Zach....not only do you show us what to do....stronger grip....you also explain the "why" of a stronger grip and then show "real" golfers like me who have this problem.....too cool. Do you have an instruction DVD in the works? You instruction and teaching style is invaluable.
hi zach nice video but I beg to differ when it comes to tiger's swing. The back of his hand is always facing the target, therefore on the side of the club rather than on top of it. This helps him square up the club at impact without having to turn over his wrists until after impact.
hi Zach. I've started with this new grip (stronger left hand) : better contact, more power but I need to find more neutral hands during impact because sometimes I hit some hooks. I'm working to have more rotation with the upper body, something like if I had the club in front of my upper body longer after the impact. what do you think of that Zach ? thanks for all, your advices are fantastic. my favorites for the moment working on it : this one and right footwork (spine angle). Going on 3.5hcp.
rico, You're hooking because your wrist is turning over on you. Make sure you wrist stays in position on your down swing even past the ball. Work on that body rotation like you're talking about and work on your tempo. If you're too fast with your hands and not your body you're gonna turn over and cause a hook.
Strong grip is the way to go if you want any kind of control. If your grip is on the weak side, you take the club away with the toe pointing straight up in the sky, the face will need to be rotated back at impact, which involves wrist, manipulating the face.. all requires additional timing, more parts to the swing and honestly, in most cases, poor consistency.
wow there are a lot of experts on this site. maybe just let people go out and try it and say 20 % get an improvement then that would be great. And his is just a drill to work on. If it works great if not don't do it. I respect all these great professional players of the past but there are a lot of no so good players looking for hints to improve. And if it can help them then let it be. Why do so many people think they know so much better than these instructions.
I dont agree with this. most golfers slice (ball starting left curving right) well trackman tells us ball starts on face angle at impact and curves from the path meaning a fade is hit with a closed face to the target. Well strengthening peoples grips just makes them close the face even more and slice even more. And a note on tigers grip change, its not that foley has really strengthening tigers grip as much as hes brought it back to neutral. Why did he do this? to get the face more closed and allow tiger to fade the ball as a primary shot. Under haney the weak grip allowed him to draw the ball without a fear of missing left.
Fradaja is right, a strong grip isn't going to fix an over the top downswing or a poor backswing, but it's the best way to help hit with consistency once you improve your swing mechanics.

You my a friend are referring to amateur golfers.who tend to swing over the top . Where I am referring to scratch golfers, who don't have this issue .
