Obviously it's been more than a couple of weeks since I posted this video and a few people have been asking where the instructions are. They are coming... unfortunately, I got a bit sidetracked with some other models. I plan to have them finished and posted in the first week of July, along with a new video of the printer. Sorry for the delay!
Hi Jkbrickworks, I built the machine, but to let the machine work, I need a program. On your website was a .zip file, but I don't know how to open that on iPad. Is it possible to have the program on iPad or is it only for pc?
Great invention and thanks for sharing the code and instructions. It's so easy to learn with something that you can reference. One observation because it wasn't immediately clear to me was that the printer uses a standard 8.5x11" sheet of paper that has been cut in half. This is probably because Jason is designing this to be used with the parts of a standard EV3 kit. Amazing example of what Lego Mindstorms are capable of doing!
I built one of these in 1989 using multiple colored felt tip markers and Lego Logo. I was also able to program it to print an image and then fill said image with color.
You never cease to amaze me, Jason! Perhaps you could do something to the upcoming Apollo 11 Saturn V set? Not sure what, but you are good, and I know you could modify it somehow...
That is really cool ! Maybe I'm the only one bothered by this, but I just wanted to point out that in "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", it's "jumps", not "jumped", otherwise there is no "s" in the sentence. Anyway, great creation, keep building !
A year ago I also made a similar printer. I modifed the code from Simon Dollé for his "nxt sketcher" to work for a XY-printer. You need to convert an image to .svg format and upload to the nxt. All the uploaded files can than be selected from a menu. It's quite a complex code, but with a basic knowledge of programming it's doable.
I like the rack-less linear actuator: I think in this application it might actually be superior to the rack and pinion as it doesn't have any play that can introduce backlash.
Technically this is a plotter and not a printer, though of course the difference is mostly academic, and I guess "plotter" would be an archaism for most people today. Really cool machine. That is the most important thing. Good job.
I hate to be 'that guy', but this device is actually closer to a pen plotter. Great video though, I can't even imagine having the skills to build something like this!
@jk Brickworks there's an app for Android called ev3 Bluetooth mailbox or something by Ferdinand stueckler and it lets you send text data over Bluetooth to the ev3. You could maybe use this
_In computing, a printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human-readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media._ I'll rest my case...
It looks awesome! Did you think about reprogram needleJet technology and use official lego stationary pen (it has studs, sou you can fix it in construction really sturdy and it is quality pen).
The sentence you were looking for is "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" which has every letter of the alphabet in it, not "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" which is missing the letter s.
Can you hardcode the letters in the program so that you can type in text and it will print? Also, do you have instructions for this model? Very good job! I'm impressed!
Have built the printer and added it a feature of printing pictures. If you want, I can send the EV3-G code and the picture convertor to you via e-mail.
Jeton Oyunlar Hey, is it possible that you can send me the code and the converter? I tried to print pictures a few time by myself but it didnt worked. That would be awesome.
This is extremely awesome, but the sentence is "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogS" not "dog" because otherwise there would be no "S". You could also change "jumped" to "jumps" if you want to do it that way. Still, great machine, man!
is it possible to make a program where you type the text on your computer then it just prints it and no chance of getting the morse code wrong. I would really appreciate it

i've been checking and checking so many times your channel, i really want to build your printer (y)
JK Brickworks last day Of the first weekend Of july

Bob de Bouwer It only works on PC. The app only let you make progamms and load up demos.😕
PLAYB0X TM ok thank you.
You always have the perfect music to go with your model, it's amazing. Keep it up!
This is one of your most brilliant creations yet.
Thanks!
Always amazed with your creations Jason

Nicely done, really clever.
Very clever! The writing is really neat and tidy as well.
This is incredible! You really are a talented builder! Keep up the awesome work!
It is crazy what you build!
I was able to build it today and print a test page. AMAZING!!!
Your projects are awesome!
Such an innovative creation! Can't wait for the updates; as if it's not good enough!
Wow, amazing work!
Awesome. You my friend are the technology / LEGO / gear guru
I built one of these in 1989 using multiple colored felt tip markers and Lego Logo. I was also able to program it to print an image and then fill said image with color.
I refined it with thinner pens to make a dot matrix printer.
You never cease to amaze me, Jason! Perhaps you could do something to the upcoming Apollo 11 Saturn V set? Not sure what, but you are good, and I know you could modify it somehow...
Youve outdone yourself
Very nice work! As always
that's awesome
that must have talked a really long time to program
Agreed
figured master of death no
miku hatsune
???????
figured master of death it's just her opinion
Amazing mechanism ! Keep up the good work ;D
I love your channel and especialy your lego mindstorms videos. Please I want more.
Technically it's not a printer, it's a plotter
MAX MAX Eh, technically it is printing the ink onto the paper but I guess you are right.
Nip Nip Eh, technically your comment isn't pointless, but I guess you're right.
According to Wikipedia a plotter actually belongs to the group computer printers.
Infinite loop, according to Wikipedia I can call you an animal
SECONDQUEST True.
Super cool, I have been thinking how to move the pointer vertically without belt for a while. It turns out that you are using wheels! Awesome!!
can it do my homework?
TheNatBat like yes it can
TheNatBat if you first type the answers on the program 😁
+ivan darn it........
TheNatBat isn't that what it is made for
TheNatBat our school does not have homework!
That is really cool ! Maybe I'm the only one bothered by this, but I just wanted to point out that in "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", it's "jumps", not "jumped", otherwise there is no "s" in the sentence. Anyway, great creation, keep building !
alexthi but where is the 'h' or am I just blind
Freya Whiteford oh, hahahaha
alexthi You could also change "dog" to "dogS".
Remco Ardui tHe quick brown fox jumps over tHe lazy dog
Was wondering if anyone would notice. :) Good eye!
Amazing!

That is really clever that mechanism for creating linear motion. So stealing that.
I like the rack-less linear actuator: I think in this application it might actually be superior to the rack and pinion as it doesn't have any play that can introduce backlash.
brilliant!
Man, you're a genius.
Congratulations Jason. You have amazed me with some plastic bricks once again.
Impressive as always :)
that's insane!
Splendid!
How could someone dislike this
Great printer by the way! :D
You are so genius!
I made an NXT one and it worked a treat!
How did you get the program to work with the nxt? I have one and would really like to make the printer. Thanks so much!
amazing!
That's awesome!
Mindblowing ! .. 3D printer next ?
Pretty cool
Very nice plotter design. You could maybe write a bit of code to parse SVG files next, that would make for a very cool demo.
Bro that is epic
Nice!
Thank you very much for this introduction.
Technically this is a plotter and not a printer, though of course the difference is mostly academic, and I guess "plotter" would be an archaism for most people today. Really cool machine. That is the most important thing. Good job.
This is pretty wizard
Cool!!!
wow that's great!!!
Totally beats my NXT printer... :(
Nice work.
very cool :D
When you have to bring a handwritten text, copy it from the internet and print it with that printer^^
Looks awesome🐼👍
I hate to be 'that guy', but this device is actually closer to a pen plotter. Great video though, I can't even imagine having the skills to build something like this!
i m geting worried u haven't posted for a while and I love your videos plz continue making videos
its just awesome
That's very cool. I'm constantly amazed at what can be made with Lego!
But can it draw a circle?
It can't easily draw a perfect circle, but it can approximate one using straight lines.
@jk Brickworks there's an app for Android called ev3 Bluetooth mailbox or something by Ferdinand stueckler and it lets you send text data over Bluetooth to the ev3. You could maybe use this
Yeah, I've looked at it. Will probably do something similar at some point.
amazing you are genius!
you are a super smart Guy dude
AWESOME 😉 MUST BUILD THIS
"keep on bulding"
u r my lego god!
no that's a plotter.
_In computing, a printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human-readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media._ I'll rest my case...
Wow !

I've actually created a printer as well but with the old robotics invention system 1.5 and his RCX 😄
I really enjoyed the video and was wondering if you could make this with Boost.
that's amazing. Lego 3d printer next?
You should add more sensors to keep the machine accurate over time.
Very cool, might make my own version with the NXT 2.0?
A dank printer show cased in 4 minutes, 20 seconds...nice.
This man is an absolute fucking genius
that´s asome. when is it going to be in your ofificial page?
would love to see a lego 3d printer using the 3d printing pen!! :) reat video
I made it and its amazing
The sentence you were looking for is "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" which has every letter of the alphabet in it, not "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" which is missing the letter s.

Yeah, it can print whatever you program it to. Instructions will be coming in couple of weeks.
Do a bluetooth interface, and a small app so you can write and print with your phone.
something to do my homework! :)
Hello JK, this is one of the most incredible things i´ve ever seen in legos, can i use this model for teach my students in the school?, im a teacher.
I imagine this being in a kids movie ... the modern cup and string.
awesomeeee
You should use the LEGO pen.
TML ProductionsTM ????
Green bot Studios Oh cool!
what is a lego pen?

Cool
the quick brown fox JUMPS over the lazy dog.
Good eye! Was wondering how many people would notice. :)
lol keep up the good work.

Jeton Oyunlar Hey, is it possible that you can send me the code and the converter? I tried to print pictures a few time by myself but it didnt worked. That would be awesome.
Damn, I'm working on an EV3 printer as well.
NICE
Please make a video showing how to install the program onto the EV3
I’m eating water while watching this
When’s it going to be released ?! Come onnn
So cool! Would it work with NXT?
I think plotter is the word. ;)
I love how the first sentence used every English letter.
This is extremely awesome, but the sentence is "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogS" not "dog" because otherwise there would be no "S". You could also change "jumped" to "jumps" if you want to do it that way. Still, great machine, man!
Good eye! Was wondering if anyone would notice. :)
JK Brickworks Thank you! :)
Me: Oh this is definily a clickbait.
Watches the video:
MOMMY I NEED SOME LEGO
Build a scanner and 3d scanner next!
is it possible to make a program where you type the text on your computer then it just prints it and no chance of getting the morse code wrong. I would really appreciate it
This is pretty good for kids hw
Now you can make a Lego 3d Printer
