I think this is pc only. Pressing "t" or "y" depending on whom i want to chat with. But this is a double edged sword, as from time to time misclicks leave you in a chat mode and open to hits. Also if you have no chat, you are doing yourself a favour, as chivalry 2 has a lot of trolls and idiots from all walks of life who keep posting toxic stuff.
