  • This video is about a complete rebuild and usb convert of an IBM 3278 series terminal beamspring keyboard salvaged from a junkyard .
    Kudos go to Deskthority user Pandrew for his excellent beamspring usb controller design and to my friends Andrea and Marco for their patience and support.

    I love how we can hear news in Italian in the begining And people are talking on a very steriotype italian way.
    I didnt know you were Italian at First, interesting to know.
    I'm from Brazil btw.
    And wow, congratulations for the great work. This one looks like It was costly and hard to do.

      Thank You! About the italian news audio , it's been a little shocking earing it again during video editing about one year later , since most of the original background audio has been recorded during the Covid-19 China outbreak and we were not still fully aware of how serious the situation was. About the original PCB , it was still good , so no need to replace it . I'm aware that someone on deskthority.net/ did make replacement pcbs or I could have switched to pcb design mode :))

    10:36 The restored springs sound so clean! Also, if not for the title then I would have thought the board was completely unsalvageable. Has to be the most impressive restoration I've seen/will see on RUclips--up there with the people who touch-up Renaissance paintings!

      Thank You for Your kind words, You might have noticed that I like restoration of vintage computers and pc parts; these are, sometimes, really challenging tasks because they are generally in very bad conditions. I'm actually working on the restoration and revival of a couple of 8" disk drives salvaged from trash that were in a similar condition to that keyboard and there will be a video on those too. What drives me is the enormous satisfaction of seen this things work again despite their age and mistreatment but all this requires a lot of work on each project so I'm not publishing many videos as I would want to :)

    bellissimo! un po' breve semmai... mi sarebbe piaciuto vedere anche la progettazione dell'interfaccia e il restauro del case metallico. Suggerisco di aggiungere delle caption esplicative nelle parti mute

    • @BitSplits
      @BitSplits  3 года назад +2

      Ciao, l'interfaccia e' stata progettata dall'utente Pandrew di Deskthority, la trovi qui deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=24512 , io ne ho solo ordinati i pcb da Jlcpcb e assemblata come si vede nel video e programmata. Purtroppo , come ho accennato all'inizio , non ho potuto riprendere, a causa della pandemia, alcune fasi come la piegatura del frame del plate principale , la sabbiatura e riverniciatura del case, cose che ho commissionato a chi ha l'attrezzatura per farlo. E' difficile decidere quanto lungo fare un video, si corre sempre il rischio di scontentare chi vorrebbe vedere tutti i dettagli e chi si annoierebbe a morte :)

    • @BitSplits
      @BitSplits  3 года назад +2

      @@haluk91 Rust was too deep and some parts fell apart. I have a very good laser cut service in my area , they are equipped with metal sheet bending machines so I've been able to design the part and have it cut and bent. Not an easy task a should say!

      surprisingly, it can be disassembled to pieces. I cleaned, derusted, brushed, diy nichelated , lubed it and rebuilt!
