  • After so many nights of bugs flying into me and after 3 attacks by yellow jackets I decided to fight back and make my own custom home made 10KV Bug Zapper. This video shows my first demonstration of it in action!

    That's the quality of the bug zappers of the 80s. When we were little, we were told once not to touch it. The problem with the new zappers is the stupid safety cage on the outer ring. Cuts the performance down 90%. You need the fly death upon landing. Good job sir!

    I just picked up a really cool vintage bug zapper called "the D bugger" made in Wisconsin in the 1970's
    Looks like a heavy duty bird cage with a metal barn roof look to it.

    That thing is gnarly. I can imagine if a large bug got stuck on that. If you make the grid so it has fingers interlaced together with a top grid and bottom grid. Hard to describe in a comment but look up flowtron bug zappers and look closely at the electrified grid and you'll see.
    I do like the jacob's ladder effect.

    That thing is so bad ass! I want one I live behind a swamp that could really use this.

    My last comment on part 1 was wondering if 10kV was overkill but I have to say that's a beautiful sight. It's practically self cleaning as it obliterates anything that goes through it followed by the jacob's ladder cleaning effect going on there. Nice job!

      I made other bug zappers one is twice as big as this one and the other is smaller but with bigger holed mesh, look through my upload video list they should be easy to find...

    Can I use two 5000volt Transformers to make it 10.000volt

    • @TheZafootz
      @TheZafootz  2 года назад +1

      Yes you would hook them up in series by splitting the A/C line into a pair so you have 2 black wires and 2 white wires and connect them to both transformers. Then Connect 1 lead of the 2nd winding of the 1st transformer to 1 end lead of the 2nd transformer. You should have 2 ends one from each 2nd winding of your transformers connect those to the cages 1 inner and one on the outer cage then power up. GL

    What is your gap I got the same furnace ignitor as you it arks at 1/2 inch so I spaced it for 1 inch but now bugs make it all the way in to the 400 watt mh lamp starting to think that the ignitor is a dud but it did make a ark

    Is there a way to get the plans to build it?

    • @TheZafootz
      @TheZafootz  6 лет назад +2

      It only has 3 parts (transformer, Inner/outer cages, and 1 light bulb) both the light bulb and transformer plug into 120 volt outlet but the 2 leads of high voltage from the transformer are connected to the cages, 1 on the inner and one on the outer cage but must be kept apart from each other from transformer to each cage keeping the high voltage gap at the 2 cages.

    can you tell me how to make one? spacing of the wire mesh and cost of material? ive looked everywhere but they just show the end result but dont describe how to make one.

    • @TheZafootz
      @TheZafootz  7 лет назад +1

      Justin Bates Be more then happy to. I used bird cage mesh, but any wire mesh will do as long as it has inductance. I'm using an ignition transformer but neon transformers work as well. go at least 6kv I used a 4kv neon transformer and it didn't zap enough, it more or less set them on fire. Look up high voltage neon or ignition transformer voltage grade is up to you. the light bulb u should be able to find. As for spacing the cages, you gonna have to adjust based on voltage. 4kv is about 1/2" to 1" , I have this gap about 2-3" As long as its not continuously sparking and close enough that the bugs can't just fly right through... sometimes really tiny ones slip by if the gap is too wide. Good Luck

      I posted up more then 1 of these videos using the 10kv and I think one with the 4kv neon transformer as well..... Look up my uploaded videos I guess ........ ruclips.net/video/UO81jfyzMwc/видео.html there is another video that has more bugs getting zapped then this one........

    Next challenge:
    Can it keep “score”?

    • @TheZafootz
      @TheZafootz  5 лет назад +1

      Possibly, but after a week or 2 it would have a number higher then the current US of A nation debt total. After a while the score would be meaningless with no final score nor clock time to run out. But no mater the body count nothing beats that most beautiful sound in the world, the sound of electric sparks vaporizing insects muhuhahaha!
