  • Artiphon sent me an INSTRUMENT 1 to review. Here's that thing.
    The INSTRUMENT 1 is a multifaceted, multidimensional MIDI controller that you can use to play software instruments on Mac, PC, and iOS.
    You can change its behavior using the INSTRUMENT 1 Editor software. Play modes include things guitar, bowed instruments, pianos, percussion, autoharp and more. A built-in arpeggiator and various scale modes can inspire new ways of interfacing with your software or hardware instruments. It has velocity and aftertouch and you should touch it and think about your life.

      Graeme Cook seriously gave me goosebumps. I absolutely love the slow as hell barely melodic space out tones like that. The original Blade Runner score is one of my all time favorites but the new one is right up there because of its slowness and general spacey ambient feel

    Very cool that you got one of these. This company is based right down the road from me and I've been to their offices and they are very decent fellows. They allowed me to borrow one for a while (which I need to find time to bring back) and I found it to be a very engaging interface. It helps find new sounds and happy accidents rather freely. You do a great job of demoing it here.

    I finally stopped buying gear because I’m a guitarist and bass player who loves synths and I have enough. I wasn’t buying any new midi controllers, then you demo this. If there was ever a piece of gear that could infuse my guitar playing ability with the lush sounds and capabilities of a synthesizer it’s this controller. Wow. This is fantastic. Thanks Jeremy for enriching my life. Have a merry Xmas.

    Your sarcastic approach is fantastic man, cheers! My only wish for the Artiphon is that the strum section tabs were longer for the sake of guitarists that play finger style. You simply couldn't translate your traditional picking hand mechanisms to work with such stubby "strings".

    • @mBUSHattack
      @mBUSHattack 6 лет назад

      ticklesitter Can you program this to work like a guitar in every way? I'm just thinking that it might be neat writing piano music but with the technique of guitar. (And I don't play piano really but am relatively proficient at guitar).

    • @ticklesitter
      @ticklesitter 6 лет назад +1

      I would imagine you could make quite a few tweaks on the software end to make the Artiphon function closer to an actual guitar, i.e.; aftertouch assigned to pitch bend kinda thing. But the physical limitations of the little string tabs would still prevent you from being able to utilize a variety of picking techniques. Although with a bit of innovation you could potentially create longer tabs that could clip onto the existing tabs, making the tabs stick up further from the controller surface and also lengthening the tabs to emulate the distance between a standard bridge and neck. I would imagine having the tabs stick up further could allow for more accurate plucking variation. From the manufacturer's end of things, they could utilize sensors that detect where along the length of the tabs you are plucking, consequently allowing for plucking near the bridge to have a brighter thinner sound, whereas plucking near the neck would be a deeper thicker sound.

    For the record don't know much about music except that I can listen to it. I understood about half of what you said/wrote, but by God it's just amazing handling of such instrument. The best part is that you really know how to use it and explained very well what you where doing. Thank you!

      I'm sorry, that just kind of tumbled out of me. Let's try a different mode. Did you use this to do the guitar riff on the intro to Sing Me to Sleep?

    Best example in this video: with delay and reverb everything sounds nice :) Interesting Midi Controller that is!
