  • The Godfather is not just better than the book, (one of my favorite novels) it's better than any gangster movie that came before it. See how Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo turned an action-packed novel into a masterpiece of cinema that redefined a genre. By focusing on story, character, themes, and filmmaking art, two geniuses changed American movie making forever. Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone. Al Pacino as Michael. James Caan as Santino (Sonny) Book versus movie. Film criticism, analysis. 1970s movies. Mob, Mafia flicks. Deep dive. Screenwriting. Authortube newbie. Book tube. movie analysis channels Television writer. emmy award winning writer. screenwriting tips from hollywood professionals

here's an analysis of Godfather Part II and why it was a perfect sequel: ruclips.net/video/nBMVxFhL6iU/видео.html

Setting what Vito would have done about Carlo aside, one detail I noticed on my last rewatch is that during the sequence at the end the woman in the bed gets murdered along with the target
Up until this point Vito has threatened an unreasonable band leader; had two attempted rapists and woman beaters hospitalised; and killed a horse as far as we know
The woman in the bed is the first truly innocent (human...) victim we see and it's just another great piece of foreshadowing whether intentional or not of how absolutely ruthless Michael will be compared to his father (especially the almost mythically noble guy he's portrayed as in the 2nd film)
I absolutely love talking about these films

that's a good point. i've heard her described as one of 'tattaglia's whores' (he was the one vito called a pimp) or as his mistress, either way it wasn't his wife. but yeah, they just took her out as collateral damage which goes against the code of leaving women and children out of it. it especially foreshadows the way they took care of Geary in II by killing a prostitute and framing him for it. it shows how little he values innocent life. (not that he'd be the first mobster to do this ) I saw someone jokingly say vito had them put a dead horse in a guy's bed, michael had them put a dead whore in a guys bed.

For decades I had heard that this was the greatest film ever made. A few years ago, now in my fifties, I finally watched it. And I understood instantly why it's so highly regarded.
After watching your analysis, I now need to watch it again.
Also, The Godfather Part II is excellent, but I don't think it's quite the equal of the first. A lot of people think it's the better film, but I just don't see it. Maybe you have some thoughts on that for a sequel to this video?

i'm working on the video for part II as we speak (originally it was going to be one video but I had so much to say about the first one i decided to split them into two) They are both masterpieces!

All the main plot points and the best villains were taken care of in the first film. There was no way part 2 could be better than part 1.

Awesome! Of course we all know how to tell time, but now you’ve removed the case so we can get immersed in the watch’s super cool intricacies. Thank you!

Carlo had to die because he set up Sonny's assassination and c'mon he was just weak. Blood always trumps in-laws even if his sister was a head case.
The second film is as good as the first or better. And I know people hate on the third film quite a bit but I rather enjoyed seeing the end of Michael's journey.

but i'm curious if vito would have killed him because of how it effected connie. i think it was the 'right' think to do tactically, in a machiavellian sense. but vito had that sense of family.

my original plan was to talk about how they followed this up with II but this video had so much going on I decided to make that a second video. but yes, II is just as good if not better. what amazing movies!

@@PalleschitheWriter Interesting question. I don't think Carlo would have crossed Vito but had he in the same way (setting up Sonny or betraying the family like Fredo) then I don't think he'd have a choice. We know what Michael did in both cases but he was a harder case than Vito by the end. Even Micheal waited until his mother died to kill Fredo.
