Great video, I followed along step by step. Came to the same conclusion. All checked out same as the video. Relay good, jumped starter, ignition good. Problem at the ground terminal. One years of tech training in eight minutes. Coming from a schooled technician you are great with your skill.
Also keep in mind of what can prevent that ground signal. Things like the car has to be in park/neutral, and the security featured not activated. Those will prevent the computer from delivering that ground as well so make sure that's not what's preventing it.

There are black keys for PATS... The best way is to check your owners manual for what type of key you have and google or check online service manual. Everyone should be aware that even though the situation alone with the relay might apply pretty much across the diagnosis board, your security key may not be grey. Grey may apply to put cruisers. So everyone just be aware of that one! I like this video, it is very informative though!
yeah this is pretty much PT ch- the guy seems knows the PT inside and out. I'm thankful he has a ch hooking up layman like myself. I bet he has saved me tens of hundreds of dollars.
Mine was doing that. I figured it out without towing it was wires in steering column. The wires are frayed and tilt wheel has to be in middle position. I still like to fix it right.
Wow, thank you. We changed the PCM from a Gray key to a gray key thinking it would have a better chance to match. That was two years ago. First it started like an old Chevy in the winter. But it started. Gradually the dragging on the starter increased. Then it would crank, then click, and then nothing. Been through the fuses a lot, checked the battery, starter, alternator (yep) changed cables. This is after replacing the head, mounts, struts and radiator.
Your the greatest Can you take the pcm and skim from a car scrapped for parts as i was advised I couldn't just change the pcm but if I took both skim and pcm and the key and barrel I wouldn't need to get them programed How do you tell if it's the pcm or skim is my other question own a s1 2002 dream cruiser with no crank

Sat back in the driver seat to start it....one click sound and then back to square one.

Hello my friend, thanks for watching. You cant quite test this circuit like that. Whats going on is theres no voltage seen at the PCM when the ASD relay energized. Thats usually from at open circuit. ok so I have 11 volts at pin 30 but when I jump it the voltage goes low (using a meter) as in micro voltage. all the are testing good so what would be the next step for me? I can jump pin 87 from battery and the car turns over. I can turn the key and the 85 and 86 make the connection and I get 12 volts so its just the supply voltage to 30 that seems to be the issue. Was doing 70 on the freeway all the sudden oil light came on solid car started to lose speed and it was like the gas pedal wouldn't work so I posted to the shoulder of the road turned off the car realize the radiator was cracked and then oil change and I can't get the car to start it will crank but it won't start.... Hey bud, typical pin 87 likely headed straight to starter. You TIPM pins could be spread or loose at the bottom. Did it have any ignition codes? Also are you subscribed to the channel?
I'm having the same issue besides I was able to start it a few times but as soon as I put it into gear it killed it what do you think that could be it's like the the moving of the stick would have make it immediately die from neutral to first gear it would just be like an automatic kill switch and now it does no crank at all any suggestions???? Why would I have to keep replacing the 26 ENG ASD Relay Feed 2 fuse? I recently had the cam crank POS sensor, fuel module and fuel pump, valve cover gaskets, and ignition relay replaced. Does this have anything to do with it?

@@edardon16 It does have a security key. But a no crank condition can be ran at the starter relay. If the key is the problen this test will reveal that. You will need a real good scan tool to see if your security key preventing you from cranking bud.

@@OnlineMechanicTips 1st start of the day, yes turns over bout 5 times then starts.then later in the day it’s 1-3 turn overs. Shorter restart time; less turnover/cranks. Hope o explained it ok.

Excellent Video. Quick question. I have a 2002 Pt Cruiser. I jumped Pin 30 and 87 with a wire. Starter Just Clicked, still no crank. Pin 86 has 12V when Ignition Switch is turned. Pin 85 does nothing. Does that mean I got a bad PCM and a Bad Starter? Again, starter just clicks when I wire-jump it. Security light doesn't flash, either. no bud, when you jump 12 volts to the starter the way you did and your starter solenoid just clicked, that means your starter has internal problems. Dont bother pin 85, it's the ground signal from the pcm..replace your starter..dont forget to sub the channel and give the video a thumbs up, thanks
hey one quick note. you should be hearing that same click from the starter with everything in place normally. That assures the circuit is complete. so have somebody turn key with relay and all in place, if you hear starter click, replace starter, if not you got more diagnosing to do..food luck bud
@@OnlineMechanicTips Yes sir. When the Relay is in place I hear the same click everytime the key is turned. So, I suppose that confirms the Starter has some kind of internal failure.
Look up parastatic draw. Something is still on. Plenty of videos on that. But you need a multimeter. They are cheap. But a loose trunk light, glove box light, dome light have drained my battery on a PT and i found it with that test i mentioned
Awesome video thank you! I get 12 volts when key is turned and I’m able to use a jumper to get the starter to turn over. I was able to get approx 11.8 volts when I put my multimeter on the positive battery terminal to the pin coming from the PCM. But I still have no crank no start. Is it a security system thing at this point? Any suggestions?
Then that simply mean your relay bad, im sure you swapped relays first but so you know, thats not a good way to verify the PCM is grounding the circuit. Is this a stick or an automatic trans..Those inputs are seen with a scan tool..Also have you subscribed to the channel?

Question :08 Saturn aura with a new alternator and new starter . The belt currently needs to be changed . The car starts about five times then it won’t click or anything . Also no light pops up on my dash . What’s missing ?
That’s the internal security locking out the starter. You need to get the coded key to match your car’s transponder/receiver and that should take care of that
Hey what's your Facebook link? I have another issue that's nothing to do with the Nag and wanted to show you a small clip of a small issue with a new Rack and Pinion i just installed a few months ago.
Thats cool, Im gonna try to post a 15 second clip, The pinch bolt on the intermediate shaft connecting to the rack and pinion doesn't seem like it tightens to the spline, The pinch bolt is as tight as i can get it and i can pull the shaft back and forth about a half an inch, Almost like the the spline on the rack is too small.
@@OnlineMechanicTips Just had that situation 2 days after buying an 03 GT. Pulled the starter, tested, was fine. Bad Knock sensor replaced it. Replaced the ignition switch and cleaned up some other connections. Thinking it was the ignition switch.

You need 3 things for start. I guess battery is not one of them?

Hello my friend, im not understanding your question..But if you jumper pi 30 to 87, the starter should spin over. If it does not spin over, you need to check the starter ground and connections at the starter. Please thumbs up the video and subscribe to the channel for me, thanks

@@edardon16 It does have a security key. But a no crank condition can be ran at the starter relay. If the key is the problen this test will reveal that. You will need a real good scan tool to see if your security key preventing you from cranking bud.
What if tge relay clicks until batt is dead?

@@OnlineMechanicTips have had scanned with our FIXD, no codes. Yep, you have a lot of helpful videos :) I replaced the fuel pump, plugs, wires, coil, camshaft sensor and target magnet
@@angeladebeltz1903 OK im going to assume when you say hard crank, you really mean long crank. No this is important. When you turn the key to the crank position, is the engine just spinning over a long period of time but not starting? Is that the case?
@@OnlineMechanicTips 1st start of the day, yes turns over bout 5 times then starts.then later in the day it’s 1-3 turn overs. Shorter restart time; less turnover/cranks. Hope o explained it ok.
Yes a long crank, from cold 5-15 seconds of cranking, warm it starts quick

my car cut off while i was driving. i turned it off and it wont crank or start does nothing all lights are on and i noticed there is a red solid light on that wasnt before. radio everything works makes no noise idk wth it could be
Excellent Video. Quick question. I have a 2002 Pt Cruiser. I jumped Pin 30 and 87 with a wire. Starter Just Clicked, still no crank. Pin 86 has 12V when Ignition Switch is turned. Pin 85 does nothing. Does that mean I got a bad PCM and a Bad Starter? Again, starter just clicks when I wire-jump it. Security light doesn't flash, either. Thanks a bunch for sharing the knowledge. 👍🏼
no bud, when you jump 12 volts to the starter the way you did and your starter solenoid just clicked, that means your starter has internal problems. Dont bother pin 85, it's the ground signal from the pcm..replace your starter..dont forget to sub the channel and give the video a thumbs up, thanks

hey one quick note. you should be hearing that same click from the starter with everything in place normally. That assures the circuit is complete. so have somebody turn key with relay and all in place, if you hear starter click, replace starter, if not you got more diagnosing to do..food luck bud
@@OnlineMechanicTips Yes sir. When the Relay is in place I hear the same click everytime the key is turned. So, I suppose that confirms the Starter has some kind of internal failure.
if ignition ist working and the switch (black box ) is new how to you know if the key went bad or if its the skim box?

Look up parastatic draw. Something is still on. Plenty of videos on that. But you need a multimeter. They are cheap. But a loose trunk light, glove box light, dome light have drained my battery on a PT and i found it with that test i mentioned

I get 12 volts when key is turned and I’m able to use a jumper to get the starter to turn over. I was able to get approx 11.8 volts when I put my multimeter on the positive battery terminal to the pin coming from the PCM. But I still have no crank no start. Is it a security system thing at this point? Any suggestions?
Then that simply mean your relay bad, im sure you swapped relays first but so you know, thats not a good way to verify the PCM is grounding the circuit. Is this a stick or an automatic trans..Those inputs are seen with a scan tool..Also have you subscribed to the channel?

Question :08 Saturn aura with a new alternator and new starter . The belt currently needs to be changed . The car starts about five times then it won’t click or anything . Also no light pops up on my dash . What’s missing ?
That’s the internal security locking out the starter. You need to get the coded key to match your car’s transponder/receiver and that should take care of that

Thats cool, Im gonna try to post a 15 second clip, The pinch bolt on the intermediate shaft connecting to the rack and pinion doesn't seem like it tightens to the spline, The pinch bolt is as tight as i can get it and i can pull the shaft back and forth about a half an inch, Almost like the the spline on the rack is too small.
My starter relay used to click. It doesn't now
This is exactly how my 2008 Equinox is behaving. I swapped out the starter relay and still nothing.
I got a 1994 it doesn't have a starter relay
I have an 07 Chrysler Aspen no start no crank it just clicks beside the fuse box

@@OnlineMechanicTips Just had that situation 2 days after buying an 03 GT. Pulled the starter, tested, was fine. Bad Knock sensor replaced it. Replaced the ignition switch and cleaned up some other connections. Thinking it was the ignition switch.
