I came here to share the link to the video, but you already went over it! Same here with Josh Jones, I was not a fan of him before that podcast, but he laid it out there, and spitting the truth.
Agree 💯, like they said in Zaldane’s podcast when a guy can come over from another country and win tournaments without having any experience, flipping or fishing shallow at all that says something.
The best part of THE BILGE podcast by the Zaldains is TRAIT!!! SHE'S HILARIOUS BECAUSE SHE CALLS BALLS AND STRIKES WITH STRAIGHT HEAT!!! And doesn't give A DAMN... If it hurts your feelings then oh well, if you think her questions are tough then get a helmet! 😂.. she's a real one! She's my favorite part of that duo for sure! 😂😂 They're podcast is awesome!! Josh is a cool dude too... he's not just a FFS guy, he's a HUGE ADVOCATE FOR THE SPORT, AND JUST FISHING AND WILDLIFE IN GENERAL!! He's super laid back and down to earth dude. Most people would not expect the kind of reactions and answers that he gives being a huge FFS guy.. and catching huge bass on a swim jig with barely any skirt on it and no trailer blows my mind every time I see him do it! ✌️
Getting closer Randy! Im glad to see you haven’t let this go since day one. We need more people out here that are so adamant about conservation and making sure the next generation can enjoy bass fishing as much as we do now.
I like how he said that people claiming it’s just a tool was strait up bs that livescope blows everything else away not even close it’s that good. Unfortunately Ray Scott ain’t around anymore So doubt they will do anything too much money
I respect your opinion and everyone else's opinions on FFS. Everyone is entitled to speaking their mind. The problem, as I see it, is that there is no data to support anything. It is all speculation. If you want something done about it for the fish, environmental issues, tournaments, and television ratings, you need to present the data to back up what you are fighting for. I am not saying you or anyone else is wrong or right, but you need to support your position with facts. Then, organizations will have the data to back up their decisions. Take care.
Where's the data that showed the A-rig was hurting the fisheries. They just assumed it was going to be bad just by the popularity of it. But now we NEED DATA for livescope to show it's impact on the sport?
@@edschmidtfishing Data helps to convince most people that there's actually harm being done on a large scale vs. people/organizations making decisions/opinions based on feelings.
So the average age in the AOY race in Bassmaster and the Opens isn’t enough data? And the young guys from across the pond with zero experience on US waters winning isn’t either? 😂
@edschmidtfishing I remember the A-rig was banned because of the amount of hooks allowed by the different state laws. Since tournaments are held throughout the country, the tournament organizations felt it would be too confusing for the anglers. So they banned the bait. At one of the meetings, I suggested that the rules already covered that by the statement that the angler must abide by the state rules and regulations. They didn't agree.
I agree! I'm not a tournament guy, but my buddy and I compete by caching them and letting them go immediately. Which is why I favor the catch/weigh/photo/release system. It may be a quantity over quality like MLF but it doesn't have to be with a Marshal in the boat. It will prolong the species, however, and that's what I want.
IMO everybody should know better than to fish for spawning bass. And if you catch from deeper than 30 feet you have to eat it. No release catch your limit and your done all sizes
Josh Jones is an Angler!! We have hacks out there but he is a true fisherman and continues to impress me with his skills. I am not a live scopng guy at all. I fish with as little electronics as I can get by with. That's just me and fishing is my happy place. I don't want electronics to get in the way of my mental health. I'm primitive for my own reasons. It would be different if I needed to fish for a reason.
I watched the entire interview. I like Chis Z, I learned a lot swimbait stuff from watching his stuff yrs Chis & Trey's podcast is great, they always talk about interesting topics & ask good questions.
The point that need to be stressed is ALL of the people who are putting fish in the live well just for the sake of taking a photo holding 5 fish at the same time. It’s illegal to posses more than 1 bass grater than 16 inches, but yet every Pro supported FB page is full of these photos of Non tournament anglers holding illegal fish. I wonder if people even fish for fun anymore…or if they just fish to post on social media.
Randy not sure if you new Josh started using it In crappie tournaments he tore up the crappie world with it an saw negatives with it I agree with you an josh 100%.. Make pro fishing great again..
Hey Randy, I have so much respect for you and what you're doing! FFS is really bad, it's going to ruin our Lakes in due time. One of the reasons I say it is because current care for bass isn't good, kinda reason why I stopped doing tournaments since I see these fish get tossed around, out of water for 2 to 5 minutes at weigh ins, right up until they're dropped back into the lake (waterless bags - since lazy Anglers can't take 10 secs to put water back in the bag). It's horrible care, I say lot of fish don't survive. There's just so many ways it can be better, but that's another discussion. What scares me about ffs is we have guys now pulling large fish going through that entire weigh in process vs proper care - tournaments should really be held accountable for care - stop tossing fish in basket, use stop watches, don't do tournaments 100 + degree weather, use mesh bags so Anglers can drop the fish back to their live well and back in the water at the boat ramp (sorry I did say that's another discussion). The issue with fishing is it's me now at the moment - vs being both enjoying the moment with proper fish care for future sustainability. They're just fish what people look at, but that's my pastime as with many others, we need to preserve our future.. 10lb plus fish were really hard to catch before, now easily being pulled with guys playing video games vs what fishing was intended for - using your intuition and enjoying the outdoors. We also have Anglers going out there to catch and eat, now it's easier to catch hogs and pull them out of our lakes - it's just all bad. It'll be too late before people realize.. The podcast was great, Josh is good dude and know proper care, putting fish in the live well for couple mins to recover, take a picture and release. You hit the nail on the head, It all comes down to money, conservation won't step in until these fisheries get really bad and by then it's too late and everyone loses. I know it's long comment, I'm just very passionate about taking care our fisheries. You're fighting a good fight, please don't ease up on the gas.
In my opinion any largmouth 4+ pounds should be weighed/ measured, quick pic & released. They shouldn't ever go into a live well & definitely shouldn't be eaten! It's 2023. 99.99% of us don't need keep bass to eat for survival! Their a sport fish & we should be doing anything we can to keep their populations healthy.
I agree with u but i feel all bass should be returned to the water. Put out noodles and eat catfish i would love to know how many pounds of filet’d bass get thrown away because of freezer burn
Respectfully, don’t agree with this comment. Two parts, nobody in the continuous 48 states has to eat wild game to survive. It’s typically always cheaper to buy tilapia in a store then it is to go fishing. BUT a lot of people out there like myself choose to eat a wild game diet and they should be able to keep and eat fish under regulated limits. Secondly, the notion of keeping no bass does not create a healthy fishery. There has to be population control
I’m glad a younger person said something. What’s crazy is he was saying the same exact things that randy had been saying for a while now. But he’s not getting labeled as crazy and outdated. It’s the truth, it is an overpowered technique and it’s taking that old school fishing out of play in the big tournaments. I don’t think that’s right, I want to see guys who have spend 15-20 years learning the skill and perfecting it. Not just some dude who learned how to look at a screen.
I hear you, & respect your position. I said 99% of us don't need to eat bass to survive, which is true these days. What I was trying to say we should be releasing the bigger 4+ lb bass. Keep & eat your limit of smaller 2-3 lb bass. I'm fine with that. That keeps bigger fish spawning & promoting better genes for future generations of bigger bass. It takes a long time for bass to get 5+ lbs! We humans are excellent at whipping out species! We are way better at taking than giving back to mother nature...
I recently saw a video on oxygenated live wells. Perhaps you could give us more info on this and if you believe it would help delayed mortality. It works wonders for saltwater fishing and is standard on all top level boats.
I use Livescope. Like all technology, it must be used responsibly. I use it to learn about fish , their habitats during different seasons and their reaction to my presentation. I rarely ever keep fish, and if I do it goes right on ice. I never live well fish. I used to fish tournaments, but the death rate of fish released after live well and weigh in, was enough to make me give it up. 5:42
Randy Jones is correct about getting rid of FFS in tournaments and it will not effect Sales to the public! The public are buying Fish tech in record numbers ! The only thing that will slow it down is Fish and Game commissions period!
I know it doesn't get as many clicks, views, or comments, but if you had the same passion for banning livewells and most tournaments (we very rarely hear about those subjects) as you do livescope, I think a lot more of us would think you actually care about the sustainability of bass fishing. Currently it seems like you pick and choose subjects that can pay your bills, livescope being your #1 moneymaker.
I’ll tell you something funny. About 7 years ago when I really got hooked on bass fishing and watched everything I could on RUclips, I thought the only thing that made an Elite series angler “Elite” was that they had to land their fish without a net. It would be interesting to see if a ban on FFS in the Elite series would re-elevate their image to the “highest” level of competitive fishing.
The technology has already changed the sport significantly. Most all tournaments are won with FFS. I can't watch guys fishing with it. It's boring & not impressive for a pro angler to find/catch fish & win with tournaments because of technology alone. A pro angler should be able to find & catch bass with their natural skills & intuition anywhere in the country any time of the year. That's what separates them for everyone else
I have a livescope myself and as a weekend angler, I enjoy the aid that the livescope gives you with deep water bass. But after watching both videos I have come around to agree with Randy’s point of view. As we move forward we need to consider the things that are necessary for conservation. It’s the reason tournament fishermen started catch and release was for the health of our fisheries. Just my 2 cents.
I watched it, gained a ton of respect for Josh and yes I love Zaldains podcast, open and honest to a fault. Although I would prefer it’s banned completely
Yeah I read that hardbait sales are way down compared to soft plastics. Also majority of manufacturers are marketing directly towards FFS baits. BASS needs to act now because if they wait another year or two it’s just that many more anglers that are solely reliant upon the use of FFS. Think of all the young anglers that will NeVeR learn basic fish finding strategies because now all they have to do is beam around and run just to head hunt!
Tournament fishing will change because of ffs....I never have fished a tournament but I never will either if they allow any type of fish finding device whatsoever....so that's how I feel about it...I can't wait for online live tournament fishing and Bass and mlf can suck it
I have said it before. I see so many boats at tournaments that are just loaded with electronics. What next? Shock Prongs to bring them to the top? Geez... I can see Fish and Wildlife getting involved in Live Scoping if the fish populations get decreased.
I don't have much money,so I don't worry about the $ guys.i feel any one w normal budget Dont needs all that. It's about efficiency, and normal 2d sonar and spot lock is all you need.and bring your skills. Not your unnecessary advantages to fish.
I'm not just agreeing because you do Randy. But when i watched that podcast a month ago,i said to myself. Josh is a good fella. He loves to LiveScope but at the same time he knows what's going to happen to the fisheries if it's not stopped. I'll tell ya what. It's the TRUTH!!! But the other guys just won't admit it because they are selfish and know they won't be able to go out and slaughter fish anymore.. Josh is caught between a rock and a hard spot. But he ain't afraid to tell the truth. Props to him.
Some tournament I've seen on TV where they have a dedicated person assigned to that boat and they have a hand scale and weigh the fish right there and they release it right away they take a picture and release it they should do all tournaments that way and if people don't like it oh well that's one thing I do like about the kayak permanent fisherman where is just by inches not by weight they take a picture with their cellphone on a on a measuring board and they release it right away
Really surprised to hear Josh say the same thing that we hear all the time “ It’s Boring to watch “ these tournament organizations can’t financially continue as a business with dropping viewership
42 degrees here in the hills of Tennessee this morning. We had our club championship this morning. I came in second with 7.73 lbs. 9.50 won phase one, we fish another lake Monday so I can still win this thing.
@@jaym8257 When talking about crappie, hybrids, stripers etc., most people are fishing for meat. Almost anybody that uses live bait is fishing for meat. Fish populations were much stronger even 20 years ago.
@@TomKirkman1 Yeah because the reservoirs were new and full of timber down here. If you want high fish populations either outlaw fishing, outlaw tournaments or outlaw something. Your assessment is anecdotal. Send me a link for the studies from the people who really know to prove your point. In the meantime I'm gonna stroll down to the dock this evening, drop the boat and go catch me some fish. I will release them. I even release the crappie unless I have a meal planned.
Hey Randy, I think the tv ratings might not show a big drop because we are loyal to our sport, yes the tournament is on my tv but I'm not watching because it's boring!
@@Garminrules not really, I catch and release on the smallmouth, I do eat a few small bass from some local lakes that are over ran with small fish, I wouldn't knife any over 2 lbs.
I don’t like that my thousands of hours on the water get thrown out the window because little Johnny bought a livescope. I personally have a livescope and see what it can do, but it’s not a pivotal thing that I have to have every time I go out. I know how to catch fish without it.
In this month's BassTimes, all of the baits used by the top 5 finishers Lake St. Clair Elites tournament results were small soft swimbaits on ballhead jigs or wacky. All the baits used by top 5 finishers on Lake Champlain Elites were soft swimbaits/flukes on ballhead jigs. IOWs, FFS baits: 10, everything else: 0. Just sayin'... 🙄
Yeah I remember seeing that tournament live on TV and the segment when they show a breakdown of the lures being used by the top 10. Even the announcer was like “and uhhh.. yet another similar similar swimbait ball head presentation”
Ya know I get people not liking bait coping but what company doesn't make soft plastic worms, flukes, swimbaits, ext... Thier all variations of same thing. So they all copy. If their a little different than that basically the standard for not copying. Who knows why Chris left megabass? I don't, do you? I may have been in his best interest, maybe he was getting screwed? Idk? He made a variation that's a little different. You can burn & slow roll his baits. Magdrafts have 1 speed. That's good enough for me. I'm not judging.
Its concerning to me that knowing these 15-16 yo giants are going to die after they are released.......wtf do these guys continue to fish for em? They do not care about the longevity of this sport.............they just wanna catch big bass....pathetic
As long as cost is ridiculous for ffs it will help, but you know when the cost drops down where anyone can get one,the fishing sport is going to suffer, if you see a mark, and cast on it,drag a bass in,when you might be fishing for trout, now he's just going to go for everything that shows up on the screen, you can buy a nice 55 in TV for dirt cheap,it's coming.
I'm a life long member of B.A.S.S. too and would love to see FFS allowed only in practice, not during the tournament. Either way, I support B.A.S.S. and will continue to watch their programming.
That 1 I will give yah , there ain’t no dam ( blue juice ) on the market that takes away from the fact that these big bass are jus not the same after being live welled all day … seen it for years I live on lake Champlain an when the tournaments are all done the classic 3 to 5 lb white bass ( dead bass ) start to litter the shoreline 20 year old fish dead ….
The Game & Fish Departments will only step in when it already too late. In many states, like here in Maryland, the directors are political appointments. The biologists, if they even care, are afraid to speak out on issues for fear of losing their jobs.
Have the fish and game departments lobby the Electronics companies for donations. Also, the Pro circuits should institute some of their tournaments during the season as "NO FFS/LIVESCOPER'.
We need a millionaire to promote a pro league no electronics at all no flasher paper maps compass allowed that would grow I believe like survivor On tv primitive people wanna see what would happen
All this started with Darrell Lowrance, inventor of fish-finder, this controversy is very old and never really changes. Lets go back to a cane pole and bobber if you really want to get back to basics🤣
How about all the big companies who are making money from us fishermen buying their products get ahead of this looming bass population issue and impliment programs country wide like the Share A Lunker program. Bottom line is if theres no bass, theres no bass fishermen to purchase thier products.
I think it will hurt the fish population in these lakes if you don’t know how to fish then it’s a big help but casting to fish that you know are there that’s not fishing it’s hunting? The fish have no place to rest and hide any longer so I’m gonna pass on live scope but to each his own but it’s not fishing
For dumb reason these people who so rely on livescope can't/don't want to fish if they don't have live scope on board, kinda pathetic in my opinion 🤣🤣🤣
What you see from these kids coming up is they can’t fish. They’ll go out off on points and ledges and chase lone bass all tournament with a jerkbait or dropshot. Those kids suck in close quarters fishing where their livescope is limited. Lots of them don’t like flipping and pitching.
decent video here. Though I disagree wholeheartedly… Saying we will deplete the bass population by using electronics is like saying, we can plug all the holes at the borders

Tournament fishing will change because of ffs....I never have fished a tournament but I never will either if they allow any type of fish finding device whatsoever....so that's how I feel about it...I can't wait for online live tournament fishing and Bass and mlf can suck it
Tournament fishing is doing more damage to bass than any technology
I have said it before. I see so many boats at tournaments that are just loaded with electronics. What next? Shock Prongs to bring them to the top? Geez... I can see Fish and Wildlife getting involved in Live Scoping if the fish populations get decreased.
I don't have much money,so I don't worry about the $ guys.i feel any one w normal budget Dont needs all that. It's about efficiency, and normal 2d sonar and spot lock is all you need.and bring your skills. Not your unnecessary advantages to fish.
You need merchandise Randy shirts and hats
Imagine the population of fish there would be if there were no electronics allowed 🤔
Would be the same. People mostly catch and release. You ever seen a thread when someone is pilloried for catching and cleaning bass?
@@jaym8257 My evidence comes from fishing those few lakes that are catch and release only. The fish are plentiful and BIG.
@@TomKirkman1 Anecdotal. I caught a bunch this evening. All catch and release. Like 90% of the fishermen on this lake.
Souldnt be allowed to keep fish during spawn
Hey Randy, I think the tv ratings might not show a big drop because we are loyal to our sport, yes the tournament is on my tv but I'm not watching because it's boring!
I eat bass. They are delicious. I find them on livescope. Easy to catch. Filet and cook on grill. Butter and garlic. Mmmmm
Tired of the clickbait. C-ya
That’s what’s killing the lure manufacturers. Margin for those little soft plastics is a lot tighter then wire or hard baits margin
As long as cost is ridiculous for ffs it will help, but you know when the cost drops down where anyone can get one,the fishing sport is going to suffer, if you see a mark, and cast on it,drag a bass in,when you might be fishing for trout, now he's just going to go for everything that shows up on the screen, you can buy a nice 55 in
TV for dirt cheap,it's coming.
Lifelong Bassmaster fan who will not watch another event until Livescope is outlawed.
I'm a life long member of B.A.S.S. too and would love to see FFS allowed only in practice, not during the tournament. Either way, I support B.A.S.S. and will continue to watch their programming.
It needs to be banned not 50 - 50 , ban it completely
That 1 I will give yah , there ain’t no dam ( blue juice ) on the market that takes away from the fact that these big bass are jus not the same after being live welled all day … seen it for years I live on lake Champlain an when the tournaments are all done the classic 3 to 5 lb white bass ( dead bass ) start to litter the shoreline 20 year old fish dead ….
I believe state conservation agencies will step in. Unfortunately probably not until they see decline in crappie and bass populations.
Next they'll be flying drones looking for schooling fish
That is already banned in some states, like Texas.
Need to fly drones to see what baits the "good" fishermen are using.
The Game & Fish Departments will only step in when it already too late. In many states, like here in Maryland, the directors are political appointments. The biologists, if they even care, are afraid to speak out on issues for fear of losing their jobs.
I can promise you the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will be last in doing anything if they do anything at all.
FFS probably DRAMATICALLY changed musky fishing. The musky guys never really talk about it though.
I used to watch all the derbies not now
I fish for fun, & catch & release. 99.99% of people don't need to kill & eat bass for food.
Got some heart breaking news for all you grumpy Gus types: they can’t enforce the rule even if they were to ban it so they never will.
I think it will hurt the fish population in these lakes if you don’t know how to fish then it’s a big help but casting to fish that you know are there that’s not fishing it’s hunting? The fish have no place to rest and hide any longer so I’m gonna pass on live scope but to each his own but it’s not fishing
Ban it!!!
Sounds like tournament fishing is the problem.
If BASS would do that I would go back to the BASS kayak series . There are a few that win all the time now due to it
funny jj hates randy lmao!!!
I think tournaments should be banned till after the spawn.
Who needs ffs? I fish with dynamite
Having a significant paying "non-FFS" category could be an option if an outright ban doesn't occur
Ehhhh
That interview was very strange to me, and didnt feel authentic at all. Felt like he got paid to say all that.
😂
decent video here. Though I disagree wholeheartedly… Saying we will deplete the bass population by using electronics is like saying, we can plug all the holes at the borders
Randy we need an episode about all the fish attractors put in lakes by conservation all that plastic is not good for the environment!
