Great explanation on this interesting instrument. I am from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 and we have a traditional instrument shaped like the darbuka made from wood and the top is made from leather skin.

One of the best If not the best teacher

The instructional series (both) that you've made are excellent. I wanted to say, though, that the djembe is a West African drum, commonly found in Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and a couple of other W. African countries. The core repertoire is from Mali and Guinea. Also, I wonder if there are any other fans of plain clay drums here? My two favorite tablas are both terra cotta-colored clay with a clear glaze. They were made by an Iraqi gentleman who is now retired. He also made some with really beautiful patterns (black on red), but I couldn't afford those.

I am 56 yrs old, wanted to learn this instrument from long, love the way you teach, thank you, I will practice for a week...Doum Ka Tek Ka Doum Ka Slap😊, God bless you

My darbuka sounds so flat when I play it while touching my other thigh. If the darbuka head is not touched by anything else, it sounds fine. Is that normal? I've seen many pro darbuka players using it while touching the darbuka head with the other leg to keep it balabced, so I'm wondering if it's something wrong with my instrument

Never learned Darbuka before. You are amazing indeed, I used my hand when I was really young, did not understand the sounds, but now I understand what I was doing with flicking of my fingers and the palms of my hand like Dum Dum Teck, K T, D, it was the Baladi rythmique. Thank again, you are amazing teacher indeed, now it makes lots of sense. I will try to apply it on the Darbuka

Darbuka and Doumbek are slightly different. I ordered Darbuka and Doumbek case did not fit. Company told me that they were different but I didn’t know. My granddaughter wanted bongos when she was 2. Then frame drums age 3 and I got my son a Darbuka for his birthday. Now I want one and a djembe.
