Congratulations. I am currently agonising over whether to trade my M2 for an E92...the sound is really the only thing it is vastly superior in but it's a big factor.
+SoCalSupercars I bought mine back in March. Best decision of my life; in fact my car is pretty much the same as the one in this video. It's an incredible machine.
Man, I remember 2011, 17, broke as fuck, no license, no job, no car, watching this video in a public bus through it’s free but shitty WiFi, and wanting this car so bad. It’s so sweet to have this E90 M3 ZCP and My E46 M3 ZCP
When someone asks the classic and most often used question, " What is your dream car?". I often answer with this, "A realistic or unrealistic car?". Realistic is this car, the E92 M3, Comp Pack, (Lime Rock Package Edition) to be extremely specific. I love this car more than any other car ever. It speaks to me in ways most people will never understand, and Matt said it best in this video. The Unrealistic car? The GT3 OR GT2 RS... my Lord are those some of the best cars ever built, for obvious reasons. I'm 34, by the way haha, watching this video that was produced effing 13 years ago... SO crazy.
I had a 350z nismo, and after watching this video I bought a 2011 competition package sedan M3! Matt couldn't have described it any better than he did in the video. Absolutely brilliant!
111 thumbs down? 111 people who do not know anything about cars!!! an m3 is an amazing car, if you are a person that actually loves performance you will know that an m3 is not even close to average. This is the car that defines BMW, 3 series in general are great cars, but an M3 or any M series is beyond amazing.
+zevi 2000 Even tho thats funny, Im still a hardcore AMG fan myself lol. Idk if Im as big of an AMG fan as I am an M/// fan but nevertheless anything fast, or just quick, on four wheels has a special place in my heart. Wether its a 10K+HP top fuel dragster, F1 racecar, or a Civic SI with an intake, headers, exhaust, and coil-overs. Im not picky when it comes to performance as long as it doesn't look like shit which is subjective anyway.
Watched this video in highschool always drooling over this car.. 8 years later and I have finally fulfilled my dream and purchased a 2011 E90 M3 and have been living the dream ever since. Driven the new F80 competition and that car technically preforms better, is faster, and looks great, but man that v8 alone is worth getting the older car. Nothing compares to the amount of soul this car has.
@sahyoun the launch control is a 2-mode system. If you leave traction control turned on, it launches hard with very little wheelspin. if you turn traction control off, it's like automatic burnout mode. We only showed the second option because it looks better on film.
A recent magazine test took the Mustang GT with track pack and the M3 Competition package to the track and the Mustang GT was within 1/10th of a second of the M3's lap time. The M3 is a nicer car, for sure, but for half the money, the Mustang did indeed keep pace on the track, as well as run identical 0-60 and 1/4 mile times at the drag strip.
I get what you're saying as I have the same color combo with the exception of the front splitters. Instead, I went with a GTS inspired front lip….specifically for track purposes. BTW, the roof is carbon fiber…only available on coupes which DOES look amazing.
obe1000 Oh that's nice, how has she been treating you? Yeah i forgot that it was actually carbon fiber. Freaking amazing is all i can say. Got a video of that beast? or an instagram?
I must say that the smiles just keep coming after 2 years of ownership. Bought a '13 new with all the bells and whistles and have enjoyed it since day 1….absolutely no regrets!!! Unfortunately, I'm beyond the phase of making vids and photo shoots, so you'll have to enjoy what others have posted.
how would a mustang keep up? this m3 has 50:50 perfect weight balanced chassis and stiff, silky smooth gearbox, linear power delivery from the engine... 5 pt rear suspension, double struts on the front, lighter so it has a better power:weight, sits lower on the ground.. has a v8 that makes like 420 - 440hp (309kw idk what the hp is though)
yeah plus the M3 has a DCT transmission. Now that I think about it, the DCT was the M3 carried was unmatched when the E92 M3 was released. No other supercar had a transmission that even compared to the M3 DCT.
Planning on picking up a used 2010 - 2011 E90 sedan M3 with 6 speed manual and other goodies. Pure perfection. Want to keep this car for many many years to come. The engine will never get old.
It makes me sad that the naturally aspirated engine is becoming a thing of the past. I feel like I was born either too late or too early. By the time I get out of high school and college and can start finding ways to afford these kinds of cars they will probably all be hybrids too which is even more depressing.
Then again...MPE on the new M4 sounds bad ass. Pretty sure in the future they will sound even better as they learn how to work with MPE's. But it's not the same so i feel you. Just gotta go with the flow i guess.
Um, read any test of a 2011+ Mustang GT vs an M3. They run identical times on the drag strip, and are within 1/10th of each other every lap on the road course.
Beautiful car its a bummer they wont be making it into a coupe, but i guess thats what the M4 is 4. but for some reason the name M4 feels slightly off. M3 has this certain je ne se qua to it
That's the redline. I don't think the limiter kicks in till another 500 or 1000 rpm. (I've only hit it once I think it's sloppy and stupid to hit the limiter, pointless)
Yeah there is almost no competition at that price though.... If you are going for an M3 the right thing to do is get this one, but then again I love my cars overstuffed. LOL
@vasco10506 I looked at a Subaru STI in 2007 and ended up buying the Audi S4. The comparison between the M3 and the Mustang is just to prove that the M3 isn't exactly the "performance value" that it once was.
Loved this car as a kid, bought one when I am 20, sold it just 7 days and realized it was a stupid decision. Now I am definitely getting another one soon!
@paulbolintinu Motor trend tested the Mustang GT and BMW M3 side-by-side with the same pro driver. The Mustang was only a tenth of a slower around the track, and ran identical acceleration numbers as the M3.
@amiralizb it's the same exact song we used in the original BMW 335i video from 2 years ago. Even if it's not the greatest song ever (it isn't), the point was to link the two videos.
Both cars are amazing. In my opinion the C63 is one of the greatest sounding V8s around. I am weighing up which to buy as my next car and the C63 is ahead at the minute. Sure if I was taking my car to a track I would have the M3 but for a daily driver you cannot go wrong with a C63 AMG. It is such a shame the new M3 is not a V8 any more. I heard one start up from cold and it sounds like a Dyson vacuum cleaner!
kiftikhar I understand your reasoning. To each his own. It's your money spend it how you feel. I would choose the m3 in a heartbeat. Cheaper and fuel efficient
Awesome review. In the short time I spent driving an E90 M3 with the Competition Package I quickly fell in love with the thing. I don't care if a Mustang can keep up for half the price because there isn't anything else on the road that feels as special as the M3. I fucking want that in my life forever.
this guy is NOT for the BMW M3. He belongs in a hellcat, corvette or maybe in mustang with a wall-mart supercharged kit for straight line drag racing. M3's are for drivers who give value to balance (handling / power) in harmony. any car can go fast in a straight line with few mods. but a good handling car it's a job for the masters!
Not true. I use to have that same bias until I grew to appreciate 2K+HP dragsters & not just anyone can lay down a consistent ET in something that can trap 200-300+ MPH in the 1/4. Not saying cornering isn't more popular because its more accessible on public roads but it definitely can't be compared with straight line racing they're two different animals.
Today I closed the deal with the previous owner, next week I am getting exactly this, blue color and akrapovic exhaust, mine probably got more extras as the price bought was about 160.000eur (at that time about 224.000USD now about 192.000USD) but the tax is alot bigger in my country, almost tops the cars factory value. I am mad in joy. Cant wait to drive it.
370zfan Hell, you can pick up an '08 for mid thirties. Just be careful about the running costs. You'll consistently get 14-15 average MPG and when something breaks, it'll be expensive.
ahh, thanks man.and it doesn't matter if it's expensive to fix.it's gonna be better than my 350z witch litteraly breaks every other week.thanks again man!cheers!
@jonen9494 The Golf R won't be available in the US for at least 6 months, but we'll try to get one on the books when it does come in. I'm doing the second half of Bullrun this year, as we're shooting the in-studio segments for "The Car Show" for the first 2 days of the rally. But I'm doing it as a vacation, not bringing video cameras. Too much work.
M division is not dead. Just because they are releasing twin turbo inline 6's (F80 M3) instead of pure naturely aspirated doesn't mean CRAP! The fact that they went back to there roots with the inline 6 and created something absolutely monstrous with twin turbos is definitely something M division worthy. Sure, the V8 is better sounding, but it's nothing that a future exhaust can't fix on the new Generation M3/M4. Everyone fails to see the potential the twin turbos have. They freaking KILL the E92 M3 by like 10 cars with a simple tune!! Oh and I love the E92 so no bias here.
Just because a car looks good doesn't mean it's worth a second glance. They are common as can be. Not collectors items, not worth saving, just used cars like any other.
@branzilla If you had watched the video, I clearly say that the point of this car is NOT for racing, it's for the person who wants one car to do everything well. And there are plenty of $75,000 cars out there that sell very well, so calling a very practical car impractical because of its high price tag is just silly. A car doesn't have to be cheap to be practical, it just has to be usable on a daily basis with comfortable seats, a big trunk, half decent fuel economy, and ease of operation.
Wow you replied to my comment, i have watched every single video of Garage419 and Smoking Tire and i have commented only a few times in your videos but you have responded everytime i have commented. Thanks for taking time to answers questions/comments of your fans guys!!
i watched this about 3 times, i dowloaded it to my ipod, and posted it on my facebook wall for two reasons: 1. Matt you are amazing and possibly the best car reviewer ive ever watched! you are truly amazing! 2. because this is possibly the best car you have ever tested because of what you said because it is one of the best all around cars in the world! thank you for posting this awesome video and truly making my day!
***** Have you actually driven a car with a DCT or MCT? It's still tons of fun, reduces some time on acceleration which is great for the track and in case you get stuck in traffic it's not going to be laborious to drive. MT will always be the gold standard for the ultimate driving experience but DCT is right up there.
Djonkie Bonk Bro, it's a fucking E92 M3. The so called "ultimate drivers car". An M3 with a DCT is a disgrace and all real driving enthusiasts feel the same about it.
***** What makes you think having a DCT on an M3 is a disgrace? Now that SMG transmission was a disgrace but the DCT is just fine. As I said MT is great but heck DCT is alright too and has it's advantages over MT. IF BMW doesn't put CDVs in the newer M3 then yes MT it is but if so then DCT is the way to go. I have driven a 2005 330ci with MT and it was totally smooth to drive but newer E90s were kind of a pain.
@bynddrvn5 are you saying a base, V6 powered, 300 horsepower Panamera will smoke an M3? Sounds like you've been smoking something. Something I should be smoking.
thank you for the video matt and tom ... awesome as always and i havent even clicked play yet ... one of the only entertaining, comical, informative and consistent youtube channels ever ...
Competition package only comes with upgraded suspension (EDC) and sits 10mm lower than a stock M3. It also comes with the ZCP (style 359) 19" rims. The competition exhaust, front splitters, black rear performance splitter, and gloss black rims you see on this car you have to purchase separately.
Matt, Thank you for taking the time to response. I think you do an awesome job and you definately picked up a fan. I am also ordering the glasses. Keep up the good work and hope to see more of your reviews in the future. You made me love this car so much more.
@bynddrvn5 A Porsche Panamera Turbo costs nearly twice what this fully-loaded M3 costs, and has 4-doors and All Wheel Drive. What kind of comparison is that?
Love the special effects in the end scene,LOL! Great reviews Matt,it took only a couple of them to make me a fan of Smoking Tire. Thanks for the ride once again.
Just picked up a 2012 BMW M3 coupe with Competition Package and DCT trans. Absolutely love the car. First non manual car I have ever owned. The DCT is so much fun to drive and so precise.
My friend just bought a 2012 M3 Competition pack... in Alpine white, with red seats... That thing is going to be worth some serious money, the 2012 will be the last great, rev-happy, normally aspirated M car. Am I jealous? Maybe.
Totally loved the review! Matt I've been a fan of this show a long time ago and you never Disappoint me. You sir a true car enthusiastic. I really hope that you guys pickup one of the E-Class Coupe and do a review on that. Good luck on "The Car Show" that is coming on SPEED. I really hope that you will make more TheSmokingTire videos. Every Review you do deserves at least 1,000,000 Views!
almost 10 years after and the design still amazes me
Loved it as a kid, this car is what’s driving my success, I need one.
Bought one two years back, interlagos blue competition. Best decision I have ever made.
And the NA engine + DCT still amazing!
10 years later and watching this video over a dozen times growing up as a kid I finally got around to buying my dream 2012 E92 M3 in Interlagos Blue.
Congratulations. I am currently agonising over whether to trade my M2 for an E92...the sound is really the only thing it is vastly superior in but it's a big factor.
Proud of you bro looking to buy this gem one day 💯💙
Everytime I watch this video it makes me want an E92 M3.
SoCalSupercars go buy one
SoCalSupercars Go buy one, did it myself. Best car ever made, especially the e90 m3 that i've got :)
I have a e93! I made a video of it, its on E39source
(It's a general bmw page now)
Bought one yesterday ;-)
+SoCalSupercars I bought mine back in March. Best decision of my life; in fact my car is pretty much the same as the one in this video. It's an incredible machine.

Feels good right
Damn.. It really does sound better than the new ones...
Yeah much better but the ipe exhaust sounds better than the bmw's
Yeah way better.
Timi
to be fair, so does a dump truck lmao
7+ yrs later, still fast, still unique than the newer ones, still drives awesome and sounds crazy
looks so classy, E9x has really aged well
Reasons to buy the E92 M3 today:
1.) Big block NA engine
2.) DCT transmission
3.) Hydraulic steering
Results in very direct and immediate handling.
4.0L is a big block to you?

Historians will remember the E92 as the greatest M3 ever made. Wish I could have owned one.
I dont know where you are from but they are stupid cheap here in the uk at the moment. You should just go for it and get one.
If there is a will the wallet will find a way. I got one after half depreciated.
Bo McGillacutty how is the m3 brotha?
5 years in. Love my e92 Comp pack.
pistonpoweruk Same here 😃
This vid is 3.5 years old, and it's still one of my favorite yt videos EVER.
Amazing job guys! Love your channel, keep it up!
i've watched this video so many times, very detailed and makes me want to get this . end of a era for big engines...
Goodbye naturally aspirated V8. :'(
I had a 350z nismo, and after watching this video I bought a 2011 competition package sedan M3! Matt couldn't have described it any better than he did in the video. Absolutely brilliant!
+Ruth Tedla how does the nismo compare to the m3? i'm curious :)
3 years on and god this is such a pretty car. I just love the way the headlights look.
Leo L what about the m3 lol
Leo L Boooo
9 years on, and still sexy as hell.
111 thumbs down? 111 people who do not know anything about cars!!! an m3 is an amazing car, if you are a person that actually loves performance you will know that an m3 is not even close to average. Yeah gotta be AMG fans.
+zevi 2000 Even tho thats funny, Im still a hardcore AMG fan myself lol. This is one of my favorite reviews ever.
Same here. My life feels fulfilled.
Last real M3. The new ones are faster and will blow it away in a straight line but this car is raw and the V8 revs to 8400! I love this car
@sahyoun the launch control is a 2-mode system. If you leave traction control turned on, it launches hard with very little wheelspin. if you turn traction control off, it's like automatic burnout mode. We only showed the second option because it looks better on film.
If I could have any car and leave it bone stock it would still be this car
Same here. I bought one near identical, they sell 'em to anyone. hahaha
There’s nothing to add, it’s basically perfect as it is. The only thing is a tasteful exhaust as we see here
A recent magazine test took the Mustang GT with track pack and the M3 Competition package to the track and the Mustang GT was within 1/10th of a second of the M3's lap time. as much as i love mustangs, I really want one of these. Alpine white with that black accenting and black roof looks freaking amazing.

it's all good man. that's nice, must feel really good to own such a car. You said you track it as well right? road course or AutoX?
Htm281 - mine is up for sell
2013 20xxx miles I have some videos of it on my channel
believe it. Motor Trend's test with the same driver, same track, same day had the stock Mustang GT only 1/10th of a second per lap behind the M3.
I had a M3 E92 for a couple of years. Best sports car ever made.
Why did you sell it?
what happend ?
I bought a GTR, wanted more power
Never chase power. It’s about feel.
@@nicklevin9321 I felt like I needed more power :)
@vetteburna the M performance exhaust is significantly louder than the stock exhaust on the M3, but yes, we do mic up the exhaust when we film.
how would a mustang keep up?

***** to be fair, the time i posted that and read this comment I've stopped caring about cars lol waste of money
***** I've got a WRX and a SS still lol.
just got boring
+Jared Tate the mustang has almost 100lb/ft of torque MORE than the e90 m3 (390 vs 295) and both cars weigh about the same. There's your answer.
Planning on picking up a used 2010 - 2011 E90 sedan M3 with 6 speed manual and other goodies. Pure perfection. Want to keep this car for many many years to come. The engine will never get old.

Don't like the sound of the m4 at all.
@@jo23bulls And behold in 2018 they are as low as 25k!! a bargain.
@rugbyman550 it is, but we put it in "automatic burnout" mode for the video, because smoke looks better than perfect launch.
This is what i live for
Um, read any test of a 2011+ Mustang GT vs an M3. They run identical times on the drag strip, and are within 1/10th of each other every lap on the road course.

@TechThem22 The car doesn't have run-flats, it has Michelin PS2 tires. And most transmissions have "lifetime" fluid these days.

Yeah there is almost no competition at that price though.... If you are going for an M3 the right thing to do is get this one, but then again I love my cars overstuffed. LOL
I respectfully disagree. Here in LA I see tons of 10 year old E46 and 15 year old E36 M3's, none of which are worth a second glance.
great review but you did not use launch control correctly
Got to be one of the best aging videos around.
what u used isnt the launch control

Did you get 6spd or DCT
@jsiszero it has 2 modes, "race launch" and "burnout" Clearly I used the second mode in that shot because it looks better for camera.
3:56 ...I cry everytime.
you can buy them from the smoking tire website.
The best m3. ♥️
@riverdave7 Not yet, but they are working on it. Should be ready in a few more months.

They kill them without a tune, they produce GOBS more torque and a little more HP. But it would've been dope if they threw TT's on the V8 lol.
They have gone back to their roots, but the V-8 in the M3 was a first time thing. People had so many good memories.
@Symbrio on a race track, the Mustang is just as stable as the M3. It's when the road gets bumpy that the Mustang hops around.
6:13 --- OH MY LORD!!!!
@Multip3N There are several pro-driver recorded lap times where the mustang is within a tenth or two f the M3, on a road course, publicly available,
Man Matt, I really miss these videos. Wish you'd do more of these. The one-take's are cool, but a bit crass... :/
Could imagine the cost, effort and time involved
@besttyler that's if you want to do a grippy launch. I wanted to do a smokey launch because it looks better on camera.
I think you just sold me an M3?
Just bought a 35K mile 2011 with this spec to join our 2003 M3 Vert 6 speed and out 2000 M5. One word, wow.
great mix……i started with 2013 m3 comp coupe DCT 25k mi…..want the e39 m5 or e60 but gonna jump to an M6 shark and be done unless i get rich lol
I miss the old intros man!
Just because a car looks good doesn't mean it's worth a second glance. They are common as can be. Not collectors items, not worth saving, just used cars like any other.
M3 come second to nothing in its competition. Good review. But that comment was quite wrong.
@feloinca No can do. RS5 is not available in the US.
when i get one of these things I'm changing the headlights to LEDS, nothing kills the look of a car more than those crappy dirty yellow looking lights
@MrCabrooks22 The E46 was from 2001 through 2006. This is the E90/92
I will never sell my 08' .. Never
@branzilla If you had watched the video, I clearly say that the point of this car is NOT for racing, it's for the person who wants one car to do everything well.
I want a 1M with that engine
And an E92 with the V10 from the M5!
and a M8 with F22 jet engine
@andrestnt we're doing that comparison test for The Car Show, coming on Speed.
Just got my M3 its fucking fast!!!! :)
Wow you replied to my comment, i have watched every single video of Garage419 and Smoking Tire and i have commented only a few times in your videos but you have responded everytime i have commented. Thanks for taking time to answers questions/comments of your fans
guys!!
+gman77dt lol. are you drunk? mustangs are in a junkyard after 25-30 years. because they will be rusted away to nothing after 15.
Pretty sure Mustangs make up most classic cars.
i watched this about 3 times, i dowloaded it to my ipod, and posted it on my facebook wall for two reasons:
1. Matt you are amazing and possibly the best car reviewer ive ever watched! you are truly amazing!
2. because this is possibly the best car you have ever tested because of what you said because it is one of the best all around cars in the world!
thank you for posting this awesome video and truly making my day!
Loose the background piano music please. Sounds like a funeral parlor.
Wow I can't believe I haven't found your reviews before! Great stuff! I really liked this one and I'll look out for your others in the future.
DCT in an M3!? Hahaha what a joke!
Djonkie Bonk Yeah I have to agree with John. It just makes sense to have a MT on a car like this.
Seattle(206) Same here, M3 with a DCT is a disgrace. MT is the way to go, specially for the M3.
Matt,
Thank you for taking the time to response. I think you do an awesome job and you definately picked up a fan. I am also ordering the glasses.
Keep up the good work and hope to see more of your reviews in the future.
You made me love this car so much more.
@rforracing I disagree about the V10. It makes no torque, burns oil like crazy, and has reliability issues. It does sound good though
@ksacool we did a written review on the E550 coupe on our main site, and Mercedes hasn't returned one of our calls since.
@Danny7930 that's a great buy on the used market. Just save up a couple grand for when you want to rip the seats out and get new ones.
@eeeen321 yeah, because drag races don't look very good when you only show one camera angle. It's the same reason we don't do it.
@epicWINNER101 doesn't matter, both cars came with OEM tires. If Ford decides to put better tires on the Mustang than BMW does on the M3, so be it.
@opethmike The Ford Raptor that we use as a camera car in all our videos.
Just picked up a 2012 BMW M3 coupe with Competition Package and DCT trans. Absolutely love the car. First non manual car I have ever owned. The DCT is so much fun to drive and so precise.
Me to bro, got mine yesterday 2011 fully loaded ;-)
@Biocide201 Yes, it would. But its base price is also $25,000 higher than the M3's, and I wouldn't call it a real 4-seater, whereas the M3 is.
Best video by far. Better camera shots and the review comes out especially sincere
