Yes, I stood there with a GoPro on my chest for almost an hour instead of setting up a tripod.
Due to its popularity, you will need a reservation if you drive to Haleakala the morning-of. It's not easy to do because the availability window is delayed and small. Do with that information what you will. See www.nps.gov/ha....
"Reservations. A reservation is required for each vehicle entering the park from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Beginning April 7, 2021 you may book a reservation up to 60 days in advance and 2 days in advance of the start date."
