The whole same shit!😉 I actually think that I’m found the best teacher from who I really want to learn😍 my only one problem is that I have the “aluminum” Darbuka with straight borders. But I couldn’t find anything in terms of tutorials for that kind of Darbuka.. I mean, the playing basics should be the same, But the fine-tuning details are different -I realized it when I was testing this kind of “doumbek” in comparison to one of mine… Even though the playing feeling is also different & sound, so I’ve definitely decided to buy another one))) and now I’m really happy to find the best tutorial on youtube😍
The word for multiple fingers that you repeatedly mispronounced Is pronounced “fah- lan-geez”!!🤦🏿🤦🏿 Please, and thank you very much. You can thank me whenever.🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
I don't know if many women take up the doumbek/darbuka, but, at 53, I hate that I am just now discovering it. Where has it been all the years of my life? Good thing we're never too old to learn something new, right? Thank you, young man for posting these lessons. You are an awesome teacher. I must be improving too, because the cats have stopped running away when I pick up the drum. When I have mastered the rhythm in this first lesson, I'll definitely move on to the next lesson... and the next lesson... and the next. This instrument is a joy... and so is your teaching. You are a gift. Again, thank you.
@@Peter-tg8kh Thanks for asking. I'm not fast yet, but my accuracy and muscle memory are much improved. I will worry about doing it well before doing it quickly. :)
I am 56 yrs old, wanted to learn this instrument from long, love the way you teach, thank you, I will practice for a week...Doum Ka Tek Ka Doum Ka Slap😊, God bless you
Hi Malik! This is an amazing tutorial. 🙏👏 I can't wait to get my barbuka to practice. Does the size of darbuka matter ? I ordered 11 inches (medium size). Your website link doesn't work. 😉
it's incredible how well he explained all the components. He perfectly explained everything you need to know / learn as a beginner ... incredible !!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Yeah agreed - seen all the videos. He gives all the small aspects like "take a week" "look in the mirror" "your finger will be weak, make a sound anyway" These reassurances are needed for beginners! Thanks Malik Team

The worst drums are the aluminum drums. The best drums are the ones that are made out of clay. They don’t give no ring. The tech comes out like a tech with no ring when it rings it sounds like shit that’s why the clay drum gives you a low doom and the tech gives a solid tech with no ring. That’s a real drum, my brother, if you notice all the singers from back in the days from Abdel Halim to Umm Kulthum to all the big musicians to Farid a trash sounds so good take care of my friend.
Thank you! Fantastic tutorial. I’ve been struggling with my “ka” strike for a while, but your explanations are so clear and detailed, I’m finally able to correct my problem. Now I can actually focus on playing 😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍
Oh thank you so much for this instruction! Wanted to learn darbuka for years and just received mine. Following and subscribed.❤ Thanks also for mentioning right away the right position for us lefties :)
I have 20 cm diameter darbuka. I have a big hand and after straightening the palm it's wider than the drum. Does it mean, that to play the dum I should land on the edge with middle of the palm so sustain is long enough? Otherwise my fingertips lands near the opposing edge and sound is short. I wander if buying 20 cm darbuka for a tall man like me was a good idea?
Thank you so much 😁 I buy my darbuka in Marrakech and would love to learn to play true your videos. Im going to practice this things you just learned me. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
You would be a very successful Russel Brand impersonator! You sound so much like him and your mannerisms are spot on. 😆 Love your videos❤ Excellent instruction!
My father gave me his darbuka. Not sure how old it is. It doesn't look damaged. But my sounds do not sound like yours at all. Even though I'm super new I think the sounds should be similar. How can I tell if drum is the issue?/ old?
This is the best intro to darbuka I’ve seen. This is the lesson plan I’ll be following. Thank you for taking time to explain even the most basic fundamentals of this great instrument! 👍🙏
Wonderful instructor who comes with his ancient blood and speaks clearly for clarity I will listen and learn from him.
Great teacher. He took the time to say “listen to yourself and ask, ‘did that sound good?’”
I’ve been searching for 1 month i have almost seen all darbuka lessons on youtube and this guy is the best.
I'll take your name as good property to say that.
Same here man

Thanks,

What specification / seizes do you advise a darbuka.
I see a lot of 22cm diameter seize skin drum.
Whats youre advise to it?

Sometimes I wish djembe masters would explain things down to inches and anatomy :)
My writing hand is left. But my dominant hand is right. What should I do.
I have a wooden darbuka. Does it have any differences? It doesn't make the same sound
Great information thanks I'ma play for the homeless community

Hi ibrahim, Greeting from Bangladesh, You are the best. I have just started my first lesson. Never played before. Hope i can play one day. Fingers X
My sustain sound doesn’t sound as sharp as yours. Is this because of the darbuka or is it supposed to sound like that. It’s echos
I think you did a great job in this video. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series
Thank you so much. Keep going on your Darbuka journey! Check out the Darbuka Mastery Program on my channel homepage for more!
