I’m Japanese. Her singing conveys Scottish people’s heart even to me,an ordinaryJapanese. I have heard that she was active as a singer until her later days. Her singing is very moving. My poor English is not enough to express my feeling.

I was lucky enough to catch Jean Redpath at an intimate concert at Old Sturbridge Village many years ago. I wrote her a letter before she came, and in it I requested that she sing this song. She very graciously obliged, mentioning that it was a request, which she rarely takes because she likes to choose songs that move her at that time. Fab-u-lous! Happy, happy me!

I don’t think that there has ever been a better singer. Perfect pitch too. One great old song.

This performance always brings tears to my eyes, as do many of her songs. Rest in peace, Jean.

I am Korean, but I know this melody all too well. This melody is called a Christian hymn in Korea.

Yet another jewel mined from the soil of Scotland.
I hope the music of Scotland survives at least as long as the Earth. Someone shall see. Not me.
