I’m Japanese. Her singing conveys Scottish people’s heart even to me,an ordinaryJapanese. I have heard that she was active as a singer until her later days. Her singing is very moving. My poor English is not enough to express my feeling.
I was lucky enough to catch Jean Redpath at an intimate concert at Old Sturbridge Village many years ago. I wrote her a letter before she came, and in it I requested that she sing this song. She very graciously obliged, mentioning that it was a request, which she rarely takes because she likes to choose songs that move her at that time. Fab-u-lous! Happy, happy me!

Wow. Many beautiful renditions of this song have I heard. This may be the warmest of all

A lovely, sensitive rendition of a beautiful old Scots song. ❤
I don’t think that there has ever been a better singer. Perfect pitch too. One great old song.
This performance always brings tears to my eyes, as do many of her songs. Rest in peace, Jean.
R.I.P. to a champion of Scottish folk song
I saw this on public television when they broadcast "A Prarie Home Companion" on TV for the first time. Wonderful.
I'll miss this beautiful voice, and equally beautiful lady.
A lovely voice you never get fed up listening to
She was amazing. I’m so late to the party, but what a beautiful performer
Sad to lose such a beautiful clear singer RIP
It just doesn't get better than this!
Precious ~ what a gift she was to Scottish music.
I miss her and A Prairie Home
Love this.
A beautiful song, beautifully sung by a radiant human being!
Beautiful. Rest in peace.
Beautiful song.

Beautiful
Simple and beautiful
I am Korean, but I know this melody all too well. This melody is called a Christian hymn in Korea.
Beautiful!
Yet another jewel mined from the soil of Scotland.
I hope the music of Scotland survives at least as long as the Earth. Someone shall see. Not me.
Reworked by Lady John and it was she who put it to this tune, Martin
When will we see her like again??
It's a stunning performance of lovely song but it was actually written by Lady John Scott!
@yosserc Yes indeed ...no rasping overtones here ...never louder than sweetly ! (Janet Baker?)
I thought the original poem was by William Douglas.
That is one of the modern day Paul McCartneys
