A musical piece called the "American Quartet", written by an Austrian-Czech composer, played on a Chinese (I suppose) plane by musicians from all over the world ... that's the spirit we as humans should work to achieve!
They must not have lots of room to move their bows (especially the cellist)! Yet, they did such a good job. Just looking at the score scares me a little...
I wish someone would just be the designated filmer and then everyone else wouldn't be trying to film over each others shoulders so they can actually enjoy the music.
Couldn't agree with you more. Went to a concert last night, people are so concerned wanting to film, they miss the whole damn thing...and it is a bit annoying...
i would prefer to be close to the musicians then staying in seats, its just that in concerts there needs to be some sort of order as there are alot of people
no internet dinosours game I'm a bit confused by your argument. At a coencert there is order because there are a lot of people in a big space, so they arrange places for people in a way that everybody can enjoy the concert. On the airplane there isn't even enough space for 2 people to walk through the aisle in two different directions, let alone when the flight attendant goes from point a to point b with the cart. There would be way less space to stand, so I'd prefer to sit than to be closer to the musician. It doesn't change the fact that I'll be closer than on any other concert.
Imagine going back in time and telling Dvorak that 1: We invented giant metal transportation devices that fly tens of thousands of feet in the air and 2: that one his pieces was performed in one of those objects as it was floating in the sky.
basically if you don't want your instrument crushed to pieces your buy a seat for it my friend bought a seat for her bass and it actually got upgraded to first class without her and it was really funny
Maybe the average person can't get to a concert but thanks to utube and all the wonderful people who post orchestra music for us, we can hear any classical or orchestra song. I usually spend 1 1/2 hrs each evening listening to music. Enjoy!
fun story once I was in the Philadelphia airport waiting for my connecting flight back to Texas and our flight was delayed by 3 hours (plus 2 hours stuck on the tarmac due to dangerous weather) and there were some flute players performing in the airport to pass the time and it was really cool
Actually, there were musicians on the Titanic, and they went down with the ship while they played consoling music to try and calm people down as long as they could. They were well respected for what their heroism, and one surviving passenger said afterward: "Many brave things were done that night, but none were more brave than those done by men playing minute after minute as the ship settled quietly lower and lower in the sea. The music they played served alike as their own immortal requiem and their right to be recalled on the scrolls of undying fame." -Wikipedia
that's why I said it would be LIKE Titanic, as it would be basically the same thing. It was a cruel joke anyway, I don't expect you to go hunting for actual facts and cite your sources lol
Oh, okay. I guess the reason why I replied was because you said 'but' instead of 'with the'. Sorry. Also, the research didn't take much time at all. I just remembered something from a book I read and just verified what I remembered. The Wikipedia page was pretty short anyway, there was not a lot about them. So don't worry, if you did.
***** see that's the problem of basically anything now, everybody's busy snapping pictures or videotapping, nobody's really letting themselves into enjoying anymore.
Exactly, it's not every day, so sit back and enjoy it! I have great visual memories of concerts from 30+ years ago! All I needed was my eyes and ears. So glad I didn't stand there holding a phone aloft.
***** agreed. No wonder the prevalence of dementia is rising. People just aren't using their brains to make lasting memories anymore. I'm not saying this is the cause. Just saying that it can't hurt to use our brains once in a while.
Mark Linton Yumi Kendall is the cellist. She is one of the nicest people ever. Unless it is a charter flight, she has to buy a seat for her instrument. Bass or double bass have to buy 2 or more seats as I understand.
+Mark Linton Everyone! enless you want your cello broken in half! (you can buy bigger cases for cello so its safe, but they're expensive so usually we bring them with us!)
This would have been the coolest delayed flight to be on! What a special treat to get to hear such talented musicians play. So awesome of them to play for everyone!
But, you didn't listen to this. You weren't in the airplane, you didn't bear through the agony of waiting on the tarmac only to be surprised by beauty in a place of monotony. Watching recorded performances and listening to them is great, but there is something to be said about being fully there in all your cognitive/ sensory/ other capacities. When you film such a performance, you miss out on being at the performance that you are actually attending because of "I gotta capture this" syndrome. Technology is great. But if we are not careful, technology will rob us all of our humanity... And I type that on a computer as I respond to a RUclips video on the internet... Sometimes life is sad.
Dylan Rendall Considering many of these instruments are worth a lot of money, not to mention priceless to their owners, would you trust yours to the baggage handlers and the cargo bays for a commercial flight?
As a double bass player myself, I can tell you with reasonable certainty that a standard 3/4 size double bass will not fit on-board most planes, not even in the aisles, and must be stowed away or even shipped to the destination on another plane. Even if you had the bass on-board, you would probably not have any room to play, anyways. Bass problems, man.

So true .
Oddly enough reminded me of that scene in titanic when they play a piece just before the end.

I just realized that an airplane full of people has great acoustics: very dead like a recording studio.
H. H.
Expensive the studio xD
H. H. Who woulda thunk it...i might do my next recording session on an airplane. I believe that's just a phone... sounds incredible
Look up back cello suite no.1 by yoyoma to see without the acoustics. It’s incredibly soothing. It’ll fix your issue
H. H. Fc
what performance would be complete without someone forgetting to turn their phone off! LOL
+Isaac Murphy They are on a plane, not in a concert hall. So they are excused.
+Isaac Murphy quite well-timed too. not that out of timing.
Isaac Murphy heck, if this were a concert hall, why would it be so narrow? 😐
Isaac Murphy that ring was pretty nice with the rest of the music tho
hahahahahah..... to the others who replied to Isaac Murphy... Note added "LOL"..
The acoustics of that plane are very nice sounding for some reason
It's dry, so everything is so very clean and clear.
Ya like a recording studio

That ring went well with it
moodyticar Vlogs yah!
How did they allow her to bring the cello board???
maybe she paid full price seat for the cello?...lol...
it's what you normally do, especially for expensive cellos
same with most instruments, even if you put a fragile sticker on it. I've even heard a story of someone getting A POLE stuck through their saxophone

Great way to pass the slowest three hours of life. Very Nice; great sound; fine virtuosity.
Very cool but so sad to see everyone straining to film it on their phones instead of just sitting back, enjoying the music and making a memory. :(
