You clearly ran into some good people and absolutely made the right call at the end of your ride. Not finishing a ride might suck, but safety has to come first. I think parents with school aged kids really felt the effects of lock downs while dealing with remote work and on-line schooling at home.

The foreshadowing in some of these videos as it relates to COVID is quite interesting - many of the thoughts you have are what was going through my (and I'm sure many other's heads) at about the same time...having no clue that it would end up erasing over a year of our lives in many ways. Being on a tour in the midst of it all had to have been odd - and I enjoy seeing how those early days varied from state to state, or even city to city as you passed through. Even though it is a few years post, I am enjoying following along - thanks for sharing!

This must have been sort of a surreal experience with empty roads. As you called it an isolation ride!

The tethered balloon is part of TARS.
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations (AMO) uses the Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) to provide long-range detection of low-altitude aircraft at the radar's maximum range."

I rode up the Pacific coast the summer of 2020. A lot of the fast food soda fountains were closed(I usually filled my water bottles up). In 2021, I rode across the U.S. COVID was big on the Navajo reservation. Everything was closed on the reservations. I'm kind of a loner & I rough camped the whole time so it didn't bother me too much....& no, I never did get that COVID shot. I never trusted the government after they made us take those non-FDA approved anti-nerve agent pills during Desert Storm.
