Young Sato vs Kim sun young in a flashback would be cool to see in season 6
I agree. Glad to see how Sato know about him, maybe they used to spar or be rivals. Sato probably used to just hurt the opponent and left them injured and Kim Sun young just kill them. Just saying. Let's see it when it come out.

I do agree that Master Kim has already passed away in the present day and most of his scenes will be purely flashbacks.
Yes, the closest match up we can get is Uncle Sato and Master Kim and I think it fits to see the origin of the rivalry between Sato and Master Kim.
Taking place a few years following World War 2 , somewhere between 1946 to 1950 prior to Korean War in 1951, the news about Mr. Miyagi receiving the Medal of Honor became the biggest headline that everyone in Okinawa keeps on going on and on.
Hearing about this, Master Kim Sun Yung and his star pupil George Turner visited Okinawa in recruiting soldiers but what he really wanted is to challenge Mr Miyagi right there.
Master Kim must have been expecting that Mr Miyagi will return to Okinawa and start his own dojo. Much to his disappointment, Master Kim would eventually find out that it is Sato Toguchi who is the military instructor as soon as he arrives in Okinawa, not Mr. Miyagi.
The moment Sato asked him why he visited his dojo, Master Kim expresses in disappointment that he doesn't get to have a spar with Mr. Miyagi as he looks at Sato as not worth his time of showing his skills as a martial artist by calling Sato's best friend a coward for not showing up. Of course, Sato challenges Master Kim out of defending the honor of his best friend.
This clearly shows a different side of Sato: he is willing to confront anyone who dares to insult Miyagi because both of them were trained by Mr Miyagi's father
With Kim Sun-Yung there I have no idea how Miyagi Fang can win since the only person that could’ve stopped him is dead.
I don't think he would be alive by now plus even if he is still alive that doesn't matter because the sekai taikai guy told Silver that this is entirely his students fighting abilities.
Why can’t Netflix just make a spin off show called “Miyagi” and gives KK and Cobra Kai fans his actual life growing up in Okinawa during the war, meeting Sato, falling in love with Yukie, leaving Okinawa, etc. there’s so much you can do with a prequel storyline for such an iconic and mysterious character.
Hold that thought. It may be coming next...

During The Sekai Taikai, Kim Da Eun and The Fist carry her senile elderly grandfather into the karate tournament like Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman supporting Terry Kiser's corpse during all the parties in Weekend At Bernie's.
The wiki says Kim Sun Yung is dead. Silver also implies it when Kim Da Eun first appears. Kim Da Eun’s goal is to spread Kim Sun Yung’s teachings. If he is alive, then why can’t he do it himself?

I presumed that Kim Sun-Yung have died of old age. That would be awesome if he's in Season 6. He's so strong in the dark side of Martial Arts that he can prolong his life.
I heard stories of great Martial Arts masters that can still go at an advance age, they can be dependent on a walking stick, but they can perform kata and almost move like a young human being. All the training is in their mind.

Maybe Kim sun Yung has vampire powers and is still alive at like at ultra-geriatric ages . In the flashback, it was 1980 and he was clearly an old man with white hair there. i am assuming that he was lbroadly 60-75 there. So he now somewhere between 104 and 119. The tiny, tiny number of human beings that are stil alive at age 104+(i in 50,000) are barely able to walk, let alone fight. They are usually deaf in one or two ears, their iris is so glycated that they can barely see, most of them have broken several bones from even minimals strain, many are bound to wheel chairs, and 75% have dementia. A 104 year old man is so old that he would have already been too old for the Korean War draft if he were an American male citizen(although, as a Korean, he did fight in that war). Think about how ridiculously old that is.
So, unless they give Kim sung Yung mystical or vampire powers, I don't see how he can be alive and kicking in 2024.
Yeah I would be surprised as well if he was still alive. On the 1980 flashback he looked about 60 and we also know that he was already a sensei during the Korean war which started in 1950 so he can't be less than 100 in present day (assuming he became a sensei before he even turned 30). While still teaching martial arts even at insanely old ages is not impossible (IP Chun, who is IP man's son will turn 100 next month and is still teaching wing chun) fighting with full ferocity certainly is. IP chun may be still alive but he looks like he would have to be rushed to the emergency room if you were to accidentally bump into him. With that in mind unless Kim sun Yung has discovered the fountain of youth or is supernatural I don't see him fighting in the sekai taikai. Either way season 6 will be released in a month so I guess we should wait to find out
While it is (admittedly) silly to imagine Kim Sun-Yung fighting as a centenarian, I kind of always assumed that he lived a very spartan lifestyle and didn’t overindulge in too many unhealthy habits.
And I would love to see a flashback of Sato having a confrontation with Kim Sun-Yung. Not only would it amp up his (Kim’s) hatred for Chozen and Miyagi-Do, but it be awesome to finally see in an actual fight.
Kim Sun Yung may be a harmless and gentle senior citizen most of the time. But when Kim Da Eun whispers the magic TRIGGER WORD into his ears, her sweet grandfather immediately goes into BEAST MODE. 😂😂
Maybe Master Kim will be inside a giant antimantium robot samurai with huge fists like that one Wolverine movie?

In Master Kim's appearance in season 5, he looked like he was about 70 years old at the time, and that was around 1980 because Kreese talked to Silver about his student Johnny. So, you add 70 plus 40 years and you get 110 years old for Master Kim. Unless he is some kind of wizard or sorcerer, he is dead and buried.
Nah maybe 60 at the most. He's alive and around 100.

I love how the rivalry of Uncle Sato and Master Kim is essentially the inverse of the dynamic that we know of Mr Miyagi and Uncle Sato
I believe that it really has something to do with the teachings they pass on. Mr Miyagi and Uncle Sato represent two sides of the same coin of Miyagi-Do but with the addition of Kim Sun-yung, Sato's teachings are more effective because we learned from Chozen that defense comes in many forms.
This is what I love about Sato, he kept training Chozen for the last 30 years and by the time Daniel returned to Okinawa, Chozen was already leagues ahead.
How is it possible that Kim Sun Yung is still alive? He may appear in flashbacks but surely it might be a descendant and Kim Da Eun who will be the new antagonists.
He is still alive by virtue of not dying. It is the Miyagiverse
I don't think it's ever established how old Kim is in the 1980 flashback. He could be as young as 40, meaning he could definitely still be alive in present day

Imagine if me. Miyagi was still alive and master Kim being there. That would be such an amazing fight to see
First i was very sceptical, but not so much anymore after doing some research. Only Fandom states: Status: Deceased. All other pages say nothing about him being death for sure. The character list in Wiki states "...was a master of Tang Soo Do", but this could also mean he isnt an active instructor (master, teacher) anymore.
The only page who states definately he is gone is Fandom, and over the years i saw countless error s on Fandom, since its mostly written by fans.
About the age: As you pointed out correctly in the past when we had a little chat about ages and numbers, ages cante be taken for granit. Some times Daniel and Johnny were both born 1966, then 1967, then 1968. We only know for sure Johnny is four months older, born in August, while Daniel is born in December.
The flashbacks from Kreese and Silver in Korea stated 1980. We guessed Daeun was maybe around 5 during that time, means she was born around 1975. This would mean she is 43/44 in 2019.
Now a little calculation: I am currently 41 and my grandmom is 94.
I am sure you maybe heard about it WP, but people in Asia, mostly Japan but also Korea, usually usually getting older as we. They simply live more healthy, they dont eat so much fast food but more fish etc..
So its absolut possible Daeun is 43/44 when her grandpa will be around 97/98 or so, and i saw reports from people in Asia who are still very fit and healthy at such an age.
So your scenario is definately possible and cant be counted out (what many ppl do). It is absolute possible that a 43/44 yrs old person has a grandpa/mother which his 96/97.

Nah, it's ridiculous to have a guy over a hundred years old to be able to fight. They can't even do that for Kreese, they had to use the younger actor for the prison fight.
Honestly It's not that big of a stretch that Kim Sun Yung could still be alive.
Let's say he's 40 in the clip from 1980. That would make him in his early 80s now. Its definitely possible he was a young grandfather.

Only something in general (not for WP, just in general, maybe the one or the other likes to know it): If you spell the names of the two Kim's according to official romanizations rules of Korea, the "Revised Romanization of Korean" and "McCune-Reischauer", its Kim Daeun and Kim Sunyung. There are two ways:
Sun-yung (allowed a hyphen to distinguish the two syllables, but dont capitalze the y)
Sunyung (recommended)
The CK writers seem to be unaware of it but its not a problem, there also many things i dont know. Daeun and Sunyung are their given names, they dont have middle names (Da Eun and Sun Yung looks like that) or doube-barelled given names (Da-Eun and Sun-Yung look like that).
This method "Kim Sun-Yung" and "Kim Da-Eun" was done 50 or 100 years ago, but not today anymore since it only leads to confusions in the west.
You can see it on the actor who plays Sunyung. C S Lee's full name is Charles Seunghee Lee, and not Charles Seung-Hee Lee.
You can also see it in this korean pop K-Pop scene, most of them spell their given name together (like Jimin, not Ji-Min, etc..), and the world headquarter of Taekwondo, the TDK legends have golden plaques there, and they are spelled like Choi Honghi (not Hong-Hi).

Speaking of flashbacks, Daniel, Johnny, Chozen, Silver, Mike, Miguel and Kim-Sun-Yung himself are flashbacks I want to see in the final season and I definitely want to see his rivalry with Sato in the flashbacks. More flashbacks of Johnny when he was a little kid, before and after he started to train at Cobra Kai, and the same for Daniel since we know little about his childhood before Karate Kid except his father passed away when he was really young, and flashbacks of the Vietnam War from Silver so that we can his perspective of it and his early childhood, and the same for all of the other characters I mentioned and of course flashbacks of the origins of the way of the fist and of his rivalry with Sato.
I kind of wanted a flashback of a young Mike Barnes in S5. (I’ve always assumed that something happened during his childhood that turned him into the vicious thug that we saw in KKIII.)
And I always thought it would be neat if we got a flashback to where / how the Quicksilver method originated.

That’d be SO great !! But I can’t think of anybody who has the affable charisma of Pat Morita. Maybe there is an actor out there somewhere we’ve never seen before who could do it. I see a paradox though: this’d be a YOUNG Miyagi, but an essential part of the Miyagi character is his Big wisdom that comes from a complicated past that he’s never been eager to tell about. Any Miyagi that’d be shown as existing before all those life-lessons and consequent wisdom wouldn’t be the character we know as Mr. Miyagi. Y’all see the conundrum, right ?

Actually season 6 will start a little after season 5 ended so it will take place in 2019-2020. Now as for Kim's age we know that he was already a sensei and was training American troops during the Korean war. The Korean war lasted between 1950 and 1953. So if he was 30 at that point he would be 100 in s6. Even if he was charismatic and became a sensei at only 25 and a little before the war started he would still be 95 in present day. With that in mind unless he is a wizard or has discovered the fountain of youth him still fighting with full ferocity is biologically impossible
They are probably going to show kim sun-yung in flashbacks and thats all
It would be awesome if Kim Sun Yung won the sensei part of the Sekai Taikai, and Cobra Kai is brought back to life.
This is the grand finale of the series. The good guys will obviously win. Every time the bad ones win it is a very temporary victory. As for who will fight in the sensei division I don't think it will be kim sun yung himself. It could be his son (we know him and da eun but nothing has been said about the in between generation) or a ridiculously overpowered version of kreese. Cobra kai remains a drama comedy series if a 100 year old man defeated everyone it would be a sci fi one

It Kim-Sun Yung is the embodiment of the way of the fist style especially no mercy, it is safe to assume he would not hesitate to kill his enemies no matter how small or insignificant they are. For instance if Johnny or one of the teens such as Robby tried fighting him, he would fight to kill them no matter how much stronger he is than they are.

WATCHPARTY: Awesome theory. It's unreal because I was just thinking that Master Kim might still be alive the other day. I'm 50/50 though on whether or not he would appear in the present especially if he & Sato fought because all know how fights in Okinawa end: Death. I actually made a theory that Sato & Kim had a fight to the death of their own that Sato won & Master Kim well....DIDN'T & we might get this fight through a flashback of either Chozen or Sensei Kim who were witnesses to the event. What do you think?

@@watchparty1 What I mean by "MIGHT" I mean that while him appearing in the present would be great, I just don't know about him appearing to fight because it would like there's way too many sensei's including the WAY OF THE FISTS. It's possible instead we could get a scene sort of similar to the scene that we got in KK2 between Miyagi, Sato, & his father, but between Kreese, Sensei Kim, & Master Kim in South Korea due to Kreese well as we all know is not exactly being welcome in the states anymore & it might be Master Kim that convinces Kreese to participate & allow Cobra Kai in the Seiki Teiki because we don't know if Kreese is even going to want to participate in the Seiki Teiki much less Cobra Kai even if the tournament is in a state where Kreese can't get arrested in.
There is no way dude is alive that long. He will appear in flashbacks to set the story.

I have no idea how they can make this work. Kim Sun Yung would have to be close to 100 now, and likely even older, if he taught Turner during the war in Korea. It will be a hard sell.
I think Mr. Miyagi would would Kim Sun-Yung. But I think Kim Sun-Yung would have been the bigger threat and the only one.Who could go Toe To Toe with Mr. Miyagi.

Miguel or Robby vs. Some World Class Korean student from Kim's Doyang (who will be the main teen antagonist of the season)
For the girls division, Idk, I think Sam will win. The Sekai Taikai will be the same as All-valley with Boys division, Girls division, and Skills competition, and in the end, Miyagi Fang wins overall and beats Kim's Doyang (Cobra Kai) once and for all.
I have a theory that since American students quit and Silver is out of Cobra Kai, Kim's Doyang will compete under the name Cobra Kai in the tournament, and will be coached by Da-eun and her senseis and maybe Kreese.
Fr they already fought and maked up in season 5 there would be no logical reason to fight each other because they are fighting on the same team and this isn’t the All Valley so they can’t fight each other even if they wanted too

If Cobra Kai was filmed in the early 80s, korean Master Hwang, In-shik would have been the best guy to portray Kim Sun-yung. Inshik fought against Bruce Lee in "Way/Return of the Dragon" in 1972, and against Jackie Chan in "Young Master" from 1980.

WATCHPARTY: You must be rubbing off on me because a possible idea just came into my head could maybe be pulling trick over us let me know what you: I love the idea of us getting to explore Master Kim in both the past & present and while I am on board with him being a live in the present, what if the Master Kim that we meet in the present isn’t the Master Kim that we have heard about & meet in the Flashbacks, but his son: Master Kim?

@@watchparty1 Yeah because if Sensei Kim is Master Kim’s granddaughter that means that he would have had to have a child and whoever that child is could essentially be Master Kim in the present timeline. I got this thought from a livestream that COBRA KAI NATION did today, someone mentioned him maybe having a son and maybe he turned away from his father’s teachings but I started thinking that what if he didn’t & Master Kim being in the present could be a teasing trick from creators that Master Kim is in the present, but it’s his son and not the OG Master himself?!

A teen girl moves from Tokyo to New York City due to her mother’s work shift, but when she gets bullied in her new enviornment, she gets help from a retired sensei. This is a complete retelling of the original Karate Kid with some refreshing elements to it and it will fix major mistakes of the 2010 version (I thought that reboot was awful). There will be no connection to the Karate Kid/Cobra Kai.
Kick-Ass 3 (2025). Update
Synopsis
After the events of Kick-Ass 2, Dave Lizewski continues to fight crime now more experienced and wearing a more tasty suit, while Mindy Macready decided to leave town and on her journey arrived in All Valley California. Mindy decides to stay in the valley to lead a more peaceful life and during her stay there she realizes everything that happens between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do. Some Time later, Dave Lizewski decides to take a vacation and decides to go to All Valley to reunite with his great friend. When Dave arrives, he also finds out the Dojo war and they both decide to help, being new allies on the Miyago-Do side. But when he left the City, Chris D'amico has now fully recovered and he brings his uncle Ralph D'amico who now after escaping for prison becomes the new crime boss, being together they decide to go in search of Kick-Ass and Hitgirl to finish them off at once and then finish off all the heroes influenced by Kick-Ass in order to control the country. Will Kick-Ass and Hitgirl be able to deal with all these problems?

Mr. Han and Dre Parker return for a second part. Both go on a trip to the United States and arrive at the valley in California. Realizing everything that is happening with the dojo war between Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai, both Dre and Mr. Han will be the new aliates for Daniel and Johnny.

CS Lee will portray Kim Sun Yung, the grandfather of Kim Da Eun. Confusion may persist despite this clarification.
I think it sounds epic and awesome as hell :-) Now, whether a 100 year old man would actually FIGHT in the Sekai Taikai, that I have no idea about. But if he does, I have no doubt the Big-3 are clever enough to write/execute things in such a way, that you just eat it up (they’re good at it!)
“Yeah, but still! Seems lame if a 100 year old man FIGHTS the others!?”. Again, not necessarily. It’s all about being smart about it.. COULD there maybe be a vague mystical, and perhaps an almost “magical” element to this whole thing? I’m talking in a subtle way. Something that might have a 100 year old man possessing the health of a badass 60 year old (Evil Miyagi-style)? I mean, why not? I don’t think all too many knows that in real life, within monastery walls, monks have been said to achieve such high levels of meditation, that they were actually able to levitate a bit from above the ground. Laugh if you want, but there’s way more mystical things going on in this world, than most will ever realize (or even care to try and seek out) Did ya’ll know, that in real life we have both men and gal’s playing tennis, whom are 100-105 years old??? Yes, that’s absolutely true!
Within the Karate Kid universe it self, there’s always been subtle mystical elements at play (and I welcome them) Never forget, that this is also the same universe where an old man healed a broken leg, with the touch of his clapping hands, lol. He also did that to Angels broken wing in The Next Karate Kid. In that same movie, Mr. Miyagi also caught an ARROW with his bare hand, right before it would’ve rammed into his heart, at a speed of about 170 mph.. Oh, and let’s not forget about Mr. Miyagi’s mystical GREEN powder in KK3, that healed all of Daniel’s wounds overnight.. I mean, come on people :-) (I never understood why Daniel didn’t offer to rub some of that stuff on Miguels back, haha!) Who’s really to say what kind of mystical things that MIGHT have someone like Kim Sun-Yung still be at large, at an age of 100??? (He also might be a BIT younger) But for some reason that I’m sure the Big-3 could write brilliantly, maybe he’s been in hiding… waiting… for the right moment to emerge… “And that moment is now” (if you know, you know) What could keep him on his feet and powerful? Honestly, within the Karate Kid universe, and heck, even just looking at some people in real life, it wouldn’t be that_hard to come up with something cool for Sun-Yung in Season 6 :-) He’d be this frightening, mystical, Mortal Kombat Shang-Tsung-type of the Karate Kid world! ;-) It’s all about writing and execution - and being clever about it! It can be done.

Master Kim being alive doesn’t make any sense. In season 5, silver tells Kim Da Eun that they’re fighting for her grandfather’s legacy. That doesn’t make sense if he’s still alive

I disagree; we really do not know what the philosophy of Kim Sun Yung truly is; Silver and Kreese taught and lived by “no mercy” due to their experience in Vietnam.
I believe Master Kim’s philosophy was to win at all costs; albeit striking first and hard. If you remember from the very first film, when Daniel visits Cobra Kai for the first time, Kreese asked his class what they are there to learn or something to that degree ; the class answered “the way to defend sir”.
As a someone who has trained martial arts and self defense, the Cobra Kai philosophy is not much different than Krav Maga. The only difference is, like Miyagido, use fighting as a last resort but like what he said in The Next Karate Kid, “if you must fight, win.” In Krav Maga you do what what you can to injure your attacker and you don’t wait, you strike first if you have the opportunity.
This win at all costs does not work in a tournament and no one should cheat to win and that I can see Master Kim teaching.
I don’t think Master Kim will be fighting , he may be hosting or spectating but that would be like putting George Forman against Anthony Joshua today. Now that doesn’t mean that men of a certain age can not still kick ass, my Krav Maga instructor is in his 60’s and I wouldn’t mess with him but if he was like 90, that may be a different story; more like Rocky 1 lol.
You may want to rewatch the first movie. They don't answer "The way to defend, sir." They say "The way of the fist, sir." Otherwise he is described as the "Anti-Miyagi."
