A lot of pottery tutors advise students not to use an electric mixer to mix glazes - they claim it adds air which will be detrimental to the application of the glaze. Please can you explain why you use a mixer?

Hi Kaden, Thank you for your comment. It's not so much how you mix it, it’s how fast, therefore how much energy you put into a liquid.
Industry uses very powerful mixers with long run times, i.e many hours if not days for casting slips. So they are powerful to move large liquid amounts for long times without wearing the motors.
If you took a small amount of liquid with a powerful mixer then yes, it would whizz too fast and introduce air into the mixture and some liquids, it could go stringy.
The pehatine used in the video, is a form of CMC/bentonite and that could potentially mix up like a meringue. But a domestic drill especially a battery powered one would not get anywhere near that. So in this example, its simply a quicker method of mixing. I hope this is helpful.
