty that's challanged in the movie. She's the person who needed to grow and realize that there is more to beauty. Prem, Poonam, Chhoti or the other characters stay the same. Her character is the only one with character growth. That's hardly a bad portrayal. In fact, that adds depth to the movie.
Colorism apart I felt she treated Amrita's character Poonam badly. She was aware that her niece became an orphan and still deliberately rubbed it on her that look how much I love my kid by ignoring Poonam and paying extra attention to choti in front of her.
Chhoti's mother had insecurities and she is rude to poonam as she is fair and beautiful....and she is strict with chhoti instructing in every movement...but how come there is no scene which portrays chhoti's bonding with her father...I really felt bad in the end when he realized both daughters are in the burning house, he called only poonam's name....once poonam and her wedding dress are safe, then he tried to save chhoti...BTW what is chhoti's name in the movie?
@@radhasindhura7918 wasn't that because he was unaware that Chhoti was also in the house and only found out afterwards? I'm not sure, 'cause it's been a while since I watched the movie, but I remember a moment of realization he had - after Poonam was out - when someone pointed out that Chhoti had gone inside. About Poonam, he was aware that she was inside.
Bollywood is way better in comparison to the highly male chauvinistic Tamil/Telugu cinema. & Bhool Bhulaiya 2 's dialogues were written by the Modern King of Cringe - Farhad Samji 👑.
" Tumhe yaad hai,....., tum mujhe chheda karte the?" (This literally made me facpalm) Pedophilia, stalking, constant eve-teasing and considering 'ownership' of someone, aren't these criminal offenses? Not only are they normalized but are showcased as celebrated romantic tropes which is just ridiculous. Haven't the creators thought just for once that it is somewhat wrong to show this on such platforms which connects masses?
It makes my blood boil. Because of these movies lot of crimes in the name of love have increased acid attacks aren't less .how these actors can't realize and becomes a puppet under their directors. Mahesbabu said bollywood can't afford me and talks big outside but his most movies are cringe towards heroine

We should just consider movies as movies. Watch it if we like or don't. Take what we want and discard what we don't. Movies are meant to showcase stories about different types of people, which can be weird to some sometimes. There's no reason to feel cringe or outrage. We,as audience should have the ability to take only the good part
@@sravan9253 Yes, I am getting what you're saying and you're right about it, as we can do it since we know what's wrong or not. But, what about those who lacks understanding? These films are showcased on tv channels where all age-groups are audience. Even I also watched Vivah with my family when I was younger and I liked Poonam character without any reason just because they were constantly comparing her with her sister. That's how a young mind processes.
This is a very interesting symptom of a very layered problem. Mass/Masala movies target a segment of audience as their primary driver. Maybe retrogression and irrational machismo is their USP in marketing the film among the primary takers. Which also tells you a lot about what they think of their audience.
Jammy, in the recent Thor: Love and Thunder trailer there’s a scene where Thor is stripped naked. This scene was treated in a comedic way despite the fact that it would be humiliating to anyone if they were stripped. I’m sure if the scene had a woman being stripped the people would cancelled the movie. What do you think of this?
Highly recommend *Only Desi* he roast classic bollywood movies, his humor is on top notch, he brilliantly spot small details and best thing he make you cringe your favourite classic films.
Why does no one talks about the kkkg movie scene where Poo rejects the college boys with disgust while body shaming them and gets attracted to a boy who is mascular, fair and doesn't treat her well Not only girls were body shamed but the cinema has body shamed boys
He doesn't treat her well? iirc he does but she doesn't. Plus he's fairer than Hritik Roshan yet she falls for him so even if it was criticised, the cricism would fall on its back. It'd be like if in vivah Shahid kapoor fell for Chhoti instead. What'll you criticise.
You should definitely do a collab with Only Desi. And you should also start a Hindi channel if possible. You can tap a very vast demographic of the public that way.
Somehow we don't have hero worship in Marathi cinema and thank god for that! 👏 we generally see who made the movie, directors are equally popular if not more than actors like Nagaraj manjule, Mahesh manjarekar etc. We have talented heroes but we don't worship them like other industries, we definitely respect them ❤️
I do agree everything you said about 'nenu local' . But I can confidently say this is the only movie of Nani of this kind. He had many bad movies but no other glorified stalking and sexism like this. You will find such scenes mostly in Puri Jagannath and boyapati Srinu movies. Even in actor 'ravi teja' movies. As much as I respect the actor for his talent and more than a decade of struggle and hard work to become a lead actor in a industry that is so full of nepotism, he is not changing with times and will become like mr.govinda

Yes! It's true.. the unemployed "rowdy" sometimes even a criminal is portrayed as a hero.. and is glorified constantly... the "local" hero is celebrated and his actions are always justified either in a funny way or just because he's the hero he can't do anything wrong logic... ( Later he turns out to be the "good hearted person" ) What baffles me is.. such heroes who are literally going against the law in many ways lecture women on how to carry themselves and how to behave and even blame them if stuff goes problematic... I don't understand, the society justifies rowdy behaviour of men but can't accept women doing stuff they prefer?.. What's more problematic is the "local" character is celebrated and ppl actually emulate their behaviour... Idk what has given way to such a culture.. but imo I saw a rise in such characters during the 10s decade... That's when tamil cinema also started with the highlighting the problems of men in a relationship by putting the blame on women type of songs... Such songs are supposedly relatable for the mass.. Also in the 10s decade the usage of words like "item", "figure", etc.. gained more popularity... That's kinda related to the rowdy culture... Well it's not restricted to Tamil cinema, the same things gained popularity in Telugu n kanada cinema also.. but.. here u can see a pattern.. It's the result of the regressive mindsets of ppl over here.. in a way we can blame the audiance.. in a way.. the old Tamil cinema.. The rowdy usually has a back story and he hails from a relatively poor background or he's an orphan or something.. and we are required to sympathize with him.. and justify his behaviour along with others in the film.. this thing is kinda related to the 80s tamil cinema I'd say..
why was the balayya bit so relatable, i'm from ap, here at every single film balayya's name will be chanted, just as a joke more often, i remember i went to see conjuring, at a jumpscare moment someone shouted jai balayya, and we were all laughing hysterically, the whole theatre's mood changed. there are many instances we shout the chants, again as a joke, its kinda cultural and doesn't mean anything.

I think Chhoti's character in Vivah was to highlight how you can have a more interesting personality than the lead girl and be very likeable and cheerful still your skin colour will make you the lesser one because of colourism problem in India....although i hope she had her own arc and this concept could've been executed in a better manner (but that would've shifted the entire genre of the movie lol)

Stalking and harassing women as a form of romance is so mainstream in the South that unemployed , ugly dropout males in their 20s and 30s hang around outside schools and colleges ogling girls. In the 90s as a school kid my sister faced a lot of harassment from random college guys all dark and ugly who thought they could score a respected professor's daughter. Not just that, these men had paid some of the school boys tp get my sister's phone number and what followed was a series of prank calls, blank calls at odd hours of the night. It was horrifying for us. The men also threatened to throw acid on her face if she didn't accept some loser's "proposal". My dad then actively pursued a University position (he was a Post Doc ) in epidemology in Netherlands ....and we immigrated. Good riddance.
Thank God. I think that the government needs to have a stricter punishments for acid attack cases. One person in trouble will bring all of them in line. Already too many cases of this. It's not just men doing. I have heard of cases that a psycho woman did something similar to a guy who was going to marry another woman instead of her. Not sure on exact details but it's sad.
Your comment while drawing attention to a very valid concern for women in society also brings out another vile venom, discrimination and classism, when 'dark and ugly' seems to be the problem with those rowdies!

I think the trope with unemployed rowdies persuing women in Tamil cinema comes from the notion of them being street smart and having more worldly exposure than your typical front bencher. It also is an ode to the idea of girls liking a 'bad boy' and wanting to 'change his ways' and show him 'light'. It is extremely regressive, but in a sense it is an underdog story because in reality everything is stacked against such an individual, and it also brings in a layer of class politics. Similar storylines are seen even in Hindi cinema, but often times it's under the garb of humour or more polished and often lacks the whole social class angle. On a completely different note, for the next matlab kuch bhi series please do revisit Desi Boyz you would think Akshay Kumar's character was the troubled one who is reckless, but Jhons character is faaaar more problematic.
It is what we call manipulation of fake "Class-awareness". An unemployed rowdy pursuing a woman is a cop out mechanism for the director. To create a real underdog story of someone coming from a lesser privileged socio-economic class takes a lot of struggle and character insights. To pen such a script and screenplay the director and the scriptwriter would have to delve deep and fish out the real psychological factors which enable such people to succeed. Now the primary takers of the films won't get this nuanced attitude as it's expected that mass audience are illiterate about movie-making parameters. All they need is fan-service ,hero worshipping and putting "stuck-up" girls in their proper places. It isn't an underdog story rather it is what the over-dogs want underdogs to believe what is an underdog story.

What’s your take on rocky’s approach or behaviour towards reena for her love ?I understand that it was shown in film the protective side of hero, never forced himself on her but still I found his approach insensitive.if calling her entertainment to hurt her deliberately for her safety, still they would have shown rocky confessing the same to reena& apologising to her.I loved their chemistry.i wish they had handled the relationship in a sensible way.
It is a different type of retrogressive attitude, curtailing women from their human rights cause predators are lurking. In a way you can take this as a critique of the hypocritic high society which cherishes on the idea of female liberations but does precious little to ensure woman's safety, which is an integral part of female liberation
In the 1st part itself Reena likes him seeing his arrogant and fearless nature and later in the movie...declares to her father that she loves him. She is heartbroken and cries when she hears his death news.So I think....in the 2nd part, Rocky already knows she loves him and he would like her to express it . Probably that is why he is purposely telling things to make her angry . If she didn't like him, for her character, she could have easily shot him with the gun when he came home and just walked away.
I was so pissed with that Entertainment line and in the whole movie as pointed out my Shubam from MenXP First Kamal and then Rocky keep referring to Reena as "Meri Ladki" instead of saying her name. As though saying "My Property" The whole forcing Reena to come to KGF on gunpoint was crass and in very poor taste.

I am a Telugu person, and the reason I do not like most of the movies from my language is that they portray the actors as over-the-top, regressive and even abusive at times but it's all good cause 'they have their hearts in the right place'. I used to get so uncomfortable watching movies where someone, especially the male protagonist, shames the female for wearing a short skirt or anything even remotely 'exposing' and the girl falls in love with him after that (I know this is present in every industry but I'm talking about what I saw as a kid). And one of the biggest things that annoyed me was addressing the actors and actresses as 'hero' and 'heroine' rather than as they should be. They are acting. Fans here general take everything to an extreme, instead of liking the actor for his roles, the actor is worshipped and even if the actor makes the most shittiest of movies, it still gets good income because of these fans. Movies are progressing, here and all over the country, but my question is, at what rate are they if even in 2022 there are dialogues that fat-shame a kid, tell a woman that her place is nowhere but in a house and to take care of the kids, and especially telling them how to dress and a lot more.
Yes bro, If we say anything fans will attack us. That's why i only watch content driven movies like Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya,Care of Kancherapalem, Pellichupulu , Brochevaruevaru ra and many more . Just we have to encourage these films more.

In that time, what should have been in the mind of writers that they have written such scenes,Govinda's gambler also had same lecture about women dressing scene
cinema is a reflection of the society. If the content is regressive, the society is regressive, and that means we are regressive. And trust me, we are. We recognize those faults and start changing them for the better.

I still love watching rajshri movies but as always I have to force myself to ignore a lot of bullshit. I love vivaah for showing the brutal reality of actual Indian society, be it chhoti being made to apply skin lightening stuff on her face or the moment where the marriage broker uncle is more concerned about Poonam's wedding than her injuries. Chhoti's character is my favorite, she has a personality of her own. But I hate how they never really addressed the unfair treatment she went through, or expanded on the rare vulnerable moment when her mother confessed to her own lifelong insecurities about her dark skin tone. Her father doesn't seem to care at all. There's not a moment of actual bonding between chhoti and her father, who almost refuses to acknowledge her existence except when reminded by his wife, Poonam or external circumstances.
Exactly,in one scene when his wife says if he is going to sell their house for poonam's marriage how they can plan for chhoti's marriage, he says that its the wish of poonam parents to have a grand wedding....how come he didn't have any wishes or ideas about his daughter's future. 1:24 Damn, Anmol! Had the same explanation when peeps were complaining about the cheating in Gehraiyaan. I had the same point that just because the lead characters are cheating, it doesn't necessarily imply glorification, it's just the reality being portrayed. Glorification would be Deepika and Siddhant's characters ending up together which they didn't. One died whereas the other didn't get back with her ex who she cheated on.
I think when u r judging the dialogues after watching some regional movie in hindi it could be the bad dubbing which could be the reason for the cringe dialogues and the dialogues in their own languages were fine
Sigh… we have a long long way to go to completely banish sexism, objectification, racism etc from the movies. Us as a viewers can decide to stay away from such content. That’s all we can do and when enough people will do that. The makers are ought to mend things.

@@sunandabehera5075 it was normal in the starting, then it became a taboo and now people have started to not see it as a bad thing. People's obsession over fair skin is unbelievable. Like your own family will criticize you for your skin colour or weight. When you have done nothing wrong in the first place.

I'm a Tamil person and I do find the unemployed, goon type wala scenes very cringe and impractical...maybe they want to portray the weightage of love that it changes the person....but all we know is that a person's basic character isn't gonna change....and it is a marketing gimmick that targets the low-class audience by creating songs and movies on local street gangs...gundagiri, unemployment etc as to connect to the audience better...but in the long run it is turning out to be a bad influence as people are overdoing it.....

About the rowdy protagonist phenomenon - here's my theory. While 60s and 70s were dominated by epic based stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata, 80s saw the rise of stories about farmers, low wage factory workers, labours etc which completely ruled Telugu cinema in 90s, often now referred to as "mass" role. Audience which was dominated by this demographic really resonated well with these characters and stories which encouraged filmmakers to try out more of such characters. Parallel to Bollywood, movies like Gharana Mogudu (Laadla), Autowala, Rickshawala, Coolie number 1 etc all embodied the large audience and talked about the everyday man's struggles. These movies mainly had characters who don't know about urban life and are regressive by nature but are good at heart. In most of movies people around him would realize that they have been wrong all along how true "Telugu values" are important. Audience enjoyed when these characters are able to teach rich people a lesson, something they're failing to do in real life and satisfied their anxiety of dealing with urban life. While Bollywood drifted to a different direction, the mainstream Telugu cinema was still dominated by these mass characters. Even if actors try out a romcom or a fantasy movie once in a while, they would make sure to make these mass movies to reach to that wider audience. As audience changed because of globalization, low wage worker became unemployed graduate or an educated low level employee but the emotions and tropes which made them "mass" still stayed. That's where they started feeling out dated. Because those characters from 90s were established to have been not educated or coming from a rural background, their regressiveness feels more like nativity when we realize they have a good heart, but when these educated guys preach morals to people even when we find out he has a good heart it feels he was still being a condescending ass. That's why I feel their "heroism" feels dumb and annoying. Again, just my analysis.
Very good analysis, also if I could add Indians(specially south) have a certian kind of prejudice against the capitalistic lifestyle that has increased in the society. So much so that the sufferings of the rich is disdained. So the south audience always love to see a person with a background they can relate to but yet be badass and street smart and get the girl he loves (which not every middle class or poor person can do.) It's a kind of a fantasy for the audience ig. This is kind of evident when Dil Dadakne Do movie released and so many saw it silly to see some rich people in a cruise "have problems". This can also be connected with how Indians as an audience have difficulty in relating with a character's emotions than his/her background. A very great example if I could give is; mental health issues can happen to anyone, rich or poor but when the character is a rich person in a mansion dealing with suicidal thoughts the potrayed, audience is always insensitive to it.
@@gayathripadakkal2477 Couldn't agree more! that's such an interesting point. In so many movies Rich are depicted to be sad despite having so much money and poor apeople are shown to be always more happy than their rich friends. I know in some cases its actually true, but it gets a little too on the nose in Telugu cinema. Best example, Koratala Siva who openly follows communist ideology and promotes the same in his movies. Almost all his movies address and depicts capitalism in a negtive limelight and promotes farmer empowerment. Its amost as he is living his fantasy through them. Like you mentioned, because of these tropes, its hard for general audience to take those character problems and issues seriously.
@@SaiKrishna-gl2js absolutely true! You worded out the pattern I've been seeing too much in south movies in the recent years. Most of the Telugu and Tamil movies I've seen have always had this farmer empowerment along with the poor hero who is "happy with his little life" and then comes a very capitalistic minded antagonist. Whereas Malayalam movies have literal glorification of communist ideologies in them. So most of the saviour complex in such movies is always given to the poor stricken or rowdy dude than the rich dude as he is not someone audience would relate to or sympathise with.
@@SaiKrishna-gl2js communist ideologies were portrayed in the 80s and 90s by siva krishna, R. Narayana Murthy and Madhala Shiva, Koratala Shiva movies are not communist in all his movies except Acharya the hero is a rich dude trying to do something to the society, actually except in Acharya his heroes are very kind at heart, koratala is 10 times better than all the other directors present, he was forced to change Acharya story to lift Ramcharan and the poor people in telugu cinema are always shown as sansakari male patriachs in the 80s and 90s mostly after NTR left to politics
@@dheerajnagraj8683 Ummm. Okay firstly, I did not talk about his credibility as a filmmaker. He is a decent writer and a better director. Personally, I enjoy Mirchi and Srimanthudu, not a big fan of Janatha Garage or Bharath ane nenu. I feel he has problems designing his protagonists with proper depth, which was glaringly obvious in Acharya. Now, coming to the other point, yes the lead characters in Koratala siva movies are not hardcore communists (except Acharya), but their arch or a part of any subplot mostly has anti-capitalistic undertones. Harsha from Srimanthudu adopting a village and spending his dad's money earned from capitalistic means, Bharat from Bharath ane nenu openly questioning and opposing the rules set by government, like this, Koratala always includes elements which subtly comment on functionality of capitalistic society. What R.Narayanamurthy and Siva Krishna made were full on propaganda films rather than movies with a particular ideological undertone. Koratala Siva has openly discussed about his support towards communist ideologies. Again, he is a decent mainstream director and there is no doubt he is capable of delivering a mainstream blockbuster in Telugu.
Adding onto Varthupudada Vaalibar Sangam. SK’s character was aware of her age when Sri Divya’s character was getting married and he complained to the police that she is only 16 years old and getting married under the age of 18 is illegal. Only for him to purse her even more later on.

Looks like Jammy has created an echo chamber for his audience. The characters mentioned in the video behaved that way because that’s how many people behave in real life. The directors take inspiration from real life. It’s not like they make characters out of thin air Also why everyone wants moral lessons from fictional characters? It’s your parents/ teacher’s job. The entertainment industry owes you nothing. It’s completely a mistaken notion that the movies change society. It’s actually the society that changes movies. In the 90s, you’d see actors playing working class characters. But it had gone after the fall of communism. So in the last 25 years, you barely saw actors playing working class characters. So it’s the society that changes movies, not the other way around. I’ve seen the same naive comments on the comment section after Pushpa release. Everyone was so surprised about how could pushpa treat women like that. Well what do you expect from a coolie? He treated women the same way he grew up watching how men treated women around him. Why do you expect gender equality from a coolie? You can’t expect him to smoke agarbatti just because his antics make you uncomfortable The Vivah scenes would completely make sense if you ever got out of South Bombay. I personally witnessed a case like that. The groom’s family was coming to see my distant female cousin. Her younger sister had fairer skin, so my aunt intentionally hid her from the groom’s family. She feared they would’ve chosen the younger instead of her elder sister. Cases like this exist around South Asia. So why is it a problem if Barjatiya showed it the way it is? Why do you want sugar coated truth ?
Ha ha stalking is love this is the idea implanted in the minds of telugu youth, in Tamil Nadu when Aama was the CM, the male patriachs sit at home, in Padayapa there is a dialogue which was relatable to the Tamil audience because that dialogue pointed Jayalalitha as the over angry person and Karinanidha as the over greedy person but in telugu because of the lack of that concept, the dialogue backfired as gender stereotype
Haven't seen Nani's film but the scenes seem inspired by Maniratnam's Mauna Ragam and Karthik's character in it. Of course, in that film, the character has a context, of a Robin-hood who is involved in fringe activism and had a brash way of sharing his love and emotions. The archetype plays out in Tamil cinema outside the context of that filmic narrative and renders itself hollow
4:40 As a Telugu it's not our fascination with Hero being a Rowdy , Stalker , Smoker , Drunkard , Unemployed , etc it's the Director's fascination for Hit as it's a Tried and tested formula for Tier B and Tier C type of Audience from so long time and it never fails that easily .

What an interesting point of view: I never thought of Vivaah being Seema Biswas' bildungsroman! 👍

Even I also watched Vivah with my family when I was younger and I liked Poonam character without any reason just because they were constantly comparing her with her sister. That's how a young mind processes.
This is a very interesting symptom of a very layered problem.
Mass/Masala movies target a segment of audience as their primary driver. Maybe retrogression and irrational machismo is their USP in marketing the film among the primary takers.
Which also tells you a lot about what they think of their audience.

Yes, but they will not troll poo because she was not sanskari or behenji type.
When did he not treat her well? He gave witty comebacks to her dialogues a few times but never mistreated her.

As a fan of Nani, I agree
*Actually Nani stalks Anu Emmanuel in Majnu and she is VERY uncomfortable. But besides these two, I don't think he'll ever do that again*
In almost every other telugu movie, all this is very common.
Govind a also stalks women in flims.

Yes! It's true.. the unemployed "rowdy" sometimes even a criminal is portrayed as a hero.. and is glorified constantly... the "local" hero is celebrated and his actions are always justified either in a funny way or just because he's the hero he can't do anything wrong logic... ( Later he turns out to be the "good hearted person" )
What baffles me is.. such heroes who are literally going against the law in many ways lecture women on how to carry themselves and how to behave and even blame them if stuff goes problematic...

It isn't an underdog story rather it is what the over-dogs want underdogs to believe what is an underdog story.
overdogs want to show this as a “underdog story" to get middledogs wide attention

@@julpar253 I am sorry but Rocky was not there and I don't think he left some kind of spy cam or some one to keep an eye on Reena to know that Reena declared her love for him in front of her Father and was sad to hear about his false death news and missed him.

When the house is burning, he only shouts poonam's name...saved her and her wedding dress then tried to rescue chhoti...Her mother is always strict with her and father doesn't care about her...I don't what's her name in the movie

Avatar 2 script was finalized only after Govinda's consent
One of the most "matlab kuch bhi" movie plots is of the film 365 dni....the man kidnaps the woman for a year to make her fall in love with him........what's more bizzare is that the movie made millions....
Looks like Jammy has created an echo chamber for his audience. The characters mentioned in the video behaved that way because that’s how many people behave in real life. The directors take inspiration from real life. It’s not like they make characters out of thin air
Also why everyone wants moral lessons from fictional characters?
You can’t expect him to smoke agarbatti just because his antics make you uncomfortable
The Vivah scenes would completely make sense if you ever got out of South Bombay.

@Aria Kuchiki but I never watched it in theaters .
About that sivakarthikeyan's movie,i think i have seen it's remake in Telugu named "Current theega" and the film is shown n in village. In villages the girls who hit puberty are considered women and most girls are 18-19 by the time they enter 12th class and they are considered women and I live in a tire-3 city but some of my classmates got married as soon as they finished +2.but I guess people are changing now and the film showed the scenario of 2013
