35:48 we're looking for FUGITIVES those who survived the crash "Oh I'm a survivor of that crash, guess you found me hee hee" *They become hostile* Retro : 😮 Me: OH I WONDER WHY THEY BECAME HOSTILE 😂
FYI, the letter about the newborn was being carried by Gomwick to be delivered to the new father, as was the other letter for someone else, i.e. Gomwick was effectively a mailman.
The reason you get -1 on your attempt to resist the tadpol after you leave the Grove is because your wisdom is below 10. I don't think you have found the thing necessary to adjust your attributes, but you should know what they do: Strength (str) gives you bonuses on melee attacks (hitting) and melee damage. Also carrying capacity. Dexterity (dex) gives you bonuses on ranged attacks and ranged damage. It can be used instead of strength with light weapons (like short swords, Scimitars and rapiers). And it increases your armor class, making you harder to hit. It also helps with things like picking locks. Constitution (con) gives you more hit points and makes it harder to poison you) Intelligence is used for skills like investigation, history, arcane, etc. If you're a wizard, it also makes your spells more accurate and harder to resist. Wisdom (wis) is used for persecution, reading people, resisting compulsions, etc. It also makes clerics' and druids' spells more accurate and harder to resist. Charisma (cha) finally helps with all social skills (persuasion, deception, etc.), and makes the spells of bards, sorcerers and warlocks more accurate and harder to resist. *** Personally, I made sure my main character has at least +1 each in int, wis and cha. My dump stat (where I dropped my -1) is strength. I do this in most games, but it worked out great for me here, playing an elf spell caster with high def and two short swords for melee. 😊
When you succeed a check and then there's a conversation choice with no die roll category that is linked to the option you just succeeded, that's _usually_ the best option to use (i.e. reading the hobgoblin's mind, succeeding the (re-)roll, but then not choosing the related option. 😉)
Thank you so much for posting these videos! I've seen a lot of play through videos and the ones like yours where its just someone going in without knowledge of the game (or even dnd) to see what its like and just have fun are definitely the most enjoyable for me! The game is pretty big, but I would love to see you play through it all! It makes my afternoon great getting to watch you play and hear your thoughts as you go ^^
Really appreciate this comment! I think it's a little frustrating from some really experienced players, but I'm glad to hear so many have been enjoying it anyway 😄 I know it's a long game, but my hope is to definitely get through the whole game and have all episodes posted. In fact, episode 4 just dropped!
@@RetroRaconteur I actually got to see part of the livestream for Part 4 yesterday, but I started watching it when you were half way through so I'm looking forward to rewatching it from the beginning today!-- Don't worry about the people who aren't enjoying it as much. There's lots of other videos for them to watch. Yours is refreshing and unique, and watching you learn as you go and seeing what choices you make has reminded me of the fun of just playing the game for the games's sake. Speed runs are great, evil runs are interesting, but your videos have been more fun to watch than any of those. I look forward to following the whole series! Good luck, you've got this! ^^
when you do something that is part of a background you gain inspiration, you can have up to 4 a once, use them cuz you will lose out if you are full and gain a new one
There is a way to diplomatically solve the Kagha vs Zevlor problem but involves a side quest where you have to find her personal chest hidden where she’s at in the grove. There’s a letter there that gives you a chance to find out what’s really influencing her decisions and opens a side quest to solve that entire storyline peacefully.
I'm so glad you're making videos of this game! I have BG3 myself but I've never played a game like this before, and I'm always very hesitant going in blind. Keep up the great work!
As far as I am aware, you can't change those "leveled" spells like Thunderwave into a cantrip. Those spells are balanced by being limited as they are more powerful. Cantrips, on the other hand, are weaker spells, like Firebolt that you can cast infinitely and are a set category. Think of them like lvl 0 spells that cost no MP to cast.
You got a pretty good outcome with Netty. Let’s just say things got messy for me first time. Also, reminder for the future: you can disengage combat by running away far enough ;)
I'm really curious how episode 4 will turn out when you apply all the feedback and tips from everybody. What I also noticed is that you look at your journal as an normal quest log. In BG3 it's optional. You can't do everything, cause you have to make choices. Kill, save, help or ignore are all possibilities you have to choose from. Talking helps you get a perspective of everybody's pov. What you end up doing is up to you. You can say you help and kill somebody, but the effect of taking that quest is that you have the option to kill that person or tell that person he is an target. It's an open game with a mind-numbing number of possibilities. That's why this game is so good, you can play this game with the same character for 10 times and still have different endings, taking in the factor with species and classes will give you an all different experience. I made Lae'zel a barbarian the first time, cause I thought she was way to angry all the time to be an regular fighter. I also tried that with multi-classing Astarian one time. It's nice to rp play this game, or minmax everything.
I'm with you on that one, episode 4 will be the decider on whether I stick around. On one hand the missed content infuriated me, on the other hand I get that the game is a different experience for everyone.
@@lordbaylay Haha, understandable. But I think he'll learn. Retro reads what the tutorial, he just needs to sit on them for a few second more to really understand what it all means. But I love his perspective on the game. It's an unique experience to watch people play this game.
@@robinkuiperij3089 oh I absolutely agree that there's no "right way" to play this game. Equally, there's clearly a way to play it that's less enjoyable to watch for me, so the jury is still out.
A few things as I watch along: The inspirations your characters earn are what gives you rerolls on skill checks. Every inspiration equals one reroll, used whenever you want to. Also, you should always use the maximum number of bonuses you can, starting with shadowheart's cantrip guidance, which like all other cantrips is free. Next, cantrips: they are more or less like spells, but generally weaker (they used to be called level 0 spells, a long time ago); in exchange, you can cast them as often as you want, while spells use up spell slots, according to their level. (it is a pretty unintuitive system, that puzzled me too, when I first played D&D back in the nineties...)
Also, I think I've mentioned this one before, but you're missing out on Action Surge, one of Lae'zel's stronger combat abilities. That and I still believe that Shadowheart's Sacred Flame is just better than her Fire Bolt.
Looking forward to this stream, I messaged you regarding the dangerous sigil portal, game design to scare you into not doing things touch the portal and you'll gain another wizard Gale, hope this helps also can gain two followers in the grove
I recorded several of these before even posting the first one. So that's why I haven't reacted or responded to any comments in the actual videos yet, haha.
Your ability to reason yourself into the worst choices is so funny to me. Like the last choice, "just successfully use Detect thought by burning an Inspiration point", "let's ignore what it tell you and choose another option instead". What? Why???
Might wanna look into setting up a 10 minute timer on your phone to remind you to quicksave. Or you could quicksave after doing literally anything, but just be careful of oversaving cause steam doesn't like that a whole lot.
I can see by the comments for a lot of people, me included, episode 4 will be a make or break. Either way it goes, ok glad new people learn of this game :)

Also save more lol *but Iike you said don't scum save too much but some choices should be scum load ( 2nd playthrough try honor mode no save if you all die (also the hardest level) explore more check up and down
you need to fix your wizard you not taking new spells and cantrips (it hard to find but there some merchants sell cantrip spells (or found in chests) you need to pay money to scribe spells (wizard is only magic users who can do that)
touch the portal.. Gale is kinda lame, but his storyline is decent especially in act 3. I went through my first playthrough without ever finding Laezel lol, so shoudnt affect the story at all...
