Google’s AI and software is truly impressive. Both are outstanding cameras considering how small they are. We are lucky to have such great options no matter which ecosystem you prefer. I have a 15 Pro Max, but would love a Pixel 8 Pro as well.

Also, go turn on rich color format in advanced settings in the camera, it makes a huge difference also. Yes, reviewers are lazy (and biased obviously, especially American ones) and do comparisons in good lighting conditions with static objects, trying to minimize the difference - nowadays even entry level phones take pretty good pictures of architecture and people in good light. Try to take a photo of eg. a kid indoors at the evening and it's a pixel every time. Blind camera tests and live reactions of people speak for themselves.

iPhones tend to make the subject of photos the pop more than the background which sometimes means things like clouds are blown out. Most others try to process everything including the background but sometimes sacrificing the subject. This is why I think more people think iPhones have better pictures because most people focus on the subject of the picture and not the background.

I’m looking forward to trying out my Pixel 8 Pro. I’m currently using an iPhone 12 Pro Max but I never got as excited about the camera as I did even with my Pixel 3. I think you’re right a lot of it is personal preference. For the average user, iPhone is probably the way to go. For someone like me who really enjoys editing, I’m going to have fun with camera settings and editing in Lightroom to get great images. I’ve never been a fan of iPhone’s image processing. It washes away detail and the colors aren’t my favorite. I might not love my Pixel when I get it but I don’t love iPhone either tbh. I think it’s overhyped

One question that pretty much all reviewers use do not test.
What about the microphone range, specially when you are recording some very high volumes such as concerts or raves? my current (old) phone just captures all saturated audio, but i understand some newer phones are able to capture much better quality from those ultra high volume environments, and make something decent out of it.

I switched from the Huawei P30 Pro to the Pixel 8 Pro and I'm not so sure yet. At first glance, the photos aren't much better. If you then zoom in here, you can of course see that the P30 pro lacks details. Nevertheless, I find the Huawei's photos more pleasing without zooming in. Then there is the issue of software. The Pixel 8 pro has probably frozen 2-3 times. Strangely enough, most mornings after getting up, I suddenly couldn't close the alarm app (clock). Other apps can also be laggy and sometimes freeze for a few seconds. Quite strange. RUclips Music drains the battery like crazy... an hour of listening to music takes away 15-20% of the battery. The phone definitely gets very warm. Even today I could clearly feel it through the cover. On RUclips Music, change background images, while looking at pictures on “Photos”. Compared to my Huawei, which was always fluid, never crashed and always stayed cool, it was actually a disaster. I'm thinking about returning the phone... I'm not sure yet. Actually, the camera is one of the most important things to me... let's see.

  • @SirSnoozebutton

Both have great cameras. In most examples I liked the photos from the Pixel, but at the same time it seems to be a bit eager on the sharpening. Tree branches in 3:00 for example get a shadow/halo-like effect from the aggressive sharpening. I'd rather edit the photos myself, as it's very hard to undo the damage in an over processed photo. For the video I think iPhone is the clear winner overall, but it's not an important feature for me. Since Google finally ditched the curved edge displays and have a flat screens instead it's a great candidate for my next phone.

very similar in my opinion. The iPhone photos now respect the white balance better, although I think they still look yellow. They both have to improve on zoom, Huawei and Samsung are still far ahead for long-range photos. Video has improved a lot, the pixel is on the right track, right now it is a high-end one at that. Apple fails in HDR in photos and Google has to improve that in video. selfie I like the pixel ones much better, my skin is what it is, to change and soften the Chinese brands are already available hahaha both very good phones

I prefer the iphone camera and would love to have the google software. As a photographer, having the "real" look isn't always the best. Sometimes, since a picture is 2D, you have to change the colors and feel to transportate what you felt and saw at the moment the photo was taken, so that the person looking at the pictures catches the vibe.

It's good to have these super thorough tests. It almost seemed for the first few minutes like the Pixel was mopping the floor, surpisingly, but there's definitely some redeeming aspects on the iPhone still. I'm most surprised by it's zoom prowess since it's gone so quickly from Samsung as the zoom king, to the Pixel, and now I guess the iPhone though there's a few Chinese oem phones I feel like can beat all of those. I'm susprised you didn't mention how bizarre and robotic the iPhone looked using that stabilization though. That was so weird CGi unnatural looking lol!

8:05 Is the iPhone photo really taken on 5X lens? it should zoom in the background more right? Since its using actual 120mm lens. I have found that the 3x and 5x Portraits on iPhone are soo cool because they change the perspective and produces a more natural bokeh. But 13, 14 and 15 Pros have a slower Telephoto lens leading to blurry images most times. But the new 5X lens is 25% larger and clicks so fast to give super sharp images.
