I started as a fan of this channel, then everybody on this channel was kind enough to accept me as a streamer in this channel. Today this episode has reaffirmed, rather cemented my position as a fan of this channel forever. As an appreciator of biology/popular science books, Anand Gandhi (both as a person and a creator), Vaani's charm and overall books, I have been immensely moved by this episode. All I can say is that this was a tremendous episode, a stepping stone in my opinion, congratulations for this collaboration and best wishes for future endeavors.
Here is the List of Books Recommended by Anand Gandhi : Children's Knowledge Bank (Vol - 2) by Pustak Mahal The Lives of a Cell by Lewis Thomas The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins What is Life by Lynn Margulis Fountainhead by Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand Anthem by Ayn Rand We the Living by Ayn Rand The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams Angels in America by Tony Kushner The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean
Anand Gandhi has always been a personal hero and benchmark for me, but seeing him not restraint by genre and medium perhaps explains why he is such a genius. Academia, social media and the industry itself has made it so hard for people to explore mediums, often limiting people in a vicious echo chamber when it comes to content. Glad to see him not be affected by that.

Started today's morning with this amazing interview. Please watch it completely for some great ideas & recommendations. The interview is more than lists. What Anand Gandhi recommended here: Books & Poetry: Children's Knowledge Bank, Lives of a Cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher by Lewis Thomas, The Selfish Gene by Dawkins, What is Life? by Lynn Margulis, Books by Ayn Rand, The Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Gujarati Poems by Ramesh Parekh, Gujarati Poems by Saumya Joshi, Papers by Richard Thaler, A Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Juet by David Mitchell, A Note to the Chinese Reader by Leonard Cohen, Angels of America by Tony Kushner, Movies: Adaptation, The Prestige RUclips channels: Key & Peele, Lectures on Human Behavioral Biology by Professor Robert Sapolsky Music Albums: Einstein on the Beach by Philip Glass, Johann Johannsson
Wasn't expecting Anand Gandhi to be Ayn Rand fan, I now see where his centrist-liberal political thoughts come from. still an admirer of his cinematic skills and intellectual prowess.
Arrival soundtrack is my favourite also, it was like a meditative music when I first heard that but now it makes me upset because Jóhann Jóhansson is no more with us to make such incredible music
I found both Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged equally legendary in the proportions of their themes. But I'd place Atlas Shrugged just a bit above Fountainhead for how it uses the literary devices and techniques to make itself look more elegant and eloquent.
Anand Gandhi is a moviemaker who changes you within You are not the same person that you are when start watching the film of Anand Gandhi, by the time the movie is over you are a slightly different person a better person. It touches - transforms - changes something deep withinn you.
I can't thank you enough for this interview... This is exactly what i was looking for me... Thank you so much... Anand Gandhi is such a role model for me :)
I'm very late here I know. Just wanted to say that Ship of Theseus is different. Definitely the best Indian movie of the last decade. Anand Gandhi has this camerawork of Bergman and Tarkovsky movies and has a structure of Kieslowski.
I'm sorry but the host has no idea how to interview Gandhi, who is obviously too intellectual for her. She would rather interview film stars and shoot some light-hearted questions to them.
I am huge Robert Sapolsky fan, and watched his lecture series on Human behaviour biology in my college, really enjoyed it. Recommend Robert sapolsky's book Behave.
Gosh! What an amazing person Anand is. I stumbled across this site by chance and, boy, am I glad! Got some new recommendations, while some matched. And Vaani, you are so charming, you made me hide my screen from my partner.
John Oliver did a 'How is this still a thing' episode on Ayn Rand. After watching it, I feel better about myself for not having finished Fountainhead. So artsy fartsy. And this guy has more than 1 Rand books in his list. Pretentious.
Big fan of the channel. But I have question. Why do you have to stick to a particular amount of time a video should be, when Anand was clearly ready to explain and indulge more?
Hey guy, really appreciate your channel. You're doing great work. I just wanted to let you know that you've got David Mitchell's picture wrong. The guy in the video is the comedian and author but not the one who wrote the book Anand's talking about. Reference: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Mitchell_(author) Thank you!
Philosophically u still the same brilliant,That seagulls story I still didn’t understand ,but Biologically u have started looking like Amol Palekar , “The Anand Gandhi” -The Insignificant Man.
somehow we should promote his films. many prople says his movies are not for indian audience but there are enough english movie fans and Korean movie fans but the dont support their own independent art movies.i discovered about him in this lockdown and his knowledge blew me away they are not getting right promotions other Bollywood directors are not great directors but great marketing people.
Vaani you should have written or fomed your questions before this interview because after the first three reccos everything was going without any direction
There are plenty intellectuals who criticize Ayn Rand too. Personally (and paradoxically) I find Ayn Rand's theory of objectivism very much like communism. Attractive when you're young, not so much as you grow up. Five point someone is a decent enough book that upon the time it was released opened the dialogue on India's education system. An insider's account of the rot and rote prevalent inside our so called premier institutions (I'm a doctor myself, an MD from of the best cancer institutes in the country and I concur). Would I rate Five point someone as a great work of literature? No. Would I look down upon anyone who's read and liked it? Emphatically no. We sometimes suffer from a sort of intellectual snobbery and are wont to literally judge a book by its cover. Please don't do that.

Ayn Rand is trash. She was a hypocrite and the ideas that she espoused in her books through her powerful writing were far removed from reality.

Every Indian youth should read Fountainhead by ayn rand. It's real inspiring and shows how one should choose his or her work.
I found both Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged equally legendary in the proportions of their themes. But I'd place Atlas Shrugged just a bit above Fountainhead for how it uses the literary devices and techniques to make itself look more elegant and eloquent.

One of my regret is reading Atlas Shrugged and I wish I had instead read War and Peace or some other great classic. Fountainhead was still ok.

Yes pretentious is the word you should use Erudite Sourav!
The guy at 16:07 is David Mitchell the comedian not the novelist.
