Thank you Scotland for your hospitality, and for building such incredible roads! I hope this Video encourages others to visit too 🏴🫡 Any questions, just ask 👇🏻
'Wonderful place to be' is bang on. Scotland is a best place to road trip -- and the Bed and Breakfast hosts are friendliest people anywhere. Would love to road trip there again... in an EV this time.
Yes, the B&Bs are so welcoming! Have used many on previous trips. Thought it best to book hotels for this one so we had a bar & dinner! You should do it, book it! 🙂
Next time I’m in the UK , Scotland is on my list.😅 The largest EV charging company here in Québec is Circuit Électrique, and for the last 3 years each time they install charging units they are in a configuration of four, one 50kwh, one 100kwh and two 180kwh chargers….and they’re everywhere……and they work whether it’s-30c or +30c. 😮
I think Tesla is working on a queuing system actually. However they would rather just build more stations as fast as they can. The biggest problem is getting local utilities (as in an older area in Scotland) to upgrade their antique services to be able to support such a station.
They’ve got enough wind power to power almost all of Scotland! just need to build battery storage next to superchargers practically anywhere - Voila! (Oh it sounds so simple 😂)
@@TeslaJigsaw LOL! The bugger is running the lines capable of carrying that power to the charger sites from the wind generator.... unless it's next door? This is one of the advantages of the U.S.... everything (other than our blinking cars) is electric. We are power mad. So there is substantial electrical lines running to even small towns. Our holdup is regulatory paperwork mostly.
Ah! That old, rusty Mallaig ChargePoint Scotland was one of my favourites!! Did a quick tour round Scotland, including JO’G and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, last March (in a non-Tesla EV too!) and found charging to be not too much of an issue. Exception was a couple of the CPS sites, one unit not working, one only delivery about 1.5 on DC (Secret weapon: I was in a Renault e-Tech which is one of the few cars that can take 22kW on AC!! 👍🏻) Definitely caused me a bit of “Charger-Anxiety” but nobody died in an EV-fireball, so that’s alright!
Cracking Video Will ! 😂 charging infrastructure for Tesla was the main reason for moving to a model Y. It just so happened to also be an amazing car with some brilliant features as well…… 🤷🏼♂️😂🥂
@@TeslaJigsaw Definitely ! The fact the car routes you to the most suitable supercharger for your route and tells you how long you’ll be there, with none of the faf using proprietary apps, is so intuitive and logical. Completely takes the stress of charging out of the equation. OTA software updates are amazing too! Keep up with the great content please. The fish slap was a genius inclusion 🤣😂
Most 20 zones in Scotland including the one you were in are 20mph WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE FLASHING. 30 at other times. The lights come on when kids are walking to school. Buch better than England where the 20's are focused on property values. Drivers in Scotland are therefore more willing to obey the Scottish 20's
Hawick! Lol love the Englander pronunciation! Ha ha as an 'in commer' myself you learn fast! Great vid beautiful country! Love Scotland - gods country! AND purple burglar alarm!! 😂😂😂
I live in Scotland, and there are Teslas all over the place. Seriously, you can't throw a stick without hitting one. On Saturday I charged at the Tesla superchargers in Dundee, whole row of Teslas with my MG4 in the middle of them. Should have taken a photo! The Tesla drivers were friendly! (Probably because the MG4 has its charging port in the same place as a Tesla so I don't block a stall.)
Ha ha, yes, I tried to remain calm & rational when coming across other EVs blocking 2 stalls because of their charge port location - It's not the owners fault is it?! 😂 It was great to see so many EVs in Scotland - hope you are enjoying your MG4? 👍
@@TeslaJigsaw There was a big van with a charging port front left blocking two stalls at the end of the row in Dundee. In fact though there wasn't a point where all the stalls were taken and in particular nobody had to wait while I was there. I sat in the car for a bit after I'd got what I needed, just taking on a bit extra, prepared to move if someone came and there wasn't a free place, but in fact the two Teslas either side of me went before I did. It must be screamingly annoying if you have a Tesla and you can't get in because there are non-Teslas charging. (I hope Elon just goes on installing more and more chargers though, so everyone can relax.) The MG4 is absolutely great. I've had it a year now and I'm still looking for excuses to drive it. Also, even though it's the SR which is only 51 kwh and only charges at 88 kw max, I can and do road trip it. I can see that you'd want the longer range and the faster charging if you did a lot of that, especially in a hurry, but the SR is good for 150 miles real world, easily, and it's no chore to have a break after that.
@@moragkerr9577 Ahh, nice! I'm very happy that Tesla are opening their charging network to everybody... it shows their obvious commitment to their mission. They are frantically building more superchargers around the World... what a shame other Car Companies couldn't be bothered?! Great to hear about the MG4 - I'm yet to drive one but they look great & seem very good value. Enjoy beautiful Scotland! 🙂
@@TeslaJigsaw I was hearing that Toyota were washing their hands of the problems experienced by people who bought Mirais, saying it wasn't their job to provide hydrogen! And that was after their salesmen apparently telling some customers that the car would be as easy to fuel as a petrol car. They deserve to fail. (Although I think you have to be a special sort of stupid to buy a hydrogen car in the first place.) The MG4 drives like a dream, you should try one. Although I hear extremely great things about the Tesla driving experience, of course! The MG4 is the only EV I have ever driven (apart from one extremely wet afternoon in a Peugeot e208 courtesy car) so I don't have much comparison, but I came to it from a Golf GTi and I'm not disappointed, so there's that. It's probably best if there isn't an apartheid in charging, with people having to use the chargers provided by their own manufacturer, and if Tesla can make money as an electricity supplier then go for it! It will benefit everyone.
Im a scot living in Sussex. Have to say the country roads in Scotland are much better due to their condition in comparison to South east of England which are in terrible condition and constantly busy. Also, anyone else notice the motorways all the way from Brighton to Carlisle are made with the noisiest road surface on the planet ( i was told the Gov chooses it to help drive us out of our cars). Once you pass Carlisle the difference is like night and day. So much quieter. The general infrastructure across England , not just roads, its everything iis decrepit and literally falling apart.
That particular village in my video (the only video footage I had of a 20mph zone) is only 20 when lights flash… however most Scottish villages are now 20mph permanently
When I go see my parents in coos bay Oregon, west coast of the US, the trip is 920 miles from Los Angeles. I do the trip in 1 day and it takes 13.5 hours in a gas car and 15.5 hours in my Tesla, using only Tesla superchargers. I can’t imagine what you guys went through.
@@TeslaJigsaw yeah but we don’t get such beautiful scenery as that. Been a long time since I have been in that area driving around on a road trip with my brother nearly 30 years ago now. A guy here in Australia from Perth has driven around Australia in a Model Y. He is the chairman of the Perth Tesla club. Quite a feat to do that. But said not an issue as we now have chargers all the way around and are getting more due to government providing funding for one every 200km. There will be exceptions but no range anxiety… as long as they work! 😂
@@alastairhatt360 I hear Australia is really embracing EVs now, which is great. Hope to visit some day and do a Tesla road trip! So long as there's Tesla Superchargers... Road trips are a doddle
I used the phone’s microphone in this video, much better when recording with my new mic. But yes, my original M3 is not so quiet & refined as later models, let alone the new model 3 that is super quiet
Chargeplace Scotland used to be decent even just last year when I first got my Tesla, but since then it has gone down the pan, just totally wrecked. I believe they sold it off to a private company, so there you go, more evidence that Tory esque public infrastructure sell off is a terrible idea. How they weren't able to run it effectively within public ownership I'll never know. The charge prices have gone from c40p/kwh last April to now 70p/kwh everywhere, all while the wholesale electricity rates have dropped. That and half of them no longer work/aren't maintained. It's disgusting
It's councils that own most of them. It's just a game of pass the blame between CPS and the owners of each charger. A lot of councils quite happily take subsidies to install but maintenance is not what it could be. A lot of them have really stupid time limits too. RFID card recommended because mobile signals can be an issue in a lot of places. More supercharger sites definitely wanted.
I was trying to figure out how come you were going into Kyle looking for a ferry, but then it looks as if you went over the bridge at Kyle and the ferry was the return from Armadale, right?
