    Probably the most absurd anti armor tactic to consider, brainwashing infantry into taking on tanks at close range with a large pistol while wearing a blue light that displays their location the whole time. That being said, it would be one hell of an intimidation factor.

The lantern switched them into a pure emotionless killer made during the mad hours of war. A army of pure soulless army that make it look like the dead comes at them, even to their deaths and all pain is nothing to them.

    Pumpkin Scissors has the greatest character development... An experimental soldier of a (now gone) legendary company who is known only as "Gespenst Jäger of the invisible 9" who is conflicted with the motives of the Pumpkin Scissors squad and that of the influence of the 901 ATT Lantern. In the Manga, they explain why the Lantern has such an influence on him, but It is great seeing the response the soldiers have when they realize who he is. However, I think that the manga is better at telling the true story of Randel Oland, I loved the anime.

    I sort of really love the concept of this "anti-tank weapon". I've seen it and used it in video games. Infantry who charge you with intent to take you with them is one of the scariest things a tank operator can likely imagine. Run you over? How? Tanks have a blind spot up close. You get in that spot, and the tank is your prey. You can cause all sorts of havok from this blind spot. One does not need an anti-materiel rifle to take out a tank at that range. A well-placed grenade or mine could do the job.
    An infantry man not afraid of your tank, who charges you head on and doesn't seem to die no matter how many times you fire... That is a threat FAR more dangerous than the weapon you are using. Especially if that infantry has the means to destroy your tank from that range, and only that range. If they have resigned themselves to death just to get within range to deal a killing blow of you... There is nothing more terrifying for someone sitting in what is essentially a glorified "artillery" vehicle. One that provides absolute safety and a false sense of security with its armor.
    The weapon isn't the gun. It isn't the shears. It is the man. The man who charges into danger with a singleminded objective to kill you no matter what it takes, and only his own death will stop him. THAT is a weapon. A psychological weapon more powerful than any atomic bomb. It saps your will to fight and your ability to make rational decisions. It forces you to run away because you can do little else against a man of such a single focus. Looking into that man's eyes is like looking into the eyes of a soulless doll.
    Only a complete psychopath could see that coming at them and not be scared.

      The device, the lateen actually is connected wirelessly to the user’s brain, and movement is what charged it. The Empire created units of nightmares, Flamethrower users of horrid death, chemical warfare that could even risk death for themselves, each unit is made to be bringers fo death, hunters... Randal is scared that he shall lose all his humanity because of it. His scars are not just form the war... but the weapons he had used.

  • @deathbunny1718
    @deathbunny1718 2 года назад +9

    to be fair to Randal, he was built to face ww1 tanks , these being 10mm thick armour at the thickest points , which would mean he could just fire his 13mm gun from a few meters away and land a kill. However with the interwar periods advancement tanks became more advanced and Armour became thicker, so the only solution the troopers had was to aim through sight ports , and loader hatches.
    the loader hatch was about 15mm of steel for a tiger so point blank fire was the only solution leading to the name door knocker.
    so Randal like most interwar period and early ww2 weapons was built for the wrong war and had to adapt even if it meant harming himself

      There's an in universe explanation. Up until about 20 years ago, these people didn't even have arquebuses, much less tanks; everything more advanced than the 12th century or do is courtesy of a Leonardo da Vinci-esque figure, Kauplan, who was so impossibly brilliant that he effectively Connecticut Yankee'd the entire setting. At least, until the nobles got tired of dealing with a lowborn upstart and had squeezed enough inventions out of him to feel they'd gotten their money's worth from him. Then things fell apart for Kauplan very, very quickly. After he committed suicide, the only sources of new innovation even close to his level were his semi-apprentices; he used the Kauplan Institute to build a council of scientists who each had something approximating his own genius within a single discipline, who were dubbed the "Kauplans" of their chosen field. Oland's doctor, for example, is/was the Kauplan of medicine.
      Thing is, not all of them were happy with working for the nobles, and a number of them either died or defected in the years after their mentor's death. The Kauplan of metallurgy bailed on them shortly before the ceasefire, and without his expertise, the nobles' engineers (who are either commoners who earned a spot but are treated like shit regardless, or the inbred failsons of some random noble who got in via nepotism) haven't had any success developing an automatic firearm that doesn't tear itself apart inside of seconds thanks to the glorified pig iron they make them out of. They also haven't really grokked how to make the jump from cap-and-ball single shot actions to fully automatic or semi-automatic ones. Oland's gun is probably one of the more advanced firearms in the country, since it actually has properly jacketed rounds & a rifled barrel (and was made under the OG Kauplan's watch, so it's proper chrome-moly or stainless steel alloy instead of whatever pigshit the nobles' failsons managed to cobble together after the Kauplan of metallurgy left and took all the research notes with him). At present, their "automatic" guns are utter garbage that will fire until it either runs out of bullets or explodes once you squeeze the trigger.
      However, the Silver Wheel ends up giving everybody some object lessons on how to design an armored vehicle later on in the manga, and it is a 'Redcoats vs Revolutionary snipers' shitshow when the Empire tries to take them on with their current (shitty) gear and tactical doctrine.

Such a rifle was so power, even the inbuilt shock absorbers still destroyed the tester’s arm. The problem with such a weapon... the a bullet fired out of it would be so hot and powerful, it woudl Pierce the tanks, but the barrel would basically be melting, meaning another shot could lead to gun exploding, and such a round was known to kill the user in such process. They were not outlawed, but the weapons of 901 ATT were nightmarish, dangerous to be foe and user, and a wish for death on all sides. Not brought up, the actual inventor made tanks and the invisible 9[Randel(lateen guy), 903(acid shells), which was a jump to what they normally use, since most common people of the empire use flintlocks or hand loaded bullets. 903 uses mostly biological(such as the virus head) and chemical warheads. The only tank with any sort of defense in the manga was one with a simple side gun ports, nothing more for just buckshot.
      From the sudden change of Calvary to tanks made many noble believe it was not needed, since anti-personal weapons were never developed, as no one is crazy enough rush the tank. Anti-tank such as mines were never developed for the nobles of the empire feared the idea of a revolt breaking out.
