I am now 64 and these where the first real band I went to see at the age of 14 at the Kursal Ballroom in Southend Essex with Dr Feel good in support. The gig blew my mind and still listening to these original Space Rockers and will be until the end! Increase the Peace ✌️
I found hawkwind back in 1974/5 been a fan ever since. There is no other band like them. Space rock ruled cosmos. They were the Masters Of The Universe❤
I regard this as one of the greatest songs of all time, especially the lyrics which to me are as deep and profound as anything say Jim Morrison ever wrote, one of those songs which totally transforms your view of life, the universe and everything!
My kids daddy was a true fan he introduced me to Hawkwind when we met and I 've been a fan ever since although since his passing in 2009 sometimes it's sad to listen to the songs we both liked they do hold special memories for me . RIP Alberto Lugo
These guys are my Gods. Why can't music take you to realms you never imagined anymore? The closest I've got to it is Grails. Just something fearless again. I'm 22 as well so I grew up after all this. I feel all I have is music from a better time.
I'm a Gilmour guy thru and thru....but I think this is what Syd was aiming for but never quite got there....and of course RIP Lemmy. Hope you reunited with Phil and Eddie up there.
The kick in at 3:42 still gives me a rush. Beautiful track and the hard and soft mix was always psychedelic for me and still is. Lemmy your still one of my heroes all the best wherever you are.
@JT Schnitz Its all cool and wonderful, other favourite psychedelic take offs are on gong's sprinkling of clouds around 4:00, though all good of course and also on gongs Allez Ali Baba Blacksheep Have You Any Bull Shit around 6:30 wonderful music by all these bands but they all share that psychedelic rush i hear on space is deep etc. Take care all.
The first 5 minutes of this piece, woke me up from my adolescent musical conscious, the last 3 minutes took me to places far away. I may return some day.
I used to get Sandoz LSD(had the letter 'S' in a triangle on pill..that is only lsd I knew for sure what it was...Acid was much more intense back then. I quit acid 'cuz I could no longer get Sandoz in late 70s...for a wee bit. I am longing for that feeling...................
One of Hawkwind's very best tracks, it really defined what "space rock" could be, to me. I like the two sides : heavy an dspacey, dreamy, in the same track, plus the use of a (treated) saxophone, flute, synthesizers and heavy guitars an dbass/drums makes a really unusual blend... This and Dave Brock's unique voice, instantly recognizable.... I never understood why he felt the need to work with singers as I think he's always been Hawkwind's best singer...
Space is dark, it is so endless When you're lost it's so relentless It does not feel, it does not die Space is neither truth nor lie Is this the reason, deep in our minds? It does not feel, it does not die Space is neither truth nor lie Into the void we have to travel To find the clue which will unravel Is this the reason, deep in our minds? The secret lies with our tomorrow In each of us is a hidden sorrow The path goes onwards through the night Beyond the realms of ancient light Is this the reason, deep in our minds?
I had a tent in the woods when I was a teenager. I ran an extension cord out to that tent so i could listen to my boombox and have lighting. Space Ritual was my #1 album at this time, and this song was a highlight.. it sent me OUT THERE, MAN!!!
My Mum had this in her record collection on Doremi Fasol Latido when I was growing up in the 70s & 80s and this was the first song that I ever learnt from start to finish when I bought my first electric guitar.I loved it so much I learnt the bass too.Magical sound!
I only vaguely remember any of the Hawkwind gigs at St George's Hall and the Stadium...and wherever else they played. Amazing stuff at the time and ust as good now.
From one of the greatest albums of all time and space, total originality by the Genius Robert Calvert and his crew, from this Hawkwind period came forth endless bands welcomed into the future
It's the switch from minor to major. They've been playing minor for sooo long, that when it comes, it's such a relief. HW do this a lot, in fact they're the masters of the build-up, for me it 's what makes them one of the great bands.
totally concur eye candy ear candy! 8 mins is long for me to stay glued to a tiny touch screen but this was great, top graphics to closely complement spacey music, droolingly lovely sight and sounds! Thank you! :)
I was abit older and drug experienced as I'm guessing you may have been. Those memories are still there mate. My garage is cluttered. I know there is a ford tripper carb set up in there somewhere. It's not lost. Just can't put my fingers on it right now. Brad King,,the specific memories my been gone, but the experience still molds you. Experience trumps cognition
Wilhoitsux - cannot agree more. Had this album for 40 years now and it gets better with each year. Was the first album I put on my iPad, this is the best track off that album.
Who cares if bands don't do this anymore.. Hawkwind did it. The music won't ever die because it was created outside of time itself. It's NEW. Always will be.
i love this track. vintage hawks. makes me wish i was 21 again full on . still 41 now but might go there next week at the santa pod bug jam. good festi atmos last year.
Memories of when I was about 16 or 17 and just discovering psychedelics in Melbourne in the late '70's.The big bands were Queen Kiss and Ac/Dc but I was trippin to Hawkwind Floyd the Beatles and also the frisco bands.I thought there would have been a revolution by now.Love and Peace (still)
Came late to spaceship Hawkwind. (1980) never heard on radio. Kept seeing the Space Ritual at Cool used Record shop. Finally bought a copy. Mind Completely Blown. Also took the trip to Planet Gong.
I sort of have a memory of hawkwind at manchester apollo in the 70s, god knows what i had been up to. I remember no seats and the crowd sat around in groups and lots of purple/red light hehe.
Space is dark, it is so endless When you're lost it's so relentless It is so big, it is so small Why does man try to act so tall? Is this the reason deep in our minds? When I 1st heard Hawwind in 72 all i thought was "This is the music i've always wanted to hear & no one's ever played". Nothings changed!~~~

We've all been stoned out our minds listening to this bk in day
These guys are my Gods. Why can't music take you to realms you never imagined anymore? The closest I've got to it is Grails. Just something fearless again. I'm 22 as well so I grew up after all this. I feel all I have is music from a better time.
Hawkwind is the best band ever. Been listening to them since the mid 80s. Your slideshow of Space is Deep is mind blowing.
Great slideshow indeed in total harmony with the song
Absolutely I wholeheartedly agree
This track introduced me to my mind.
I'm a Gilmour guy thru and thru....but I think this is what Syd was aiming for but never quite got there....and of course RIP Lemmy. Hope you reunited with Phil and Eddie up there.
Hypnotically mesmerizing, almost indescribably unique, similar to early Pink Floyd and yet strangely different.
Sorry but Nothing like PF at all…head an shoulders above them!
The kick in at 3:42 still gives me a rush. Beautiful track and the hard and soft mix was always psychedelic for me and still is. Lemmy your still one of my heroes all the best wherever you are.
Absolutely track, then and still the same now
I remember watching them at Glastonbury, before it went commercial
Yes where the bass kicks in absolutly Hawkwind at their best brilliance .

As fresh today as ever. FACT: Hawkwind continually become increasingly relevant as science and technology evolves.

Too challenging to many.
Too beautiful to those that let this in.
Been listening to this awesome song a lot more lately. R.I.P. Lemmy.

Mid part change, from 3:40ish is what God listens to and jams with angels while they traverse endless voids of the universe.
That key change at 3:40 and Simon King starts drumming again. Motorik.
Jerry K. Love That bit too, it's just perfect!
It's the switch from minor to major. They've been playing minor for sooo long, that when it comes, it's such a relief. HW do this a lot, in fact they're the masters of the build-up, for me it 's what makes them one of the great bands.
Great Music, the first time I heard of Hawkwind, was when I was deployed to Germany, '77 to '83. I still have records from them, great memories.
To the 17 people who gave this thumbs down . I hope you don't class your selves as hawk fans.
Best version this is from a very underrated outfit
This is really good stuff!
totally concur eye candy ear candy! 8 mins is long for me to stay glued to a tiny touch screen but this was great, top graphics to closely complement spacey music, droolingly lovely sight and sounds! Thank you! :)

Lemmy's finest bass "solo".
Common People by Pulp...anyone agree? Jarvis Knicker done a number on this one, love this track..love Hawkwind :)
Sounds like William Orb ripped it off to me for Madona
try meditating to this.
it's quite an experience.
Really love the video too x
This is 100s of shades of awesome! R.I.P. Lemmy.
Takes me far away from this planet, which is actually very helpful. I love the color variations this sound does to me.
📡📡📡
Hawkwind, por siempre, del infinito y más allá.
Dave Brock / HAWKWIND still rochin as no other✓ ✌️👁️👌👆💎
The Space Ritual.........Greatest unknown live album from back in the day of the epic journey to the fabled land of Thorasin!
Space is deep - space is groovy.
