Wow I'm actually quite surprised that this tool allowed me to downgrade from a brand new calculator with version 5.4.0 to 5.3.0. Thank you very much for sharing this!
i dont usually comment on youtube videos but this video has literally saved my life, the programme worked like a charm and im so grateful for your help! thanks a lot man :)
I have updated to 5.3.1 as well and it keeps giving me an error regarding the applications such as scitools and cabri that it doesn't work. Im not sure what to do now. Ive downgraded to 5.3.0 and still giving the same problems.
Huh, that's the first time I've heard of that happening. Though I'm not too surprised, OS 5.3.1 is super picky about which apps are 'valid' TI Apps and any outdated app could be considered invalid. What error is it giving you? You can fix this by using the links in the description and downgrading to OS 5.3.0 .
Yeah I’ve downgraded to 5.3 and it’s still giving the same problem. The ti connect CE software states that it’s failing to read to my calculator. Even when I use someone else’s calculator to transfer the apps, it’s freezes and doesn’t work.
Oh that's not normal behavior. Perhaps it's something else that's messing up your apps? Are *all* of the apps broken? When you run the apps, exactly what happens? When you try to send the apps, exactly what error does it give? Or does it completely freeze and make the calculator unusable? A simply fix could be to (archive all your programs first) perform a RAM reset. That will normally fix most issues. You may also want to try reinstalling the OS.
I’ve re installed the OS, rested the ram and set everything to defaults. Still giving me the dame problem when trying to put the pre installed ti apps from their website to my calculator.
Yes you could, TI lets you get the Asm84CEPrgm token from TI Connect CE and send it over, but that's just makes TI's ban even more pointless if they allow us to get it other ways.
I just got myself a new TI-84 Plus CE-T 5.3.1.0058. Do the downgrade tools work for the -T too?. How can I now get lowercase letters without the Asm84CEPrgm? I can edit within TI Connect, but not within the calculator. And also all the HEX codes are now useless.
Yes, the downgrade tool should work for The -T since it's basically the same calculator. There's no simple way to get the Asm84CEPrgm token with 5.3.1, I highly suggest you downgrade. If for whatever reason you can't, I can tell you a work-around.
@@TheLastMillennial Thanks. Without much ado I just followed the instructions and it worked. Now Asm84CEPrgm is active and I got lowercase letters. Looking forward to do some assembly now.
Thx for the os 5.3.0 Link. The OS 5.3.1 blocked programs from us and the OS 5.3.0, all unblocked. Awesome :) For now I guess I won't update. The OS 5.3.0 File (I'ma keep) will come in handy If the new update will EVER block me again.
*Updates:* *Disregard the following message since CERMASTR has been updated to work on all TI 84 Plus CEs again.* Due to recent hardware changes TI made to new TI 84 Plus CE's, prgmCERMASTR may not function for you. Please let me know if you're encountering any issues while attempting to downgrade!
Unfortunately that means your calculator is frozen and currently there's no way for you to downgrade. :(Press the reset button on the back of the calculator to get it back to normal.
I have version 5.6 is there any way i can downgrade? TI connect ce wont allow me to downgrade When i got my calculator it was on 5.3 but then i upgraded to 5.6 to realize i wanted to go back, is there any way i can return to the boot code? the downgrade tool wont work it sais "error invalid"
No. You will need to wait for an exploit to be released sometime in the unknown future. I will definitely make a video when it's released so stay tuned.
It could be because it's a command that runs on the calculator, but you just can't access it. It's more likely that TI was too lazy to remove it though :P
No, TI can't change your boot code. Often the boot code version is a similar version to the OS version the calculator was shipped with. So yours probably came with OS 5.1.5
Honestly I've kinda given up on the CE. Even though I have one of the best ones a person can own (Revision M with OS 5.4.0) I still don't like the way TI is headed with the CE. I'm probably gonna buy an OG 84+ soon if I can find a NOS one with the old I/O port present.
Press-To-Test mode 0:07TI includes it for teachers to restrict the functions of the calculator. Such as programs, apps, certain mathematical functions, and other things.
I apologize for the late reply, yes OS 5.4 still has the same restrictions as OS 5.3.1. However, as far as I know, the downgrade tool I mentioned in the video still works on OS 5.4.
Well that's intriguing, I'll ask the developer about that one. Try restarting TI connect or your computer and try again. I'd like to ask a few questions to make troubleshooting easier. What version of TI Connect CE do you have? (to find out click 'help' then the bottom option 'about TI Connect CE') Which OS are you running on your computer? Windows or Mac? What's your boot code on your calculator and what OS version are you running on it? How did you try to send the file? Through drag and drop or through the 'send from computer' button on TI Connect? I think one solution could be to uninstall TI Connect CE and instead install TiLP. It works with Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can learn more about it here: lpg.ticalc.org/prj_tilp/win32.html Please let me know if you get it working! :)
That's a good idea 12458, however I don't think that error would appear in this scenario. Sushant Patil, I'm still awaiting a reply from the developer, unfortunately he's very busy and hasn't had time to help, I'll keep trying though!
Oh. I tried getting the downgrade but then it said bad token. I think i have it figured out now! I have to drag the file to my calculator. I’ll reply when I get it done.
Is this process / tutorial known to work on TI84PCE's with BOOT Code 5.3.6.0017 BASE Code 5.4.0.0034 ? If it works I'm gonna snag another new 84PCE's from the same batch. I actually clicked Like, even though I don't even own a TI calculator! (I'm an HP guy myself.) But I too often wonder about those weirdos out there who seem to get on RUclips only for the SAKE of clicking Dislike on videos, with no reason at all. For truly, if you can't explain why you Dislike a video, you ought not to click Dislike! Then again, many people are creatures of illogic, so their reasoning is not easy to understand. Anyway, I've been mulling the purchase of a new TI-84 Plus CE calculator for my kids in high school when I came across your video. QUESTION. If I buy a new TI calc now from Amazon, I assume it won't come with the absolute latest OS, right? Thanks.
Thanks for your great comment and your like, I really appreciate it! :) Unfortunately, OS 5.3.1 has been out for several months (around 4) so if you get a CE from Amazon right now, it could very well have OS 5.3.1 installed on it. You may get lucky and receive one with OS 5.3.0 but I think that'd be too unlikely to hope for. Like I said in the video, there's a downgrade program so you can install OS 5.3.0 on the CE if it's really important to you. You may have better luck searching on Ebay (or a similar site) for used calculators with OS 5.3.0 since few people bother to update their calculator. Since you're debating which calculator to get for your kids, I'll tell you some of the best calculators to look at. > I have to say the CE is definitely the best, user-friendly calculator by TI; it'll be best for most highschoolers. > The Nspire is even more powerful but it's harder to learn to use; however, it'll probably last your kids through collage and even past that. > A great calculator I suggest you check out is the Numworks calculator. It costs about as much as the CE but it has better specifications to backup the price. Although it's very powerful for a calculator by today's standards, if you need a even more powerful calculator you may want to wait for a second generation. The next generation will allow for much more RAM (this allows more complex equations to be run) and more ROM (allows more stuff to be stored on the calculator). You can learn more about it at its site here: www.numworks.com/ > Another good calculator, if you're searching for power (and style), is the Casio classpad FX-CG500. It's super powerful but it stands out from other calculators because it has a huge touchscreen! I've messed around with it some and it seems very user friendly and very fast. You can learn more about it at its site here: www.casioeducation.com/products/calculators/graphing/fx-cg500 > Since you're an HP guy I'm sure you've seen the HP Prime. I haven't been able to use it personally, but from what I've heard, it's kind of like the Nspire and overall a great calculator. It also has a touch screen but it's much much smaller than the Casio classpad. You can learn more about it at its site here: www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/prime-graphing-calculator/overview.html > A suggestion on what *NOT* to get: Do not get the TI 84 Plus CSE. It was the predecessor of the TI 84 Plus CE but was abysmally slow due to its processor being the same as the monochrome TI 84s; the old processor was spending too many resources on powering the new color screen, this is what made it so slow. (The new TI 84 Plus CE has a newer, much more powerful processor so it can easily power the new screen and have plenty of resources to do calculations). The CSE is also barely supported by TI anymore. Although it will be much cheaper than the new TI 84 Plus CE, it is *not* worth the price difference. In conclusion, if your kids just need a calculator to get through highschool, go for the TI 84 Plus CE. If they need anything more powerful, check out one of the other calculators I suggested. :)
Thank you for the excellent comment with wonderful recommendations! It seems you won some of the calculator you recommended, so I must suggest that a comparison video here on RUclips would be absolutely superb! I did find one video here on RUclips about the Numworks entitled "Numworks Calculator: The Better TI-84?" which compares with the TI-84 Plus CE, which I find important because my daughter has been seriously considering the CE in light of her math instructors "STRONG recommendation" for a TI calculator at school. I also read in the HP Museum Forums that they have the Numworks firmware running on an HP Prime, which is rather interesting. (I have never used a Prime, but I used a 28S in engineering school and later bought a 48GX (with FRAM card) and a 50g.) Also, I see on the Numworks website that it is not yet on the CollegeBoard list of approved SAT/ACT calculators yet, but apparently it will starting in August 2018, which is critically important for any high school student in the USA. Thanks again!
I'd love to make a comparison video, however sadly, I don't own all those calculators. My friend actually owns most of them. He's a great guy and allows me to use them often so I may be able to get a video out, thanks for the suggestion! I also like that video you watched, the author is an online friend of mine. If the teacher strongly recommends a TI, then the teacher probably only knows how to operate a TI calculator. I've learned through experience that teachers calculator skills tend to break down the moment they see a new/ different brand. Therefor, the Numworks may confuse them and, unless your daughter is comfortable operating the Numworks, the teacher probably wont be able to help her find or use different commands. You could think of it in a different way though; if your daughter learns to use the Numworks calculator, she can end up teaching the teacher how to use it which would benefit the classroom in the long run. I don't know if programming is a strong factor in your decision, but I'm an avid programmer myself so I'll throw out some facts anyways. :P > The TI 84 Plus CE has the (arguably) best language for people who have never touched programmer before to learn. I actually started programming on my CE myself which is what got me interested in programming. The language is called TI BASIC and there's a great site for learning all about it here: tibasicdev.wikidot.com/home It has a great tutorial here: tibasicdev.wikidot.com/starter-kit and an awesome command index here: tibasicdev.wikidot.com/command-index > The CE also has support for programming in C! You can learn more about that along with a free emulator here: ce-programming.github.io/ > Really, BASIC is a easy, but under powered language, and C can seem daunting to learn. You can find a middle ground between the languages with a new language called ICE! ICE takes BASIC-like language (but it's styled after C) and compiles it into ASM code which allows for much more powerful programs! I'm currently learning it and it's my favorite language so far. You can learn more about it here: www.cemete.ch/t12616 > Lastly the CE is programmable in eZ80 assembly. It's not easy to learn but there are no barriers with what you can do! I don't have a tutorial for you, however there's a great calculator forum called Cemetech which has tons of great resources for learning programming! You can visit the site here: www.cemetech.net/ I've personally been a member for almost 2 years. It's a good, healthy community (98% of the time). > The TI 83 Premium CE (the French version of the TI 84 Plus CE) is getting Python support, however it'll likely be using external hardware to have Python support. This is unlike the Numworks which has Python already built in. Python support will be available in France sometime in 2019; there is no word yet if it'll be coming to the US though. I feel like I'm writing an essay every time I've commented a reply to you, so I congratulate you on making it all the way to the bottom! :P
I appreciate your essays! I too enjoy writing a lot, so much so that most people think I write too much. But some people who are like me and who love details don't mind. So as a fellow lover of details, I greatly appreciate your time in writing all you did. And since it is public here on RUclips it no doubt will benefit many others who come along and read it. I must be honest that even though I am still very much a lover of HP calculators, the fact remains that peer pressure in American educational institutions is strong. If your teacher recommends a TI calculator and if all your peers have one too, you as a young student feel like an outcast to have something different, even if it is a better device and one on the College Board approved list too. Most students care more about making their teacher happy so as to get good grades with the least amount of resistance than they do about fancy calculator features. Many parents probably understand this and so they don't push a different brand on their kids, which only works to tighten TI's monopolistic grip on American schools. I personally dislike the situation, but I also don't want to make my kids have a hard time at school either. Thank you for your kindness in commenting back to me to date. Most RUclipsrs don't do care to reply to their viewers, so I certainly appreciate the fact you so graciously provided many details for me to consider. Thank you and best wishes!
You shouldn't have anything to worry about, though I still have a few questions. Are you sure you actually downgraded? How long have you had your calculator? What BOOT code do you have? (Refer to 2:17 if you need help finding the BOOT code). Does your current OS say 5.3.0?
If you've had it for three years, then you're one of the lucky ones that can install any OS version you'd like! TI removed that ability about 2 years ago, but only in their new calculators.
Well, I have to say OS 5.3.0 (the version right before OS 5.3.1) is miles better than any previous OS, and you can still get it using the link in my description. I do suggest updating to it. :)
Unless you really need the fancy color screen and new programming opportunities, the monochrome TI 84 Plus will get you through school just fine. Although I recommend getting the TI 84 Plus SE (still monochrome) since it's a bit faster and more capable than the regular TI 84 Plus. Just to put this out there, do *not* buy the TI 84 Plus *CSE* it's a horrible, slow calculator and it'll make your math life just awful. :P
Lucky! OS 5.3.0 is a good upgrade. It's what I've been running since 2017 without issue. tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1138252 don't go any higher than that though.

Although it's very powerful for a calculator by today's standards, if you need a even more powerful calculator you may want to wait for a second generation. The next generation will allow for much more RAM (this allows more complex equations to be run) and more ROM (allows more stuff to be stored on the calculator). You can learn more about it at its site here: www.numworks.com/
> Another good calculator, if you're searching for power (and style), is the Casio classpad FX-CG500. It's super powerful but it stands out from other calculators because it has a huge touchscreen! I've messed around with it some and it seems very user friendly and very fast. You can learn more about it at its site here: www.casioeducation.com/products/calculators/graphing/fx-cg500
> Since you're an HP guy I'm sure you've seen the HP Prime. I haven't been able to use it personally, but from what I've heard, it's kind of like the Nspire and overall a great calculator. It also has a touch screen but it's much much smaller than the Casio classpad. You can learn more about it at its site here: www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/prime-graphing-calculator/overview.html
> A suggestion on what *NOT* to get: Do not get the TI 84 Plus CSE.
> The TI 84 Plus CE has the (arguably) best language for people who have never touched programmer before to learn. I actually started programming on my CE myself which is what got me interested in programming. The language is called TI BASIC and there's a great site for learning all about it here: tibasicdev.wikidot.com/home
It has a great tutorial here: tibasicdev.wikidot.com/starter-kit and an awesome command index here: tibasicdev.wikidot.com/command-index
> The CE also has support for programming in C! You can learn more about that along with a free emulator here: ce-programming.github.io/
> Really, BASIC is a easy, but under powered language, and C can seem daunting to learn. You can find a middle ground between the languages with a new language called ICE! ICE takes BASIC-like language (but it's styled after C) and compiles it into ASM code which allows for much more powerful programs! I'm currently learning it and it's my favorite language so far. You can learn more about it here: www.cemete.ch/t12616
> Lastly the CE is programmable in eZ80 assembly.
When your about to update your calculator, glad I noticed this.
Glad you found it useful!
i didnt use the downgrade and i was able to just install the older software with your link. anything i should be worried ab?
You shouldn't have anything to worry about, though I still have a few questions. Are you sure you actually downgraded? How long have you had your calculator? What BOOT code do you have? (Refer to 2:17 if you need help finding the BOOT code). Does your current OS say 5.3.0?
TheLastMillennial had calculator for ab 3 years and the OS does say 5.3.0
If you've had it for three years, then you're one of the lucky ones that can install any OS version you'd like! TI removed that ability about 2 years ago, but only in their new calculators.
Jokes on you. I have 5.0.1, so I have Asm84CEPrgm.
Well, I have to say OS 5.3.0 (the version right before OS 5.3.1) is miles better than any previous OS, and you can still get it using the link in my description. I do suggest updating to it. :)
Probably why I felt like getting a standard TI-84 Plus.
Bruh it have 3.4.0 when gotten
Well, you can still downgrade it. ;)
Thank you
Me, who bought a calculator from college that came with 5.2.2: 😅
Lucky! OS 5.3.0 is a good upgrade. It's what I've been running since 2017 without issue. tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1138252 don't go any higher than that though.
somthing seems suspicious here
Exactly what does?
I’m at 5.3.1 but at least I’m not at 5.5
You can still downgrade if you want
TheLastMillennial I commented that before I watched the whole video
Thx
No problem!
