may I give a a hint about class roles.
Your party should be a balanced party so every party member is fulfilling a certain role in which he is very good at.
      Those roles are:
"Face of the party" (the one who does all the talking with NPCs = needs high charisma)
"Combat specialist" (the one who does high damage in combat)
"Utility" (the one who unlocks chest, doors, traps with ease)
"support caster" (the one you heals party members, buffs them, debuffs opponents)
Certain classes are better for fullfilling certain roles by default than other classes obviously. I give you a "default overview". (Disclaimer : Although when you know how the mechanics work you can build basically almost every class (not every but most of them) into a specialist in any of these roles, but if you don´t then go "default")
Face of the party = Bard, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock (simply because charisma is their main stat) That doesn´t mean you need to choose one of those classes for your main character, it means those classes are best for talking, which can be done by party members as well, it don´t have to be the main character.
Combat specialist = Monk, Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock Wizard, Sorcerer = All very capable to do very high damage from the get go when built that way.
Utility = Rogue, Bard, Ranger (Rogue is by far the best for that)
Support caster: Cleric, Druid, Bard, Wizard, Sorcerer = Wizard + Sorcerer either built for high damage dealing or built for support casting buiding those for doing both is not a good choice.
(those who are placed first are also either the best class for that role or when there are equal strong classes then those who are first mentioned are just easier to play/to build for that role, so the order is not totally random)
Note: Don´t specialize in more than 2 roles with one class (as you can see some classes are suitable for several roles by default), even specializing in 2 roles is almost too much for certain classes but still doable when you exactly know what you are doing. So for instance a Bard who is face of the party + and intended to become very good in utility + and intended to become a very good support caster will not work well, you have to decide between + good in utility or + good in support casting (in my humble oppinion I would go for support casting because he is very good in that unless you have already a very good support caster in your party = "to find the best balanced party" is key)
But in general : So no "skill monkeys" who can do everything (but that then just very mediocre) are needed but "specialists" who are very good in 1 thing what they are doing and maybe depending on the class also a bit supportive in a second thing are needed for a good balanced party..

Just one thing: Even when there is a timer for x turns until something happens and you have to run somewhere, it might be better to kill at least some of the enemies so you do not get crowded - disengage is an action, and attacking is an action. If your attack could kill the enemy, don't disengage, kill it, so it can't hurt you again. And if you don't disengage and just run away (and don't dash for longer movement) - always take that ranged shot at the enemy - doesn't cost you anything to use all your actions. Contrary to D:OS2, you can't take unused action points into the next round. You got lucky with a lot of misses from the enemies and very good use of the rush attack at the end, so all was well, but you had me a bit worried when you simply ignored all the enemies and got to the point where the next three appeared.

The Dark Urge canonically is A White Dragonborn and items written about them are found around the game in a normal playthrough though you can customise them they are not actually a custom start but a Dark Origin character. If you do not play as the Dark Urge you will actually find them at the end of the game if you know where to look. Note the Origin Characters actually have more story locked into their origin starts, example with Gale you can absorb Shadow Magic making him become corrupted but this is only available in his Origin start and not the Tav (Custom Character).

Also, if you're short on food (which will happen very early in the game on Tactician, as it requires more supplies), you can access story content by taking a Partial Rest, which uses no food but acts more like a short rest in terms of HP and other resources regained.

  • @thuirthiawindsong
    @thuirthiawindsong Месяц назад +40

Long rest often. Ignore the “ticking clock”. Very few events have a true ticking clock to trigger them, so explore everything thoroughly (you’ll still miss stuff and that’s okay). Many cut scenes, especially the romance scenes, are triggered by long rests, so make use of the mechanic. If you get to a point that says “make sure to tie up loose ends before proceeding “, check your quest log that you’ve done everything you want to do with those quests. Some quests will get locked if you proceed through those points. Save your game so you can get back if something locks that you don’t like. And partial rest a few times to make sure to get all your cut scenes without wasting resources.

I did nothing but walk by near the entrance. there was no warning, no clue, no nothing that the game considers this enough to start a timer. a pretty important timer if you are interested in the reward or even with respect to the plot and the life of some NPCs.

Don't worry about missing stuff, this is a game that really benefits from multiple playthroughs, so you can always make different choices next time. while there are a few battles that you have to win in order to progress the game, for the most part this is very much a game you experience rather than win, and losing skill checks just opens different paths or gives you something to come back to in other playthroughs, so don't feel like you have to do everything "right" to fully experience the game.

charlatan is probably one of the most useful backgrounds for the playstyle you're trying to go with (especially if you don't have a rogue nearby), and in my personal experience they accumulate a lot more inspiration points through story events than most other backgrounds (only other bgs that come close for me are folk hero or haunted one).

It was a blast just getting the basics and understanding all the lingo figured out and having a fun time on my first play through. The longer you play, the more your brain just kinda opens up to all the things you can do, how you do them, and the various outcomes. Easy GOTY winner. One of the best games ever.

Welcome to Baldur's Gate, and Dungeons & Dragons. This game is the best representation I've found of what playing the actual Table Top version of the game is like. So...yes there is a lot of lore that is in D&D...you can learn it as you go. There is no RIGHT way to play this...each thing you do is going to be different, Each class is different. As is each race and sub race...so there is no way to play it the same way as someone else did. Also...your choices DO matter and effect the way the world, your companions and enemies see you.

@@greenmanjoe1 That's important in BG3... there are a lot of plotlines that only open when you fail a roll and a lot of different ways to achieve your goals.
And literally don't worry about the lore, whatever you miss in one playthrough, you can get in the next, obsessing over that is kind of pointless, since Larian made content that only a fraction of a 1 percent of all players will ever see.
Last summer they released the player statistics after one year, and some of the stuff there is so rare that unless you keep playing for decades, is almost impossible for a single person to experience. Just think about the total permutations of origin characters, custom characters, races, subraces, classes, deities and backgrounds, romancing options (or the roasting you get if you don't get any), roll successes and failures that you can get... is virtually guaranteed that each combination has unique interactions that you only see under those specific circumstances.

I felt abject horror as you killed that completely insignificant dead guy who definitely was not a potential companion that could've made your first fight easier. Then more cackling as you played a song as your first combat action, and even more as you proceeded to break your medieval guitar over an enemy as your first combat action that did actual damage. Then you proceeded to hit EVERY illithid button you shouldn't! You never re-equipped your lute, so you just ended up singing for your spells instead of playing. You didn't fight everything for experience, either, just ran. Absolutely fucking classic; so pure. This game is so much fun when someone doesn't know it inside out already! You've made it fresh.

Just subscribed I AM SO HERE FOR THIS RIDE OMG!!!!! Watching people playing Bg3 for the first time is my passion
    Edit:
-Just finished and my first advice as someone with 1000+ hours and all the achievements on steam for this game: save-scumming might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine and it saved my first playthrough. f5 f8 are the real heroes.
-One of the differences that I noticed from DOS 2 is that you can leave companions in the camp and then change them as you want them in the party that is very cool
-in the camp there's a mirror, you can change your appearence there.
-when you have a skill check the difficulty class is the minimum number you must get on the dice.
-As a bard your character should do all the conversations with npc. 100%
-Don't worry your genital choosing will not be in vain.
-You could choose the voice in character creator
-Fun fact: when you play a song near another bard they will start playing it too. Also if there is a crowd and you play your instrument you can make people gather and make money. if you don't have one equipt you will perform just not with an instrument..
-When in doubt before choosing an option on dialogue or skill check place your cursor on top of the skill, it will tell you if you have advantage or disadvantage and how many + points you have.
    -SLAP THE HAND!
-Enjoy the ride. This is a one way journey.

Really enjoyed your playthrough! I’m looking forward to seeing Joey’s adventure play out. Get into the habit of quicksaving often, especially just before a dialogue option you’re not sure about, or a dice roll you really want to pass, so that you can redo if need be. Also quicksave before and after combat encounters. Explore, loot and sell all the things, talk to your companions in camp often. Talk to NPCs, even the animals-you never know who will have a quest for you.
There are often multiple ways to solve a problem, and your bardic Charisma will get to shine; there are many instances where you can talk your way out of a situation, and even a few where you can convince enemies to kill themselves.
As far as romance options go, they’re all good stories; Gale’s romance is *chef’s kiss* if you don’t mind his chatty nature and a slow burn.

  • @chunkyshrapnel
    @chunkyshrapnel Месяц назад

This was fun to watch! I was in Early Access for years before the game released, so it's fun to see someone jump into it fresh.
A couple notes about game mechanics that will make things much easier for you (better to focus on fighting the enemies and enjoying the story rather than fighting the game mechanics). In combat, every turn each character in your party gets 1 action, 1 bonus action, and a certain amount of movement (default 9 meters for most races). The "action" is the primary thing you do on each turn; it's almost always best to use all available action points on every turn of combat, whether that be attacking an enemy, disengaging, dashing to get more movement, etc. Not using an action will naturally put you at a disadvantage for the overall fight. "Bonus Actions" are not something that you should always do, just something extra that you can do if the situation calls for it. This can include jumping, dipping your weapon in fire, shoving an opponent, etc. Movement is also critical to position your characters in the fight. I noticed you seemed to be clicking on objects/corpses or jumping to achieve movement; you can just click anywhere on the battlefield, just like when out of combat, and your character will run there as long as they have enough movement remaining for that turn. Any unused actions, bonus actions, and movement when you end the turn are lost; they do not carry over to the next turn so go ahead and use them as needed.
These are the just the basics of course. There are ways later in the game to get an additional action per turn using spells or potions. Some classes gain the ability to perform certain skills using bonus actions rather than actions, which frees up your valuable action for something else. If you have a character dual wield, they'll use the action to attack with their main weapon and bonus action to attack with the offhand weapon.
Fighting the game mechanics and not knowing what is possible can be frustrating so hopefully this helps make this a bit more enjoyable for you, especially since you picked Tactician! Good luck and have fun!

best tip for a new player. use your long and short rests often. the "ticking clock" often makes people hesitant to use long rests. it is a non-issue. also pushing random people/creatures/things though fun can start fights you don't want.

My friend suggested me your channel and I have to say I love the character you've created, BARDS ALL THE WAY!
I cannot wait to see your first experience, and I will be actively following this! Takes me back to my first adventure!

I'm only halfway through the video but you have such a pleasant personality, it's very entertaining to watch you play and comment.
Also your character lowkey looks like Nicholas Galitzine.
