    I have worked on the Airbus since the early days of the A320 series and pilots then used to say to me “I wish the side sticks had feedback” and they still do. Most their flight training is in dual control aircraft with feed back so I takes time to learn no feedback and indeed in times of stress, pilots revert to memory and you have situations like AF447.
    Boeing in the early phase of their 777 development were told by pilots that they want feedback on their controls so backdrive actuators were added to the yoke controls.
    If you are going to have humans in the flight deck, then design a flight deck for humans.

      Airfrance almost pulled the same sunt on a 777 though, IMHO (not a pilot) if the crew is confused enough to end up with two people in control and panicked enough to keep it up for a good while, they are more likely to keep fighting the controls and wonder why the aircraft does not respond as expected than to look at their colleague and realize what's going on. Heck, if I remember correctly, I've seen more than one reconstruction of accidents resulting from pilots fighting each other on some versions of the 737, which is as feedback as you're gonna get these days. That being said anything that helps deliver information is welcome, so I think the move to FFB, while not really game changing is a wholly good idea.
      I am however not entirely convinced by moving thrust levers. Slapping them in CLB and not touching them until touchdown means (again imho) that AAR214 would have not happened, and in general allows the aircraft to select the appropriate thrust setting for a given phase of flight, which i think is a net positive as it removes an entire layer of errors

      @rx3dn I love the A320 but takeoff and landings are much smoother on an old time 737 due to the lack of auto-trim. The airbus will wobble up and down on gusty wind during approach, it's unpleasant and the pilots can't butter the landing like a737 can.

    Sidestick is for single pilot fighter aircraft. For situational awareness in two pilots flightdecks (cock..pits) the yoke is much safer. The captain needs to see what the copilot is doing... and vice versa... FBW for both concepts, of course.
    Regards from the Boeing 747-8 cockpit, partly fly-by-wire.

    • @rtbrtb_dutchy4183
      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 3 месяца назад

      LOL, you again. The yoke isn’t much safer. It’s 6 one way, half a dozen the other.
      Both have pros and cons. However, the latest sidestick technology have both sidesticks synced up, as mentioned in this video. Airbus hasn’t implemented this yet, but I’m sure they will eventually.
      If a yoke was indeed a safer option, all the newly designed airplanes, would have a yoke, yet everybody is switching to sidesticks.
      And why do you always have the need to mention what you fly? 🤣🤣🤣

      @@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 I know what you're doing, Dutchy. Your company is not a big secret. Just one question: Why does it bother you when I tell what I'm flying? I perfectly know that it's not a big deal to fly a 747 or other aircraft for that matter. It helps folks here to qualify my educated guess about side sticks. Don't know if you understand what I mean. To show a "low profile" is about the same as the opposite. Again, the current type of Airbus side stick is not as safe as a conventional FBW yoke. Any psychologist knows that. Are you psychologist, too? Got to go... If you want to talk about it, I'm easy to find. My books, too. Regards from.. ✈

      @@Renato.Stiefenhofer.747driver nah, you likely won’t know where I work.
      Why does it bother me? It doesn’t bother me, I just think it’s silly. Because there are 2 kinds of pilots. You have the pilots who love to fly. And the second group are the pilots who love to be called a pilot.
      We all know the joke: How do you know there is a pilot at a party? He’ll tell you. It’s funny because there is some truth to it.
      And no, the current sidestick in the Airbus is not less safe. Both have their pros and cons. Boeing also wanted a sidestick, but they chose to make it easier for pilots to go from 757/767 to the 777, by keeping the yoke.
      I fly with both, yoke and a stick. It’s all the same.
