I love Gandalf since I saw LOTR for the first time. The older I am the more I understand all his quotes that are connected with everyday life. He is full of love and hope, that is exactly what everyone need in these hard times.
Why have you given me the body of an old man, I feel so tired. In the long run this is actually more important, if you actually listen to what he says of course. Studying? Important, but you remember what you need to for a week and then forget it the next, only remembering small details. Oh well.
I actually want that phrase tattooed either on my ribs or my right arm. Every time I'm feeling down, I sit back and think about that quote, and it gives me the strength to keep moving forward and enjoy my life.
it’s incredibly powerful gandalf admitting he’s afraid. its literally one of his main powers, being able to give people hope and courage but the fact even he needs someone to give him courage really makes him relatable despite him being a 2000 year old spirit
Ian McKellen is such a GREAT and IMPRESSIVE actor, especially when he comes as Gandalf. Thank you so much Gamer Benn for sharing this astounding video of this iconic character.
Farewell, My brave hobbits, My work is now finished Here at last on the source of the sea comes the end of our Fellowship, Ill not say do not weep not all the tears are an evil :'(
Not to mention that the first time you see it, it is so easy to get swept away by the moment and truly believe this is about to be the end, simply due to how well they sell the characters going through it. Not ashamed to say this was one of the moments that made me cry in the theater.
Jacob Kilgore thank you so very much. He's had to start more aggressive therapy, and d he's started hacking up blood. We cherish every moment we have left with him..
I lost a close friend to leukemia. I'm sorry this is something you, your father, and the rest of your family have to go through. This quote from Gandalf always helped me and I'm glad it helps you, too.
#3 Might be my favourite. It is the scene that shows why Gandalf would never be corrupted by Sauron, while Saruman, supposedly the wisest of the 5 Istari, can fall to temptation. Gandalf doesn't care about power; he cares about kindness.
Why have you given me the body of an old man, I feel so tired. ( maybe not the exact words, but this is how I remember it ) That was exact the moment where I felt the true nature of Gandalf, his power before the journey from the undying land to middle earth. On the contrary, Gandalf could have also been corrupted, and that's part of what makes him a great character. For what sense is there in having a character that can't be affected or vulnerable? It is because Gandalf was vulnerable that he was a pillar of strength for the fellowship.
@@robstvn It's not quite his vulnerability and the great respect he has for that flaw of his (and thus takes great care to avoid temptation or overconfidence) that makes him a pillar of strength for the Fellowship, but that he encourages and inspires others while constantly acknowledging his own limitations and weaknesses. For example, he never once takes possession of the One Ring, and in fact repeatedly insists that he must not carry it ever, for any reason. He knows that he is corruptible and refuses to think otherwise or even take the risk. And partly because of that, he relies on others--others that are weaker than him and far less knowledgeable than him--and appreciates and values them because of it. Gandalf is strong and wise because he steadfastly remembers the limits of his own strength and wisdom. He relies on the strength and wisdom of others, and appreciates their strength and wisdom all the more because they are mundane mortals. It is he, and he alone, that recognizes from the start that hobbits are extraordinary in their strength of character--that they can resist the corruption and temptation of the One Ring better than literally any other beings BECAUSE they are so much "lesser" than Maiar like himself and content with that fact.

“I will not say do not weep. For not all tears are an evil” definitely up there with the best. Lotr gives better life advice than anything or anybody else ever could

Less than 5 minutes and i'm tearing up. That's what you get when you add together tremendous acting, inspirational writing, and incredible music alltogether.
#2 quote always makes me teary eyed. It shows even if you will not survive, there is some peace in passing. It makes me think of my fathers best friend who passed away from cancer, who I too was very close to. And I know she will be waiting on those white shores for me and my father when our time comes. I'm convinced Gandalf in so many ways is supposed to represent Jesus. How he heals others, rises again from the dead, and provides true words of wisdom and kindness to friends and family. Just my opinion. No negativity please ☺

I am truly staggered that this now has more than 100,000 views. I can only promise to continue to make more stuff over Christmas and into new year. Thanks again for watching. GAMER.
Tolkien was such a genius. From simple words comes rather simple sentences which give hope for people to keep on going with their lives no matter what.
As this video reaches the half a million mark, I cannot express how thankful I am. It is not perfect, I could have included other quotes but when you decide you divide. Thanks ever so much guys.
Best quote is: Bilbo: where are you going Gandalf. Gandalf: i am seeking the company of the only one around here who got has any sense. Bilbo: amd who is this Gandalf: myself mr baggins
Bilbo: "I've never used a sword in my life!" Gandalf: "And I hope you never have to, but if you do, remember this..." Me: STICK EM' WITH THE POINTY END!!! Gandalf: "True courage is about knowing not when to take a life..." Me: Ah fuck, wrong fantasy epic
Imagine having Gandalf in your life, guiding you to the good we can’t always see, giving you the strength we don’t always have, And telling you in his grumpy old man voice that your a fool.. in front of all of your friends, as we all often need.
"All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you!"...says a character in a 10 hour movie. Apart from being cynical all of the quotes go deeper than just entertainment.
I think the "small things" and "knowing when to spare a life" are the best quotes. They actually relate to real life and sometimes make you rethink things. The "what to do with the time that is given to us" quote speakes volumes I personally think Gandalf is the best written character in any book or film ever. Hes just perfect.
It‘s always the masterpiece ‚concerning hobbits‘ that is playing in the background when Gandalf says such deep and wise words. The music makes the quotes so much deeper , powerful and peaceful as they already are!!!
My father is getting old and I'm afraid that I'll soon lose him. I love him very much. Hearing these quotes makes me feel better about it because it is true. Death is just a path we must all take. I just don't know what I'll do without my dad. Lots of people are struggling with loss of a family. I hope you find peace with it. I certainly hope when my dad's time comes, that it won't be too hard yet I know that my heart will shatter into pieces.
I lost my dad coming up for 7 years, it’s a quote that has given me a lot of hope. I know it’s a film but the journey doesn’t end here we will see them again. Your comment is 3 years old I can only hope you still have your dad ❤
LOTR Trilogy has been my biggest source of inspiration in the toughest and darkest hours of my life. It taught me to rise up, it taught me to fight and it taught me the value of pure friendships. I am forever grateful to have seen these movies and the lessons it left me with. PS: The soundtrack of these movies are my favorite.
" True Courage is about knowing not when to take a life but when to spare one" that line will always stick with me Gandalf is the Wise Mentor I hope to be like one day God Bless You Sir Ian McKellen you are my Hero I also loved you as Magneto in X-Men
One of my favorites is right before the #1 on this list. Frodo: It is a pity Bilbo didn't kill him [Golem] when he had the chance. Gandalf: Pity? It is pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment.
Me, just turned 60, with an ever growing "hoard" of DVD-movies of scifi and fantasy fiction, have a special place for everything LOTR and Hobbit related. Those are my "heart of the mountain", and the set of LOTR is "my precious"...
No "Frodo: 'It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill Gollum when he had the chance.' Gandalf: 'Pity? It's a pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.' Frodo: 'I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.' Gandalf: 'So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides that of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought"
Thank you so much for this performance sir Ian McKellan, absolutely made the role his own while injecting so much life, compassion, wisdom, and badassry into one.
"What do you mean? Do you mean to wish me a good morning, or do you mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or perhaps you mean to say that you feel good on this particular morning; or are you simply stating that this is a morning to be good on?" "I'm Gandalf, and Gandalf means ... me!" "Just Tea, Thank you." "BILBO BAGGINS!!"
1:53 - This is my mantra. I'm not a strong person by any means, but I believe my everyday choices carry an impact. Open a door for someone, pick up a dropped item, even wave to them as they drive past you. Such simple acts of kindness can carry so much weight.
I can’t believe it has taken me so long to realize the symbolism behind Gandalf and the Hobbits. You see, these are the two versions of good: holy goodness and mundane goodness. Gandalf is the parallel for an angel (if I had to guess Michael is the most appropriate, but that is irrelevant here). The wisdom he imparts, the actions he takes, and the effects he has are all beyond that of a normal person. They are grand visions of goodness, so much so that they almost seem alien, and beyond mortals. There is no failure in it, and it is perfect in its dogma. The wisdom of the hobbits is much more practical and simple. It is rooted in the understanding that suffering and error is the nature of life. An angel knows not the hardships of mortals. Even at his lowest, Gandalf was never in mortal danger, because the very essence of who he is is tied to Eru Iluvatar and the Great Song. But in that mortal frailty comes something entirely different: resilience, courage, and determination. This is why a Maiar could not fell Sauron. To summarize the moral lesson of Lord of the Rings: Godly Good can never be triumphed over, but the defeat of evil will only come from the hands of normal people who endure it’s wrath.
"I wish none of this had happened..." "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in the world, Frodo, besides the will of evil." - This was in American theaters only three months after 9/11. We all needed to hear it....especially young people.
Ian Mckellen is Gandalf. He is the perfect roll, I can’t see anyone else playing him. All his words just have so much weight to them, yet he also has a heart of gold.
Galadriel: "Mithrandir, why the halfling?" Gandalf: “I do not know, Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love."
Besides the "You shall not pass!" statement (and indeed he did not pass), my favorite Gandalf quote was "Indeed, he deserves death. But many who deserve life do not get it. Can you give it to them? Then do not be so quick to deal out death."
The Half Brit Eru Illuvitar is the creator of middle earth, the God figure of the world. Gandalf is actually one of Illuvitar’s agents (he alluded to this when he states his identity to the balrog on the bridge of Khazad Dum) who came to middle earth taking the form of an old man. He takes this form so that the men of power who he wished to council would not find him threatening.
#1 is my absolute favorite as well. I first read the books when I was in a bout of depression, and that quote alone has given me strength in hard times.
While I would say it's a bit minimalist, I don't think this top 5 couldn't been better be done with the choices. I think you understand Mithrandir better than those who shout the meme. The LOTR (and some scenes from The Hobbit) series was the best movies I've seen, period... I'm so proud I was old enough at the time (12 to 14 years old respectively).
All these quotes can be applied to life if you know how to relate them...you can relate the one ring to a depression you can be overwhelmed by, a burden of your own...I have recently broken up with my girlfriend from 3 years and I'm going through a big crisis in my life...thank you so much gamer bran for uploading this...it's given me some strength to continue and move on and interiorize our decision as a couple of breaking up...long live Gandalf and long live J.R.R Tolkien, always in our memories...
+Alejandro Gonzalez Well said my friend...and now u reminded me of an old friend who used to say "Lord of the rings is not just a movie! It is a way of life!" P.S. She is not an "old friend"basicly neither she said that many times, just wanted to add to the atmosphere :p
2:45 I never realized that Into the West was playing softly here. Such a nice touch! I feel like Peter Jackson should direct all movies. Or, at least, book to movie fantasy adaptations.
"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with he time that is given to us. The are other forces at work in this world beside the work of evil." This is really going to help me through COVID-19.
2:45 All turns to silver glass and the silver sword to black :P By the way,the quotes from The Hobbit trilogy where both from the Unexpected Journey, which i believe was the most decent from the three...

I love Gandalf since I saw LOTR for the first time. The older I am the more I understand all his quotes that are connected with everyday life. He is full of love and hope, that is exactly what everyone need in these hard times.

But there was also the hint of his current power, the power of a bit of foresight, to see the things that needs to be done and to guide and encourage the people who needed to do those things.

“The journey doesn’t end here, death is just another path, one that we all must take” I cannot tell you how much this quote has helped me.
Studying: All we have to do, is decide what to do with the time that is given....yet I'm watching this video..
In the long run this is actually more important, if you actually listen to what he says of course. Studying? Important, but you remember what you need to for a week and then forget it the next, only remembering small details. Oh well.
Ahaha this is exactly what I am doing right now lmao
You can be forgiven for watching this video instead of studying, the moralistic messages can enhance studying...…..I have found.

That was my senior quote in my yearbook.
it’s incredibly powerful gandalf admitting he’s afraid. its literally one of his main powers, being able to give people hope and courage but the fact even he needs someone to give him courage really makes him relatable despite him being a 2000 year old spirit

#2 Is amazing, beautifully written and the way Sir Ian delivers it is just perfect
Not to mention that the first time you see it, it is so easy to get swept away by the moment and truly believe this is about to be the end, simply due to how well they sell the characters going through it. Not ashamed to say this was one of the moments that made me cry in the theater.
You'll Never Walk Alone ❤️
That is one thing a Celtic fan and a staunch Rangers fan like myself can agree on. :)

Agreed. But it's not easy to select only 5, Gandalf is such a well written character.

( maybe not the exact words, but this is how I remember it )
That was exact the moment where I felt the true nature of Gandalf, his power before the journey from the undying land to middle earth. The restrictions put upon him, his doubth of finishing his task. But there was also the hint of his current power, the power of a bit of foresight, to see the things that needs to be done and to guide and encourage the people who needed to do those things.

Lotr gives better life advice than anything or anybody else ever could
This movie series is such a masterpiece. The actors, the sound, the story, the lore. Everything about it.
Just about every one of these quotes makes me tear up. I crazy-love LOTR. :)

Nicely said also I appreciate you putting that it’s just your opinion, to many people get fired up just because someone has an opinion that doesn’t need to matter to anyone else

My dude youre nearly at 1M views hehehe. Keep up the good work!
Whenever life has me feeling down, I come here. I don't know... even with glossy eyes, this video helps. Thank you.
Best quote is:
Bilbo: where are you going Gandalf.
Gandalf: i am seeking the company of the only one around here who got has any sense.
Bilbo: amd who is this
Gandalf: myself mr baggins
Bilbo: "I've never used a sword in my life!"
Gandalf: "And I hope you never have to, but if you do, remember this..."
Me: STICK EM' WITH THE POINTY END!!!
Gandalf: "True courage is about knowing not when to take a life..."
Me: Ah fuck, wrong fantasy epic
Yawg moth 😂
LITERALLY
The pointy end, is that a Game of Thrones quote?
Imagine having Gandalf in your life, guiding you to the good we can’t always see, giving you the strength we don’t always have, And telling you in his grumpy old man voice that your a fool.. in front of all of your friends, as we all often need.
Yes we sorely need him right now
Damn, that's nice to imagine.
Indeed, we all need our own Gandalf or Dumbledore or Picard in our lives
"All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you!"...says a character in a 10 hour movie. Apart from being cynical all of the quotes go deeper than just entertainment.
Those that understand the deeper meaning also understand that IT IS time well spent, " There's more to this Hobbit, than meets the eye!"
"DO NOT TAKE ME FOR SOME CONJURER OF CHEAP TRICKS! I'M NOT TRYING TO ROB YOU!.....I'm trying to help you."

I think the "small things" and "knowing when to spare a life" are the best quotes. They actually relate to real life and sometimes make you rethink things.
The "what to do with the time that is given to us" quote speakes volumes
I personally think Gandalf is the best written character in any book or film ever. Hes just perfect.
Say what you will about The Hobbit movies, Martin Freeman is perfect as Bilbo.
Agreed!😁🍻🧙♂️
I agree with that! He was very well cast.
It‘s always the masterpiece ‚concerning hobbits‘ that is playing in the background when Gandalf says such deep and wise words. The music makes the quotes so much deeper , powerful and peaceful as they already are!!!
The small things speech almost makes me cry every time.
Just got the quote tattood on my arm yesterday. "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." In Tolkien font.
One of the few tattoos you can get with no fear of regrets in the future.
"If you don't know what to do, always follow your nose"
I use this in my life with great success
Last quote is by far my favourite, the whole conversation.. It keeps me going
"The wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." Is also great quote
I am overwhelmed at the number of views this video has received. Thank you. I will be releasing some more content very very soon.
" True Courage is about knowing not when to take a life but when to spare one" that line will always stick with me Gandalf is the Wise Mentor I hope to be like one day God Bless You Sir Ian McKellen you are my Hero I also loved you as Magneto in X-Men
Its kinda a irony that Magneto is totally opisite Gandalf :)
"The small things.." is even better when you think that it matches so well with Gandalf's origin as the Maia Olorin.
A wizzard arrives precisely when he means to :)
Gandalf may be the most loved character in all stories.
I will never get bored of the Lord of the Rings, if I’m still alive at 90 I will still watch the film regularly
Me, just turned 60, with an ever growing "hoard" of DVD-movies of scifi and fantasy fiction, have a special place for everything LOTR and Hobbit related.
Those are my "heart of the mountain", and the set of LOTR is "my precious"...
No "Frodo: 'It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill Gollum when he had the chance.'
Gandalf: 'Pity? It's a pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.' Frodo: 'I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.'
Gandalf: 'So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides that of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought"
Gandalf is essentially an angel who has been alive since the beginning of creation, so it makes sense that his quotes would give hope.
#1 and #2 are two of the most powerful and beautiful moments in all of cinema history ❤
I flippin love Gandalf and his quotes. Tolkien's writing and McKellen's performance are absolutely beautiful
Thank you so much for this performance sir Ian McKellan, absolutely made the role his own while injecting so much life, compassion, wisdom, and badassry into one.
"What do you mean? Do you mean to wish me a good morning, or do you mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or perhaps you mean to say that you feel good on this particular morning; or are you simply stating that this is a morning to be good on?"
"I'm Gandalf, and Gandalf means ... me!"
"Just Tea, Thank you."

It amazes me how well these movies were casted
1:53 - This is my mantra.
I'm not a strong person by any means, but I believe my everyday choices carry an impact. Open a door for someone, pick up a dropped item, even wave to them as they drive past you. Such simple acts of kindness can carry so much weight.
I like how Ian acts with his eyes, that brings so much feelings
"I wish none of this had happened..."
"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in the world, Frodo, besides the will of evil."
-
This was in American theaters only three months after 9/11. We all needed to hear it....especially young people.
2003 Gandalf: No the journey doesn't end here
2019: Tony Stark: Part of the Journey is the End.
2 different philosophies, both are equally correct
They don't contradict though
Benjamin Chhakchhuak they do though. Tony saw his life and goals as a journey, with his death being the end.
@@carlsmith4568 Gandalf didn't say the journey ended while tony stated that each journey has an end
Ian Mckellen is Gandalf. He is the perfect roll, I can’t see anyone else playing him. All his words just have so much weight to them, yet he also has a heart of gold.
Galadriel: "Mithrandir, why the halfling?"
Gandalf: “I do not know, Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check.
'True courage is about knowing, not when to take a life, but when to spare one'
That is such a powerful line! A lesson for humanity.
"Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity" that´s the best quote XD
There are other forces in this world besides the will of evil..........
Bilbo was meant to find the ring in which case you were meant to find it
And that is an encouraging thought
Must be nice to know that Eru Iluvitar (God), chose Frodo as his champion
@@superguy911 what
The Half Brit Eru Illuvitar is the creator of middle earth, the God figure of the world. Gandalf is actually one of Illuvitar’s agents (he alluded to this when he states his identity to the balrog on the bridge of Khazad Dum) who came to middle earth taking the form of an old man. He takes this form so that the men of power who he wished to council would not find him threatening.
