Direct from the 2017 Honda Civic Press Kit:
"The 2017 Civic Si Sedan and Coupe are the eighth iteration of Si, Civic's legendary, enthusiast-oriented Civic variant, whose roots in America date to the 1985 debut of the Civic CRX Si. The new Civic Si is based on the 10th-generation Civic platform, the most comprehensive and performance-minded remake in the model's 44-year history, and substantially advanced the fun, fast and agile nature of Si.
The 2017 Si Sedan and Si Coupe are the first Si models to use turbocharged engines, utilizing an upgraded, high-boost version of the 1.5-liter direct-injected and turbocharged new powerplant that made its U.S. debut in the 2016 Civic Sedan. The new Honda AP2 engine offers drivers more power and torque down low, with a minimum of turbo lag along with a fatter power band, compared to previous, normally aspirated models. All Si models come equipped with a slick-shifting 6-speed manual transmission.
The new Civic Si also benefits from the extensive remake of the 10th-generation Civic platform - which was benchmarked against luxury C-class competitors for ride, handling, steering precision and high-speed stability - and are further enhanced by Si-exclusive chassis tuning and engineering and Si-exclusive performance bits, including a helical limited-slip differential and new Adaptive Damper System and variable-ratio electric power steering. The upgraded performance capabilities of Si are matched by extensive exterior and interior upgrades that strongly distinguish Si from its more mainstream Sedan and Coupe counterparts."

NEW VIDEO EVERY WEDNESDAY!
R.I.P. high revving Hondas. You will be missed.
Thank god for no more high reving Honda civics. They just sound like a old fart you've been holding in for 8 hours until you went home and took a dump.
try to telling this to any c3 corvette owner ;)
woop woop opinion alert woop woop
Zdenek Leitner c3s are Garbage
Yea, I'd end up blowing a new Honda up. Used to hitting 7k in every gear in the Prelude.
This is the best review on this car so far. You actually properly explained what it drove like. Everyone else just focused on features and stats and finished with a piss poor generic " it's a great value" impression. You are the 1st reviewer that can't be replaced with a 5 second Google search. Congrats!
Ha, thanks!
Agreed. You have a strong future in journalism, obviously. Look forward to more stuff.
The combination of Carlos and your personalities made for one of my favorite car reviews!
Sarah -n- Tuned I'm subscribed to u you're very pretty 😛
Bruce Wayne Thank you 😊
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
This is a better pairing than any combination of modern Top Gear hosts
Really? I found it awkward. When Carlos would try to crack a joke, it was like it went right over this guys head.
no more VTEC KIKED IN YO memes
Type R with 2.0L turbo will still have VTEC, but no more with the 1.5L turbo.
I wonder why they removed it, considering the 1.5 turbo in the base civic DOES have vtec
Will you review the TypeR?
Omer Humayun Actually none of the 1.5 L engines have vtec. In some markets it's branded as "vtec turbo" but the engine only has VTC and not true VTEC
did not know that. thanks for the info
Enjoyed riding shotgun. Let's do it again sometime!
+Carlos Lago thanks Carlos! Absolutely!
You still enjoy double stuffed burritos on shoots ???
@@terryl9996 why ??? and not ?
Honda released a turbo car back in the 80's. The Honda City Turbo!
boosted_turtle86 not for the US market
William Scott Yep, like they said, turbo jetski was it.
boosted_turtle86 What about the CRV? ;)
Honda had a turbo charged motorcycle back in the day as well. The statement about the personal water craft was completely incorrect.
Honda CX500TC in 1982
I have an 18 four door Si and it’s fantastic. The handling is amazing. I’ve owned a lot of Honda’s and it’s the best one. I have an 2000 Si with a B16 and a 90 civic hatch with a b16, both rev to the moon but man this new turbo engine is great.
Bought the red coupe last November. I was very hesitant at first, because it was my first time not having a VW since 2004 and I’m afraid of change. Now it’s six months later and I am very happy with my decision.
when that vte.. i mean boost kicks in
with Subaru's D.I.T. (Dank Injected Turbo) which it gives more...
D A N K ;-)
I know this is an old vid, but hearing Jason say damper/damping correctly warms the cockles of my heart.
To think four years later the Civic SI now costs $27,300 and does not have adaptive dampers.
Never miss an EE video - great knowledge conveyed with style.
I appreciate it!
Engineering Explained Would you recommend this car to someone who wants something sporty but also lives in an area where v8 muscle cars won't do well in the winter? I was considering a new WRX but it comes out to being $8000+ more expensive than this where I live and that's before options.
to be honest, a fiesta st, focus st, civic si, or sentra ser fits. It just depends on features and brand name if thats your thing. Best way to find out is to go to the dealership and sit in the cars and test all the features and test drive them. All 4 cars are the same for a sporty beater, its only the little things that are the differentials.
Bunthoeun Has the golf gti is better equiped than all of them except for the differential
Ricky Good I forgot about the golf lol
Great review, I always love watching your stuff Jason. I used your explanation videos to teach my dad about cars and got him hooked on you too, and he's not even a car person!
That's awesome, thanks for sharing with him!
You bought Doug demuro's old mic.
Still had a little slobber on it.
Engineering Explained
I bet he tried to charge extra for that. Did you get the bumper to bumper warranty?
Engineering Explained
does the slobber smell of old cheese and cucumbers?
+boofighter I wish there was a column in a website where I could read more about his thoughts on the mic

People have been turboing civics since they were made, and FINALLY they offer it.
Daniel Askey and now people are upset haha! the grass is always greener
MOST people who turbo' their civic are brain dead morons. You can''t compare braindead idiots to factory engineering.
Ehh
NotAsian because turbo civics are actually exciting. This is just meh.
because those Hondas had VTEC as well as turbo, this is just some economy engine appearance package
It's much better as a daily driver now with the torque lower down. I don't miss the VTech because I don't drive at 7000 RPM all the time. I've had a 2006 and the 2013 SI and I think this is the best one so far for 2017 and up. Now I have a 2019 Coupe in white and I love it.
I'd still rather have a NA VTEC engine than a puny 1.5 out of a vacuum cleaner.
hah, that's a fast vacuum cleaner.
Displacement means less now than it ever has. Not that you'll get the same power as a 6 liter, but 1.5's aren't just for hybrids.
Ryan Cowtan uwot??? No it doesnt
Ryan Cowtan where did you hear that? lol
1.5 is irrelevant when boost is introduced. Boost = displacement. For every 14.5psi, you double the atmospheric displacement and double the effective engine size of the engine. I'm an N/A guy, but you can't deny that turbos are the way of the future.
I'm sure tuning out that rev hang will help. I test drove one today, and I was absolutely sold on it. my ONLY complaint was the clutch being as vague and hard to feel as it is.
Perfect drawing of a Volvo on the whiteboard.
Thank you, spent weeks planning that.
7:25 Hondata has a tune that prevents that, it revs normally
1.5l in an si? why not have the 2.4l engine with the turbo for the si? I guess they have to keep a difference between the si and the type r.
Exactly.
2.0T should be in the SI and 2.4T should be the Type R. They purposely make it slower and uglier than the future plan.
1st generation Acura RDX was the first Honda mass produced product in the United States to offer a Turbo 4 Cylinder.
Should have both. Vtec & turbo.
times change, we always added turbos, now they come stock. that's a bonus in my book,
one of the largest reasons I believe they separated the epas motor is because the way almost all newer racks are designed. I make racks for nexteer (supplies steering components for many major brands) and almost all the newer racks are half ball screw half teeth. The tooth end is what is controlled by the pinion connecting to the steering wheel and the motor actuates a ballnut to assist in moving the rack. I'm glad they went with a ballnut as they have next to no slop (unlike a normal rack and pinion gear tooth setup)
I think it looks amazing but not a big fan of the smaller motor with a turbo, a 2.4 with VTec is just about right for me
2.4 vtec is 6 mpg worse fuel economy. Why wouldn't u want the smaller engine?
I see a lot of people complain about rev hang. I think it is advantageous in a turbo car with a 5 speed. On a normal turbo'd 5 speed, as soon as you upshift and the rev drops, boost pressure goes down. In a track situation, this is bad because now you have to wait for the turbo to spool backup and the power to come back on. That will hurt your lap time. With the rev hang, boost pressure is maintained, hence as soon as you slam up to the next gear, power is there since it never left.
Why not Turbo AND V-TEC at the same time -.^?
Andreas upsidedown that's reserved for the type-r
I test drove this car it goes pretty quick. That turbo wakes this motor up. It was exhilarating to drive Honda got it finally right.
Good review, thanks Jason. There will be many sad to see the end of Vtech magic. Any car maker can make a fwd turbo. But only one could make an 8,000 RPM exiting fwd car. RIP Honda.
Carlos has adopted the posture of a man that is completely comfortable with your driving!
I need my E-brake. Not some switch. That was a shocker for me. That said, I'm still really looking at getting that 2 or 4dr Si 6pd.
Ahh, another thing I forgot to mention. Agreed completely - manual transmission vehicles should come with hand-brakes, not switches.
I think electronic parking brakes really should be banned for safety reasons as the E-brake traditionally was an emergency brake that you can use if your main brakes fail.
I once saved a vehicle from a crashing using the E-brake when a brake line broke.
Membrane556 you mean E doesn't stand for electric? lol
Is it possible to retrofit one?
Honest to god, what Membrane556 said. I love the fact that my car has a method of emergency braking that is fully mechanical, and does not rely on electronics to govern it. In a world where everything is becoming automatic/glass/electronic, some things just need to stay the same. Even the most advanced passenger airliners have mechanical methods of deploying the landing gear, so there's just no excuse for a family sedan not to have the same thing.
old Civics forever! care for them ppl. They will become rare with their character.
I'm sure no salesman at the Honda dealers knows any of these...
you have one of the best automotive journalists around in Carlos Lago and didn't get any input from him. C'MON man!
+Gabe Lohr well it's not his channel haha. If you want Carlos's thoughts on it, check out Edmunds.com for his review.
Honda/Acura made the 2007 Acura RDX turbo. That was a good Suv.
LuckyRBZ Indeed it was, until I totaled it lol. Thing was torquey as hell
my mom has one and I always thought what if they took that powertrain and put it in the 8th gen si......that would have been amazing
Skylar Garrett . Yes your right. It did not feel like driving an SUV. It handled like a sports car.
LuckyRBZ my Tahoe handles like a sports car
jayjaylen75 lol douche
I cannot understate how amazing it is that Carlos Lago, the longtime host of MotorTrend's "Ignition" is in the passenger seat of the car you're driving. He is trying his best not to make faces as you provide honest, uber-in-depth reporting on the SI. He knows how to take it around a track, but discussion of the components seems to be lacking at MT/Edmunds. At least in their videos. Lago should be taking notes.
Good car, i don't think that the new civic is "too riced up" like some people are saying, it"s just a new style maybe not for everyone but it's very attractive. Using a turbo in such a small engine in a small and light car and making that HP numbers sounds great no matter what hahahaha,
Good review, I really enjoy how you evaluate cars and explain the technology involved in it.
I have a 2017 Touring Coupe. I am a Canadian and have recently had some tweaks done to my car through a recall.
The fixes are in regard to oil dilution issues surrounding the 1.5L engine.
I haven't had any of the symptoms they spoke of (rise in oil level, gas smell).
I live in the countryside and tend to drive longer distances so this will apparently either alleviate or reduce oil dilution issues.
Where I live it gets very, very cold come winter, like -20F. This does not help matters.
Honda Canada has done the following:
- Changed the oil.
- Zapped the climate control module.
- Zapped the CVT.
- Adjusted the fuel injection parameters.
- Added 3 years to certain engine components i.e. (cam bearings because of possible icing of bearings due to water accumulation in oil.)
I have asked Honda what the exact changes are and how they affect the performance of the engine.
So far I have not been given a detailed answer.
Can you help with this?
Thanks
Ian
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
I was hearing road noise during the whole video, is it really that noisy?🤔
abdulaziz alsager
It's only 2900 lbs so it would be more surprising if it wasn't somewhat noisy.
XxChuyoxX i have driven 1.8l Civic and it wasn't noisy and that what made me question the sound I was hearing.
Any japanese car is noisy these days. They don't care about refinement and driving pleasure these days, only sticker price.
abdulaziz alsager on camera the noise is always worse than real life. because the microphone picks up the low frequency road noise better than a human ear.
its a 24k honda lol. i have a 8th gen si there is definitely road and wind noise
I have owned a 93 B18 Integra GSR, and 00 B16 Civic Si. Naturally aspirated DOHC goodness. Then I had a 03 EP3 Civic Si and it was a fake VTEC Turd. No balls. Done with Honda and their boy racer styling. I switched to a 10 MK6 GTI and now a 17 MK7 GTI. Turbo baby! I'm getting a conservative 220hp and 256tq from the GTI for 26K out the door...with LSD, and 32 mpg's combined.
I do love Honda’s tho! One of the best handling and gas saving cars out there! Keep it up Honda!!!
I dont know why people hate the civic so much. You get a really nice package for that price point.
Honda's personal water craft was called the Aquatrax.
RAHMX145 IT'S CALLED A JET SKI!!!!!! blargaggrgagrga!
It's about time Honda joined the Turbo world.
The poor throttle response, rev hang, lack of feel in the steering, and short meaty power band is everything a Civic Si is not. This may be a good car, but it seems like a terrible civic Si.
jayjaylen75 I think Matt farah was saying a lighter flywheel would probably remedy the rev hang but from the sounds of it it seems to be a programmed thing. If that's the case maybe hondata will have a fix. Either way I just don't see these cars being as fun as say the 99-00 Si or 06-16 Si. There probably is a lot of power left in these engines with a larger turbo, but that is fundamentally opposed to what Si's have always been.
Honda won't fix that, but a tune might. Changing a flywheel on a new car? You just voided the warranty.
Ben Brunk true, but hope then lies waiting in the wings, for when your warranty is up.
Ben Brunk Not so on the warranty. Only if the aftermarket flywheel causes something else to fail, that failed part isn't covered. The rest of the warranty on everything else is not effected.
Its 24k for that money its a great car.
I wish Carlos was doing the driving and talking. He gives a great, technical and interesting review. I hope Edmunds uses him more in video.
time to pick up a 8th and 9th gen civic si!
I just got my 2020 Honda Civic si coupe,I’m 5’2 and am having problems reaching the seatbelt, from the back, any ideas
Nice job on this Honda, but I rather pay $1,500 more for the Golf GTi.
My man!
Bad comment at this time, you should have stayed quiet on this one. Let me me just McLaren Honda and most recent the Honda engine that powered Fernando Alonso at the Indianapolis 500... Total joke. But my Honda mower does pretty well though.
wow...such a compelling argument....because racecar engines are exactly what is in the factory Civic.
Xavier Lemos that's a basic GTI with halogen lights, single zone climate, no diff and etc
Why you hating on this car? It comes standard with a 6-speed and LSD! An LSD is an optional extra even on a Golf GTI, and isn't even offered on a Fiesta ST. Weighs as much as Fiesta, yet has more standard features than a fully-equipped GTI. And it's reliable. What's not to like?
Two of my favorite car reviewers! One of the best car reviews I've seen
would upgrade to the new si but that 1.5 is a deal breaker.
Awesome review and explanation of the pros and cons with this new Honda Civic. Another car goes turbo!
has anyone else noticed that a lot of these new cars coming out have good horse power but they don't tell you how heavy they are, it's the reason why these cars need more power , because they are fat 🙂👈
I mentioned in the video it's 2900 lbs.
Engineering Explained yeah I know I'm just saying that these commercials lately are mentioning horse power compared to other brands but the cars of today are heavier than yesterday's but not all of them 👌 love your videos BTW I would never criticise your videos 👍
H3ntairican this new Si and the GTI are both lighter than their predecessors
Austin Apt that's awesome I hope to see more manufacturers heading this route
Austin Apt by how much?
the best 2 people to geek out in a car. i love it
This car will have no modding capability. 20psi and 205hp?!?! A k24 is WAY better. They should of just strapped a turbo to that
No modding capability? Tell that to Vit Viper who's gotten up to 100 lbs/ ft. tq, and 60-70 HP over stock on just a tune, on the stock turbo. The car can be pushed beyond that, but the stock clutch can't handle the power. They're also working on turbo upgrades. Supposedly the car is making over 300 HP with an upgraded turbo in China.
Where are you getting this information? I'm really curious. I myself thought that the Si was at its peak, maybe 30-40 sure. but 60-70?!
Most turbo cars have tons of modding potential. Free up some air flow, turn up the boost and tune it out and you're in business.
Having owned both an NSX & a Prelude SH, I anticipated the new Civic Si with great expectations. However, I am less than impressed with the car that Honda has produced. One of the deal killers for the 1st gen. Hyundai Genesis Coupe was rev hang. I could not tolerate it in that car, and wouldn't accept it with this car either. This car will appeal to a whole new audience than the previous VTEC equipped Si's - one that values gas mileage, interior amenities & media features over performance. And let's be honest: from any angle, this thing is just plain fugly. Excellent review & whiteboard presentation, EE.
As if the ride-along cameo with Carlos Lago wasn't enough of a bonus, you also integrated a white-board session into this review as well? Very impressive, indeed!
But when you mentioned that your S2k was your daily, I was under the impression that your Crosstrek was your everyday car and your S2k was a weekend car. Or is your garage strategy more of a summer car/winter car?
Oh I don't know haha. I have two cars and drive them depending on the weather and what I feel like.
The LSD is a major selling point. More manufacturers of hot hatches should include it as standard
Honda is cool but I wish we could get a new RWD or AWD sports car
that would be nice i have always felt the same way
My Honda Accord Coupe is about the same. My only complaint is that I could fall a sleep driving my car. To me, I love it but hate it at the same time. It’s just dangerously comfortable.
isn't Carlos lago still working with motor trend?
+ricardo rocha haha as he says... he's working for Edmunds.
He left Motor Trend again?
interested in this also
I think he was a great host on motor trend, I never saw the end of the build of the 240LS.
Both these guys need to team up and make a car review channel. I like them both.
I thought Carlos went back to MotorTrend???
The Acura RDX was turbo earlier then they switched to the 3.5L v6 then they went turbo again. Turbo is cool and all but I prefer my all motor setup on the track simple and reliable when you are constantly beating on it on the track. Besides not a lot of people can actually open full potential of even 150whp on the track. Driver skill counts more than power. Unless drag racing then power is everything if your can hook
what SI means? Thanks in advance.
Sports Injection
+ey b0ss thank you
+John Tomasello thank you
Yes. #BadJokes It stands for "Sport Injected"
According to Honda, Si stands for "Sport Injection" instead of "Sports Injection" or "Sport Injected". hondanews.com/honda-automobiles/channels/Model-Press-Kit/releases/honda-civic-si-history
The red coupe is one of the best looking versions.
Ah, good old Larlos Cago. I haven't seen him in a while.
In NoVa, you can walk out of the dealer w/ a base Gti for $21,500 cash (yes after tax) or walk out w/ a Sport for $24,800 cash (after taxes, the sport has the LSD and upgraded lights).
Civic is a marvelous car.
You are misinformed about the current Gti pricing.
20psi and only 205hp😑
They're making 280 with tune and downpipe it's amazing actually now that they're being modified. Engine is actually breaths very well
rmblwgn
Lawl Id like to see proof of that. You’re gonna need more than that to get 280
@@johnbarron2698 So yes it does take a little more work as stage 2 yields around 280 ft/lbs torque and 240hp BUT with simple turbo swap/intake/stock catback &fueling/e85 PRL motorsports is making 365 HP!!!!
It’s good for a 1.5l. I sounded what AMG could do with it. They get 375 out of a 2 liter lol.
1.5 engine THO!!!!🐢
I compared this to my 09 Si with 189k KM on it. I was amazed that the 17 only pulled a few feet on me in multiple tests.
yo
This video is cool without Carlos Lago, but even cooler with both of you together in 1 car
my 2013 honda civic si with VTEC > the 2017 honda civic si without VTEC
R.J. Arsenault Big Block 2.4
R.J. Arsenault the type r has vtec
oh buddy I know! I'm just disappointed in the 2017 si :P Type R is my next civic
My 2014 Civic EX with VTEC > your Civic. Mine has more technology. Fact.
Zuby A yeah but yours is slower..
I have a 2016 Accord Sport 6 speed. Yesterday, I went to Honda dealership here in town that has one 2017 Si in stock (4 door). After driving it for 10-12 minutes and few quick accelerations and shifts, I decided not to even consider trading the Accord. First of all, Honda went into unknown territory for them by going with the turbo. That little engine to produce 205 hp means that turbo is going to be getting smoking hot all the time which in turn means oil build up and failure before 50K miles. Second, seats are absurdly rough, the type that should be on the Type R, not the Si that is half family car, half sporty car. This isn't a car you can drive more than few hours before it starts to hurt. Third, it is SMALL inside! Wow, it so so crammed that I felt claustrophobic in it. When I got back in my Accord, I felt like I just sat into a first class seat on the 747. No way the Si is worth $25,000.00.
Boo, VTEC 4life
I see alot of debate in the comments about the 20psi of boost and only 205hp. Keep in mind boost pressure is RESISTANCE to airflow. More FLOW = less boost(unless compensated for) and more power. I mean Nissan does have a 1.5 that makes 400hp and weighs 88 pounds. Surely that doesnt run on 60lbs of boost...
But the GTI is worth the extra cost, is better built, more comfortable and is by far more tunable
But you get better gas mileage in the SI. The Golf you only get 25 city / 33 highway. SI 28 City/ 38 highway plus Honda's are more reliable and cheaper to fix!
And that jet ski was freaking awesome
Why the hell would they only put a 1.5L in it? Thats like a lawn mower
WithTheBears just because a powerful engine is small, doesn't mean it's bad.
Luke Lenci yea but you have like no upgradabilty now, before you could slap on a turbo to your k20 civic si and have 300+ hp, not anymore
The Hondata tuning has gotten pretty good results on the normal engine, I believe they'll be able to get around 300 with the bigger turbo.
Mr_NarwhaL There are already custom kits out there (mainly bigger turbo) that push over 300hp.
Mr_NarwhaL that's because now you're supposed to get the Type R
Depends on the volume of air really, Like the focus ST it has 22 psi but tapers to 14 psi at redline due to exhaust housing size, but if you run a larger turbo one correctly sized to maintain boost levels at the same 22 psi that can carry it to redline, Its much more power but same amount of pressure. It is flowing more volume.
205 hp at 20psi?!? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Considering the 1.4L Fiat 124 engine makes 160 HP on 22 psi, this engine's output isn't all that crazy like you imply. Engine size plays a big role, obviously.
Engineering Explained but the jdm 1983-85 12a turbo Mazda savanna rx7 made 165hp with a 1.1liter engine and 5 to 6 psi with no intercooler. why can't they improve the turbocharger efficiency after 30+ years?
It won't need an oil-change every 2000 miles
TheAlex0903 the rx7 is a rotary engine. Of course it will make more power per liter than a cylinder engine. It's a completely different design.
That's pretty good at a 2.5 atmosphere pressure. With the RPM, this engine would probalby make 90HP without boost, so the 205HP checks out well.
Carloooos we miss you....
Did ricers approve this decision?
ivcars003 no, they didn't. Still under review. Will get back to you asap with their decision. Please stand by.
No high rpm = no from me I love my 9,000rpm b16 in my 900kg Honda Civic Mario kart editon new civic is Accord and Accord is now Honda oddesey with lower roof line, Honda oddesey is uhaul truck
Carlos must have forgotten about Honda's CX series of motorcycles. Both a CX500 Turbo and CX650 Turbo were sold in the very early 80's. Had a CX650 at my local Honda dealer. These pre-date the jet skis by a sizable margin.
Won't ever consider it. Prefer me and my wife's boosted 9th gen and 8th gen si's
With regard to the comment about the Si being comfortable. I think it's a good thing. Like Matt said in his MX-5 one take, people who want to modify their cars, will modify their cars whatever the suspension tune is; and it's easier to go stiffer than softer. So might as well give it a capable but comfortable daily driven set-up.
Terrible move by Honda.
Man, Carlos Lago tagging along??? Sweet! You better stop saying "And so" and "so" as filler words 😂 You are in the big house now! Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your videos.
First 2017 civic si recall: Turbocharger, second recall: wastegate third recall: turbo system... back to lawn mower engines
Stay Boosted its a Civic not a bmw. itll be fine.
Saul Ferrer or a crappy vw
Engineering explained you are a God send to the car community. I hope you know that it's a blessing that you have found your niche using your mechanical engineering background. None of these reviewers go in depth as you. They review features or specs you do mechanical details. Great job and I am sure you will reach 2 mil subscribers in no time. However, price point aside which do you think is the better overall performing car. The Gti or Si? I am planning to pick up a refreshed mk7.5 model this fall. Test drove the 2017 gti se 6 speed manual and was blown away. My cousin has a 2013 civic Si. Pretty decent performing car but never really cared for honda except for the jdm type R's as I am from the Caribbean islands.
lmfao finally honda went from lawn mower engines to car engines, bout time. now i will consider buying one depending on the ricer stereotypes
+Stay Boosted don't worry about what others think and buy what you enjoy! :)
and just to think more reliability and options to tune than a shitbox VW engine! yaah!
I feel you i do buy what i enjoy nobody tells me what to do, but i dont enjoy lots of hate.
Rubber Rocket Gti S with software is 310 hp and 360 torque at 3025 lbs and looks like a car. There are hundreds of examples making much more and reliability has been excellent. Have you ever owned a VW or just play expert online?
Stay Boosted they actually reduced the displacement so your comment really makes no sense.
The rev hang as an emissions thing makes sense, think of a car with an aggressive tune, you close the throttle and you get unburnt fuel coming out the exhaust and burning there, which bypasses all the emissions controls. I'm sure this isn't tuned rich enough to actually backfire like that, but I bet they're still trying to close the throttle slowly so that they avoid that small amount of unburnt fuel.
I hate civics and the fact that they wont add more hp to each new generation only makes me think wtf are they doing?
the average consumer doesn't really care about power they just want a "sporty" car with good fuel economy
123DwyaneWade456 civic si is supposed to be slightly faster but a much better handling car over the base models. that was the original intention of the Si moniker
+Simba TheGreat it's the same chassis with a marginally stiffer suspension. You throw better tires on a base model and it will out-handle a stock SI. The base models also weigh less.
You know hp is not the most important factor right??
Why are you so obsessed with power? Weight is important too. Dwayne Wade the imposter!
I like the price, I bought a new si in 07 and it was around 21k. this offers more, has some cool tech, and Honda kept the price very reasonable. If I hadn't already supercharged my 09 Si and still enjoy it and get reliable service from it then id consider this... i'm just not interested in getting a new car for a while. I like the turbo, but the si's high revving heritage will always be desired for me...
sorry but civics look so riced out, would never consider buying one regardless how good the car may be...
Thats like saying I would never buy a Challenger because they look like a brick and I dont care about power, I just hate bricks..
what does riced out mean?
jpchevron idk what this guy is talking about they don't look riced out at all. But rice is like putting a fake hood scoop on a car just for the looks, or spray painting wheels, or putting a terrible looking tasteless body kit on a car. This car is no where near rice though.
Kalle Grabowski agree. Albeit never wanted a civic😑. The newest civic looks like it should at least have 350hp from factory judging by its look. It even has the lambo front air ducts...it almost looks identical. But oh wait...it's solid plastic, not through...
Kalle Grabowski get back in the kitchen
The GTC I have has the same type of electronic assisted steering on the rack, it works very well. It's either that or the hyperstut set up. But together it makes it very direct and fun.
these Hondas are butt ugly
Nay Cee you're butt ugly
Claudia Andrade 💔
Is the engine reliable? What problems is it known for what is the life of the engine and can it handle boost?
20 peak psi only 205 hp and 190lbs torque!!!? lololol Honda should of sticked with s2000 as there sports car. These si's are just complete garbage lol.
for the displacement and pressure, the numbers check out.
Stephen Baker why would you buy a 25k sports car when a v6 honda accord or camry hell probably the odyssey is faster lol. Thats deppressing
speed doesn't make a car fun to drive, lol. The Miata more than proves this
lllll981 Ikr
Meada Kazuya looks like im talking to people who can only afford junker ricer cars like these. if you want something track worthy and fast get a mustang gt will out preform your honda or miata junk. Want something cheap in your price range? get a used 328i e9x with around 50k miles get a 5 year certified warranty will cost you in total 15kish. You will getting luxury, handling, and more power, and looks lol not a punk kid car.
I like Carlos...he's a great auto journalist.
