500HP Hyundai i20 N Rally1 Car at WRC Monte-Carlo 2024: Starts, Turbo Chirping & Anti-Lag Sound!

- The Hyundai i20 N rally car has been developed by Hyundai Motorsport under the new-for-2022 FIA Group Rally1 technical regulations. Group Rally1 cars have two radical new features for the World Rally Championship: the first is the introduction of a hybrid electric power system, linked to the existing 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in use on the previous WRC Plus cars. The battery-electric motor element of the hybrid powertrain captures energy during braking, storing it in a 3.9 kWh battery.
The recovered energy can then be deployed via a 100kW (134 hp) electric motor which, combined with the 380 horsepower of the combustion engine, allows the car to have more than 500 hp available during acceleration. Unlike the push-to-pass systems of other motorsport championships with hybrid engines, drivers in WRC instead deploy the electrical energy through an automatic system dictated by pre-programmed engine maps
The second feature is related to their origin. In fact Rally1 machines have no series production car requirement. They still have to be identifiable as being based on a series production model but tubular space frame structures are permitted allowing for scaling of production models.
Rally1 cars have also a less complex suspension setup with reduced travel, a reduction from 6 to 5 speed gearboxes, in common with Rally2 cars including the removal of 'flappy-paddle' gear shifters and the removal of some aerodynamic components.

The Hyundai sounds and looks the best in my opinion. The Popping and banging off throttle reminds me of 90’s, early 2000 world rally cars!
Yaris seems like its got a new engine mapping for Sweden sounds alot more like the i20 now

Gruppo B non aveva elettronica, non aveva le gomme di oggi. Non aveva cambio sequenziale. Molto più difficile guidare un gruppo B Rispetto a queste auto. Bravissimi i piloti del wrc, ma il gruppo B era un altra cosa

Fun fact, the non hybrid cars in 2021 were pushing almost 500hp, while weighing significantly less. Amazing machines
The non-hybrid era ended in 2021, not 2022. Also the non hybrid cars from pre 2021 had 380hp. Not 500

All wrong, the “non hybrid” cars era ended in 2021 and the cars had around 390-400 horsepower’s and weighted around 70 kg less than the Rally 1’s

For a sacrifice of 70 kg to an increase of 120 hp it makes sense and the properly placed additional weight could aid in handling!
Even long after the Group B days, rally racing still remains one of the most batsh*t insane motorsports out there.
I wish I had suspension like this on my road car, public roads are almost worse than what these drivers experience 😂

Not an exhaust, some people are saying it's a vent for a heat pump/exchanger
